Back-to-school help from NILS

TASMANIA'S community lending service, the NILS Network, helps parents access money to pay for school uniforms, computers and school trips through no-interest, no-fee loans of up to $1200. NILS is a not-for-profit organisation supported by the State Government, Aurora Energy and the Federal Group. No credit check is required, you simply need to:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a Health Care or Pension Card, and
  • Have stable residency (exceptions can be made in cases such as domestic violence)

Recipients repay their loans using Centrepay at a fortnightly rate of $3 per $100 of the amount borrowed. Other things that can be purchased with a NILS loan include:
  • Household essentials such as whitegoods, some furniture and heaters
  • Medical and dental services
  • Car maintenance (registration, tyres and repair)
NILS aims to improve the quality of life of those on a low income by providing no-interest loans of $300 to $1200. For more information about how NILS could help, visit www.nilstasmania.org.au or phone 1300 301 650 for an information pack.
