It's a wrap for sports show

| Shawry and Gleeso behind the microphone. |
"Gleeso and I would really like to thank all of our loyal listeners, even the most loyal who live interstate or who have even listened while being overseas - we thank you all," Ben Shaw said in a Facebook post this morning. "It has been a great experience and one that has created some great memories and also given us the chance to do things we normally wouldn't have been able to," he said.
Ben thanked all the contributors who had sent in results and information, supplied questions for the quiz, or called in to answer the quiz. "You all have been amazing!" he said.
"To all the people who gave us their time to come in and do interviews, we really do appreciate and it really added something extra to the show, and we hope you enjoyed it too," Ben said. "Tomorrow you will be listening to 'Shawry & Gleeso on 98.9 TYYYYGAA FM' for the last time."
Wade echoed Ben's comments and thanked everyone who had contributed in any way. "It's not until now that we have realised how many listeners we had!" he said. "In the last few weeks many people have said to us how they will miss the show, one listener even said it how he always sat out in his shed ever Saturday morning and enjoyed our show. It is sad to say we are hanging up our microphones, but with many other commitments we have over the years, it's now family time for us. We haven't said we won't be back as over time I'm sure we will miss it.
"My last 'thank you' goes to Ben Shaw for coming up with the idea then asking me to join him. Ben was instrumental in getting the show to air for the first time. It's been a great ride. Also a special mention goes to my wife Chloe and children Brodie, Lucy and Cooper who have been my number one fans!"
Tune in for the final Derwent Valley Weekend Sports Wrap on 98.9 Tyga FM tomorrow from 8-9am.
- Everyone who has contributed sports results and news to the Weekend Sports Wrap is welcome to send the same to newnorfolknews@gmail.com for publication on the New Norfolk News.

How Gretna won the day

Gretna won the toss and elected to bat, making a competitive total of 169. Openers Jordan Hastie (11) and Bruce Emery (43 with four fours) put on 48, getting their team off to a good start. While Gretna lost some quick wickets, all-rounder Matthew Eyles batted well and made a fine 52 with six fours to boost the total. Dylan Pearce also hung around for a handy 15.
In reply DOSA made very slow work of it, which was due to the great fielding and bowling by the Gretna players. Player of the match Peter Jelkic bowled extremely well, taking 4-22 as did Matthew Eyles with 2-25. Adam Browning bowled tightly 2-32. When DOSA was 8 for 153 and needing 17 off eight balls, the match could of gone either way until Brock Nichols took two wickets in a row and Gretna was the winner.
The fielding was far the best seen in a grand final for some time and mention must go to Jordan Hastie for his two great catches. The first was a real team-lifter. It was a great scene at Cadbury No. 1 on Saturday and congratulations go to Gretna II captain Joey Eyles and his team for a job well done.
A special mention must go to DOSA captain Tom Curtain for his speech after the match. He showed great respect to Gretna after his team's loss and this was noted by all present. Well done to Gretna for its first premiership in the SCA and first flag since 1999/2000 when it defeated Molesworth I in the DVCA under the captaincy of Leigh Bygrave.

With the bat it was run machine Stewart Rice's 103 that gave New Norfolk the start it needed. Rice clubbed and incredible 13 sixes and three fours for a total of 90 runs from boundaries. He also put on a 91-run stand with Dave Maddox who also did well making 64. Opener Jake King made 41 and New Norfolk ended with 7 for 284 off their 50 overs. Nathan Eiszele tried hard with the ball for Molesworth, taking 3-34 to be the best with the ball.
In reply Molesworth was never in the hunt and was bowled out for 118, having been 6 for 56 at one stage. The damage was done by the Red Caps frontline bowlers Josh Rowlands 4-32 and Josh Dykes 4-45 who steamrolled the Molesworth batsmen with little fuss. Nathan Eiszele was the only batsman to show any resilience, making 35 including five fours and a six. Jake King picked up one wicket as did Stewart Rice who capped off a very rewarding day and was named player of the match.
Well done to New Norfolk I captain Rohan Heron and his team. I'm sure the celebrations lasted quite a few days. I hear there was a good crowd at Tynwald Park on Saturday and the canteen did a good trade. Well done to all involved.
New Norfolk I was the best team all season and has waited for this for quite some time, with their last premiership coming back in the Derwent Valley Cricket Association, defeating Bushy Park in 2001/02 B-Grade grand final. The last A-Grade DVCA premiership for New Norfolk I was in 1998-99 when they defeated Old Beach for their fourth straight premiership. Players from Saturdays win who were playing back then were Stewart Rice, Adrian Eiszele and Ashley Morgan - with all three playing in both grand finals.

Feds confirm feasibilty funding for valley link road
THE Federal Government has confirmed the allocation of $100,000 for a study of the feasibility of upgrading the Plenty Valley Link Rd as a tourist route between the Derwent and Huon Valleys. The Federal Member for Lyons, Eric Hutchinson MHR, said he was delighted that work will soon be under way.
Assistant Infrastructure and Regional Development Minister Jamie Briggs last week said $100,000 would go to the Derwent Valley Council for a study into the benefits of the Plenty Valley Link Road upgrade. Mr Briggs said that the study would be funded from the Tasmanian Jobs and Growth Plan announced during last year’s federal election campaign.
Mr Hutchinson said that this was fantastic news for the communities of the Derwent and Huon Valleys who regard the road as an important piece of infrastructure in their bid to attract more tourists to the region. "The Plenty Road links the two valleys with their many historical and natural attractions and would make an excellent tourist route if it was in better repair," Mr Hutchinson said.
"This project has bilateral support because it will benefit both valley communities. The potential for tourism is enormous. Tourist drawcards within the two valleys include the popular Mt Field National Park, the historic Willow Court precinct, at New Norfolk, the Salmon Ponds at Plenty and the Derwent Valley Railway as well as business enterprises like the Redlands Estate, the Two Metre Tall Brewery and Reid Fruits.
Mr Hutchinson said having the facts on the table about the logistical, social, tourism and employment benefits of upgrading the Plenty road would help all levels of government make an informed decision on whether to go ahead with the project. "Sustainable development and a more competitive state economy rely on appropriately informed and targeted infrastructure investment," Mr Hutchinson said.
The Plenty Valley Link Rd feasibility study is expected to be completed later this year.
