CENTURIES from Gretna’s Glenn Blackwell, Molesworth’s Brad Coppleman, Bushy Park’s Shaun Fenton and a seven-wicket haul from Molesworth’s Josh Ransley was the order of the day for the final round of the Southern Cricket Association at the weekend.
FIRST GRADE
New Norfolk I recorded its sixth win in a row when it defeated Derwent by seven wickets at North Warrane. Jason Rigby top-scored with 33 not out (five fours) and Harry Booth made 26 (three fours). With the ball for the Red Caps, all the bowlers bar one took two wickets with Seb Wishart with the excellent figures of 2-4 off 7 overs including four maidens. Josh Walsh, promoted from fourth grade, impressed with the white ball taking 2-22 off 7.

SECOND GRADE
In a very good display, Molesworth I secured top spot on the ladder with an 80-run win over Sorell at Sorell. This was due to the excellent batting by Brad Coppleman who hit his first century for the season, making 106 which included ten fours and five sixes in the teams total of 9/256 off 50 overs. Jamie Adams gave great support with a fine 68 (six fours, one six) with the pair putting on a superb 137-run stand. In another highlight Josh Ransley sent down 10 overs to capture a season high 7 for 19. Ransley’s outstanding spell saw him take four of the top five batsman and to top things off, Brad Coppleman added to his century with 1 for just 12 runs off 8 overs with the ball. A very good performance from Molesworth.
Gretna I went down to the Knights in a close affair at Gretna. The home side batted first and thanks to an excellent century by opener and keeper Glenn Blackwell, Gretna was able to post the very good score of 6/253 off its 50 overs. Blackwell’s 121 was a great knock and included thirteen fours and one six and he put on a terrific 173-run partnership with brother-in-law Ben Rainbird who made 59 (two fours, one six). These two have opened the batting together five times this season for a total of 608 runs and of those five times they have made four hundred plus runstands together. Not a bad effort fellas. Mathew Burns was the next-best scorer with 34 (five fours). In reply the Knights pushed hard and snuck over the line with just two balls and one wicket remaining. Craig Cunningham sent down his spinners to take 3-41 (6). Peter Jelkic 2-39 (10) and Darren Lennox 2/57 (7.4). It was a hard loss for Gretna, as they need the win plus bonus point to stay in the top four, but it’s wasn’t to be and it’s now curtains for them.

FOURTH GRADE
In close and high-scoring match between Bushy Park and New Norfolk at Bushy Park, the home side snuck over the line by just one wicket. New Norfolk won the toss and elected to bat and made the good score of 10/261 off 48.5 overs and in reply Bushy Park chased down the runs with just nine balls remaining to finish 9/264. The hero for Bushy Park was its captain Shaun Fenton who was the mainstay for the innings, marking an excellent 106. Fenton came in with the score at 2/35 and was dismissed when the score was 5/188. He put on a 109-run stand with Dylan Grant 20 runs. Fenton now has 505 runs from the 50-over matches. Opener Troy Smith made 24 and Ben Trifffett 20. With the ball for New Norfolk, Jamie Hill the best of the bowlers with 2-28 off 10 overs. With the bat, opener Glen Williams made his highest score for the season with a well put together 75. Williams’ innings included seven fours. Down the order Aaron Drew made 46 also hitting seven fours. Josh Rowlands made 31 (one four). For Bushy Park with the ball, Ben Triffett was the shining light snaring 3-4 off 1.5 overs in a good spell. This must have been a great match to watch and if this is anything to go by, there is some great finals cricket ahead.
Gretna II had a good 83 run win over St Virgil’s at St Virgil’s. Gretna had first dig and made 10/187 off 49.2 overs. For the second week in a row, Jordan Hastie showed great form with the bat making 47, hitting five fours and one six. Daniel Browning at number nine made 31no while Brian Smith made 27. In reply the home side was bowled out for 104 off 35.1 overs. Daniel Browning had a good game and took 4-25 (10). Jackson Ackerly took 2-24 (10) and Jake Campbell 2-24 (6.1) while Zac Crosswell took 1-6 (3). Although Gretna II won its past three matches they still miss the finals.
Congratulations to Gretna II captain Tom Allcock who played his 150th club game on Saturday.
Bothwell I totally outplayed second-placed Bagdad. Batting first, the Bucks piled on the runs making the huge total of 9/316 off 50 overs. In reply, Bagdad was bowled out for 126 off 25.3 overs. No other details were available at the time of writing.

SIXTH GRADE
Molesworth II was defeated by Richmond/Cambridge by 32 runs at Richmond. The home side batted first making 10/161 off 29.3 overs and in reply Molesworth was bowled out for 129 in 28.2 overs. Openers Brad Jarvis 30 (four fours) and Jayden Wilton 30 (five fours, one six) top-scored, while Karl Mallinson was next with 14. With the ball, Brad Jarvis had a good day taking 4-43 (8). Jake Sorrenson 3-20 (6) did well. Colby Evans took 2-49 (5) and Liam Triffitt 1-3 (0.3).

New Norfolk went down to the Knights at Boyer Oval by just 15 runs. The visitors had first knock making 10/139 off 49.3 overs. In reply the Red Caps couldn’t quite get there and were dismissed for 124 off 39.3 overs. Stuart Muir top-scored with 29 (three fours, one six) and Aaron Triffitt was next best with 20 (one four). With the ball David Mitchelmore did very well taking 4-18 off his 10 overs. Mitch Rice was next best with 2-22 (10).
