FIRE caused a reported $100,000 damage to the abandoned Ward 9 at the former Royal Derwent Hospital yesterday morning. Contrary to other media reports, the fire was not at Willow Court. The New Norfolk Fire Brigade responded at about 1.30am and was still at the scene when a fire was reported at the historic Rainbow Cottages in George St just before 3am. Damage was limited to the kitchen of one of the conjoined cottages. Both fires were believed to have been deliberately lit. The

I heard the demolition on the wards at royal derwent had been ordered to cease by the council, its also interesting that rainbow cottage (heritage listed) is the only thing standing in the way of a nice big vacant block. why would someone getting thier jollys lighting fires, bypass the derilict building between ward 9 and rainbow cottage
