Severe Weather Warning

for DAMAGING WINDS

For people in the Upper Derwent Valley, King Island, Western, South East, East Coast, Central Plateau, Midlands and parts of North East, North West Coast and Central North Forecast Districts.

DAMAGING WINDS DURING MONDAY

Weather Situation: A cold front will weaken near the west of Tasmania during Monday while a low and another cold front will approach the northwest Monday evening, as a ridge lies over the Tasman Sea, directing a strong northwesterly airstream over Tasmania.

DAMAGING WINDS averaging 60 km/h with peak gusts of mainly 80 to 90 km/h but locally to 100 km/h are possible over parts of western, southern, eastern and inland Tasmania during Monday morning and afternoon. Gusts in excess of 100 km/h are possible over elevated terrain.
Locations which may be affected include Swansea, Strahan, New Norfolk, Hobart, Geeveston and Dover.

The State Emergency Service advises that people should:
* Supervise children closely.
* Check that family and neighbours are aware of warnings.
* Manage pets and livestock.
* Secure outdoor items including furniture and play equipment.
* Be prepared in case of power outages.
* Beware of damaged trees and power lines and take care when driving. 
* Listen to ABC Radio or check www.ses.tas.gov.au for further advice.
* For emergency assistance contact the SES on 132500.
The next Severe Weather Warning  will be issued by 5am Monday.
