FIRST GRADE: Thanks to a excellent all-round effort from New Norfolk I captain Matthew Bowden, the Red Caps recorded their second T20 victory when they demolished Montagu Bay by 104 runs on Saturday. Bowden went on a run spree making 74 not out from 36 deliveries, hitting seven 4s and four 6s in what was a great captain's knock. The Red Caps registered the huge total of 3/198 from their 20 overs. Cody Neads gave great support to his captain, making 43 from 23 (four 4s, two 6s). The pair put on a great partnership of 108. Opener Seb Wishart made 27 from 28 (three 4s) and Blake Kemmler remained 3no. In reply, the Sharks were no match for the home side and were bowled out for 94 off 18.2 overs. This was due to very tight bowling from all the New Norfolk bowlers, in particular the excellent bowling from - yes you guessed it - Matthew Bowden! The allrounder sent down four overs capturing 3-11 to snare three of the top four batsmen. Richard Graham was also amongst, it taking 3-11 from 3.2 in a big win for the home side.
SECOND GRADE: Playing at Tynwald Park, New Norfolk II went down to St Anne's by 17 runs. The Crows, batting first, made 9/133 off 20 overs and in reply the Red Caps were dismissed for 116 off 19.2 overs. Stewart Rice at number five didn’t disappoint, making 49 from 24 with 44 coming in boundaries, hitting five 4s and four 6s. New player and opener Shaun Fenton made 30 from 25 (three 4, two 6s). With the ball, Jake Sorrenson bowled very well, sending down four overs, taking 3-13 with two maidens. In a great all-round effort, the experienced Stewart Rice was at his measly best, taking 2 for just 6 runs from his four overs.
In a close one at Wentworth Park, Molesworth I went down to Derwent by three wickets. Batting first, the visitors made 7/138 off 20 overs. In reply, Derwent just got the runs with four balls to spare, finishing 7/139 (19.2). Captain Jamie Adams top-scored with 35 from 34 (two 4s, three 6s). Opener Brayden Hodge 33 (28) (four 4s, two 6s) and Daniel Coppleman 23 from 11 (four 4s, one 6). With the ball, Kye Tomkinson was the main wicket taker with 2-23 (3). Jeremy Nichols was 1-17 (4) and there were three runouts.
In the match at Ogilvie High School, Gretna I was outclassed by the Marquis Tigers by 66 runs. Having first dig, the home side hit up the big score of 0/171 from its 20 overs. In reply, Gretna finished 9/105 from its 20. Ben Rainbird top-scored with the bat, making 34 from 25 (four 4s, two 6s), while Jackson Ackerly made 21 (20). Congratulations to Craig Cunningham on playing his 250th club match for Gretna on Saturday and also to Ben Rainbird on playing his 300th match for Gretna I.
FOURTH GRADE: Bothwell I made it three wins from as many matches when it defeated Campania by five wickets at Bothwell. In a reduced 17-over match, the visitors made 2/146 from the 17 overs. In reply, the Bucks chased down the target with just four balls to spare. Opener Nathan Eyles made a blistering 67 from just 30 balls which included a high of 10 4s and two 6s. Matthew Eyles made a quickfire 24 from 20, while Josh Eyles remained 18 from 16 (two 4s, one 6). Blake Eyles was the best of the bowlers taking 1-16 (2).
FIFTH GRADE: Gretna II made it three wins in a row, defeating the Knights in a close one by 11 runs at the Collinsvale Oval. Batting first, the visitors knocked up 9/180 from their 20 overs, with opener Mathew Burns top-scoring with a fine 69, (eight 4s and five 6s). Burns put on 92 with captain Ross Langford 25 runs. Zac Wheeler made a very handy 54 for his team at number six, hitting eight 4s and two 6s that really helped get to the big score. In reply, the Knights were bowled out for 169 off 19.5 overs. Opening bowler Jake Campbell snared a hat-trick in his great spell, finishing with 4-28 from 3.5 overs. Congratulations Jake. Josh Whitford kept up his great form with the ball, taking 3-22 (4). Congratulations to Bailey Wheeler who played his first senior match for Gretna on Saturday, Bailey is the 314th player since 1977/78. He made two runs and took one catch.
New Norfolk III recorded its first win of the T20 matches, when it defeated St Anne's by six wickets at Tynwald Park. Batting first, the visitors made 5/143 from their 20 overs and in reply the Red Caps chased down the target from 18.1 overs, finishing 4/144. Opening batsman Adrian Eiszele turned his fortunes around from last week and made an excellent 67 not out from 48 deliveries. Eiszele creamed seven 4s and four 6s in his unbeaten knock and put on a handy 39-run stand with fellow opener and captain Nathan Heron who made 26 from 17 deliveries, hitting two 4s and two 6s. Christopher Hall remained 12no from four deliveries with a 4 and a 6. Best with the ball for New Norfolk was Brad Kemmler who took 2-33 from 4 overs.
SEVENTH GRADE: In the match at Bothwell, the rain had the final say on the match when it was washed out part way through. Molesworth had first knock and made 5/154 off 19 overs. Sam Triffitt made a fine 66 from 57 deliveries, hitting six 4s and a 6. Quick singles were a highlight of his innings. John Fowle made 33 from 23 with six 4 while Jack Evans made 22 (15). Mark Pearce was the best of the Bucks' bowlers, taking 2-36 (4). In reply, before the rain stopped play, Bothwell was 4/76 off 8 overs. Opener Mark Pearce had a good day and made 28 not out from 20 balls, hitting two 4s. Andrew Rolls made 17 from 10 with two 4s. Jack Evans with 2-19 from 2 was the main wicket taker for the visitors.
