Market day this Saturday

THE Big River Growers Market is running twice a month until the end of October and will be on again this Saturday on the verandah at the Nurses Quarters, Willow Court, New Norfolk.

Among the offerings are ready-to-eat Thai food plus cakes, quiches, slice, jams, sauces, honey and juice. There are also some late season vegetables including carrots, pumpkins, potatoes and silverbeet.

There is no bread this month due to Redlands being closed for July.

ANY women and girls aged 16 or over who are interested in playing in a New Norfolk women’s soccer team are invited to attend informal training sessions at Tynwald Park on Fridays from 6-7pm. This follows the successful re-establishing of a men's team this season.

Under 7 player Rodney had
his best game on Saturday.

REPORTS from New Norfolk's junior soccer coaches:

Under 6 Red defeated Brighton at Brighton on Friday night. Well done and thank you to Hemi for helping us out and scoring three goals.  Another goal was scored by Jake and there was great teamwork from Noah and Anna.

Under 6 Black defeated Moonah Primary, with good captaincy from James, good sportsmanship from Zack, and a good effort by Lucas, Vincent and Lewis. Goal kickers were Hemi 3 and Shaun 2. Well done boys.

Under 7 Red defeated Moonah Primary with a super effort showing great teamwork. A special mention to Joel for scoring his first goal!

Under 7 Black played Holy Rosary and a fantastic effort was made by both teams. It was such an enjoyable game for the kids. A special mention to Rodney Browning on playing one of his best games yet. The team continues to improve every week. Keep up the awesome work guys.

Under 8 Red played a great game against Dominic Maroon and the rain didn't stop them. Thank you to subs Mikayla and Astrid who showed some fantastic kicking. A great team effort everyone! Our goalie was Jacob White and the goal scorers were J'Khobi and Jack.

Under 8 Black tried hard against a very excited Dominic side. Well done to Mikayla for her hard work in the goals in the second half and thanks to Jack for subbing for us once again. Unfortunately Joshua hurt his leg in the second half and was unable to finish the game. Caitlin, Mia, Astrid, Jacob J and Jess B tried their best with Mikayla and Astrid going on to sub for the Red team in the next game.

Under 9 had a great game against Brighton. Well done to Cruez and Caleb for their goals, and Ella and Luke for some awesome goalie work. Thanks to Tanesha for filling in.

Under 10 took on Dominic Yellow and won 4-2. Our goalies Alex Mc and Alex G did a fantastic job; our defence of Brock, Ostyn and Alex B were amazing and well backed up by Kiara and Luke through the middle. Maddy kicked the first two goals in the first half and she was well backed up in the second half with Jacob and Aidan kicking a goal each. It was the fastest game for the season and everyone played brilliantly. Well done team, very proud of you all!

Under 11 had another great win with the entire team playing their part. Well done all.

Under 14 – match cancelled.

Under 16 played Huon, going down 5-1 after playing what seemed like the longest game in history! New Norfolk was well supported by many Under 14s who made the trip to Huonville to assist.  New Norfolk’s goal came from Brayden.

Seniors Division 4 – match cancelled.

New Norfolk 32.2 (214) defeated Huonville 4.3 (27)
NEW Norfolk built the previous week’s thrashing of second-placed Claremont when it gave a completely dominating display over an extremely disappointing Huonville at Boyer Oval on Saturday. The home side eventually ran out winners by a mammoth 187 points in a one-sided affair.

New Norfolk was not going to give Huonville any chance of getting into the contest and dominated the first term with seven goals to one, with the game looking to be over at quarter time as the Eagles led by 43 points. The second term only got worse for Huonville as it was unable to kick a goal while the powerful Eagles slammed on another nine majors to lead by a massive 100 points at half-time and another percentage-boosting victory was there for the taking.

The Eagles could have relaxed in the second half but to their credit they continued to dominate the game and powered away to another powerful win. They now have a decisive percentage break over second-placed Claremont in the race for the home ground advantage in the second semi-final.

The Eagles had contributing players all over the ground including Horne, Clayton (eight goals), key forward Cayden Wilson (six goals), Crane and Walsh. Other multiple scorers for New Norfolk were Hall with six and Tonks with four goals in a good return to form. Kelly, Paul and Dudgeon were the best players for the struggling Lions but they lacked support from their team mates.

Claremont 22.16 (148) defeated Brighton 9.8 (62)
CLAREMONT bounced back from the previous week’s loss to New Norfolk and defeated a disappointing Brighton by 78 points on Saturday. The young Brighton side came out full of running in the first term and really matched their more fancied rivals, but skill errors late in the quarter saw the home side get an eight-point lead.

The Magpies tightened up their defence in the second term and really frustrated the Robins, making scoring opportunities difficult. The Magpies were able to increase their lead to 24 points at the main break with Brighton still in the contest. The third term saw the Magpies put their foot on the accelerator and with eight goals to one the game was well and truly over at three quarter time and a 100-point win looked possible for the home side. In a gallant performance Brighton ended up kicking four last-term goals to give them some confidence into the next week whilst Claremont continue to dominate and are two games clear in second position on the ladder.

Best players for the Magpies were Barwick, Salter (four goals), Collis and Davey (two goals). Best for Brighton were Goodluck, Millhouse and Collis whilst Daley was their only multiple goal scorer with two.

Hobart 16.5 (101) defeated Cygnet 11.18 (84)
HOBART took the roadtrip down to Cygnet with a determination to win its third game of the season and despite stopping in the final quarter the Tigers were still good enough to run out winners by 17 points over a disappointing Cygnet which failed to take advantage of their home ground.

Dodges Ferry 10.11 (71) defeated Sorell 9.13 (67)
IN a close tussle between arch rivals the more fancied Dodges Ferry with the advantage of the home ground really had to work hard all day and just fell over the line for a four-point win. It was a thrilling contest with Sorell playing its best game of the season.

Lindisfarne 14.16 (100) defeated East Coast 15.9 (99)
IN the game of the round where fourth played fifth, Lindisfarne stormed home in the last quarter and with the last kick of the game registered a great goal to take a one-point victory over the gallant East Coast Bombers who had looked to have the game sewn up at half time.
