This follows several weeks of closure due to the bushfire at Mt Cullen near Strathgordon. The need for those areas to remain closed to visitors was questioned at a public meeting in Maydena on Monday night.
Gordon River Rd from Maydena has now been re-opened as far as the junction with Scotts Peak Rd. All roads beyond that point remained closed to all but essential services. Restricted access is being allowed to Scotts Peak Rd in essential cases, under escort by emergency services.
For information on current road closures, please visit the Tasmania Police website: http://www.police.tas.gov.au/community-alerts/
Walking tracks at Mt Wedge, Sentinel Range and Mt Anne Range remain closed. The Wedge River, Edgar and Huon campgrounds remain closed. Adamsfield Conservation Area also remains closed.
TFS and PWS urge people to remain informed as there are areas of fire that continue to burn and conditions can change.
Fire activity remains low with continuing favourable weather conditions. Efforts are continuing to focus on the Eastern fire boundary south of Gordon River Rd with remote area teams. Thirtytwo active fire crew members were working on the fire today. The Tasmania Fire Service says crews continue to make good progress with the consolidation of containment lines around the fire boundary.
