Federal funds for Willow Court

A NEW grant of nearly $350,000 from the Federal Government will help fund the upgrading of the electricity supply at Willow Court. Heritage Minister Tony Burke this week announced the provision of nearly $10 million to heritage projects around Australia - including $346,136.36 going to Willow Court. The Derwent Valley Council will provide matching funding.

The Willow Court project is called "Bringing Light to the Past" and will involve the installation of a new electricity supply and a start to conservation projects at Willow Court and nearby Bronte House. The 12-month project is aimed at stabilising the two buildings and making them safe for visitors.

Mr Burke said "Your Community Heritage" was a new and practical approach to heritage conservation that recognises our history is not just about big places on the World and National Heritage Lists. "The projects will foster pride in communities across Australia by helping them record, protect and showcase their important heritage," he said. “Our heritage is fundamental to our national identity and informs us about where we have come from and who we are. So many of the stories of Australia reside within our precious heritage sites,” he said.
