Crash closes highway

POLICE advise that the Lyell Hwy at Lawitta is closed in both directions due to a two-vehicle crash. Please take care in the area and seek an alternative route such as Glenora Rd or Black Hills Rd.

12.30PM UPDATE: One driver has been transported to hospital in a critical condition. Tow trucks have been called to the scene but at this stage the highway remains closed at Lawitta.

1.30PM UPDATE: The road is now open to all traffic.

3.30PM UPDATE: Sadly the Lawitta crash has resulted in a fatality. Police say an 89-year-old man from Hayes died in hospital from his injuries. A 76-year-old man from Maydena is receiving treatment for leg injuries. Police say they will issue a statement later today. Condolences to all involved.
