Young driver arrested at New Norfolk

POLICE arrested a young driver at New Norfolk in the early hours of this morning after an alleged "hooning" incident in the town. A police spokesman said a gold-coloured Ford Ranger vehicle had been seen hooning in Humphrey St ar around 2.30am today.

"Police attempted to intercept the vehicle however, it failed to stop and drove off at speed," the radio dispatch spokesman said. "An investigation was conducted by police and as a result a 17-year-old male from New Norfolk was arrested at a New Norfolk residence a short time later. The driver submitted to a breath analysis and returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.061."

Police said the driver would face charges including evading police and exceeding 0.05. "Anyone who witnesses dangerous driving or hooning is encouraged to contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or information can be provided anonymously by calling Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or online at crimestopperstas.com.au," the spokesman said.

In a separate incident, a car is reported to have rolled over in an incident on Collins Cap Rd at Molesworth this afternoon. Police, ambulance, Molesworth Fire Brigade and the Derwent Valley SES responded. No further information is available.
