COMMUNITY ownership of the Willow Court historic site hangs in the balance, with the Derwent Valley Council set to debate a proposed return of the property to the State Government. Councillor Jim Elliott has submitted a motion on notice for this week's council meeting and will hope to convince his eight colleagues to formalise what appears to have become an unofficial policy in recent weeks.
This week's council meeting will be held on Thursday evening at the Molesworth Hall, starting with a community forum at 5.45pm followed by the formal meeting at 6.30pm. All welcome.
I really think the types of decisions needs to be voted on by rate payers
ReplyDeleteWell I hope sensible heads prevail and do not fall in with one single councillors thoughts. The councillors have really been doing the hard yards recently and I hope they stick to their forward looking plans, retain ownership of the site and work WITH the new state government. There are a couple of long term councillors who shouldn't have their efforts cast aside because others are too lazy to see a project highly beneficial to the DV community through.
ReplyDeleteweather its handed back to state govt - something needs to be done NOW to protect it from further neglect and vandalism. Otherwise it will be irrelevant who has control. We are seriously on the verge of losing an important part of Australian hetitage and history. Every night more damage is done, and if things keep going the way they are - my biggest fear is not relinquishing control back to the state govt - it is that neglect, fires and blatant vandalism will render the entire site unsafe and irrepairable.
