Round 4 - Derwent Valley games
A GREAT all-round effort from Bushy Park's Mitchell Crosswell saw his team record an excellent two-wicket win over St Aidans at Cambridge Oval on Saturday in STCA Third Grade. Crosswell took 2-18 off six overs during the home side's 8/227 and then went about taking to their bowlers, scoring a very good 103. Coming in at first drop and not dismissed until the score was 8/211, the work was done and Bushy Park finished 8/228 with 6.2 overs remaining. Shaun Fenton made 30, while Troy Smith also played a big part making 30 and taking 3-43 (8) and Trent Grant took 2-41 (10).
FIRST GRADE
Sunday
NEW Norfolk I recorded big nine-wicket win over Rokeby at Clarendon Vale. The home side was dismissed for just 84 off 26.2 overs with Joe McCulloch showing his talents as an all-rounder claiming 5/13 off 7.2 overs then in the run chase making 39 not out (4 fours, 2 sixes). Stewart Rice bowled well also taking 3/19 off 8 while assistant coach John Ferguson remained 39no including 7 fours and 1 six. New Norfolk finished 1 for 85 off just 11.1 overs.
In the other First Grade match, Molesworth I 10/148 off 45.2 overs lost to St Aidans 3/154 off 20.2 overs at Cambridge Oval. Opener Jake King was the only shinning light making 71.
SECOND GRADE
Saturday
GRETNA 6/297 off 50 overs easily defeated Campania 10/98 off 20.3 overs. Aaron Maddox was the big standout for Gretna, making 28 with the bat and 6-36 off 10 overs with the ball. Bruce Emery played a solid hand making 65 not out while Craig Cunningham made a welcome return to form with a fine 58 (6 fours), while Mathew Burns made 49 and Todd Jarvis also found form with 45 (6 fours). Jackson Ackerly hit up 21 (4 fours).
THIRD GRADE
IN the other third grade match, Sandford batting first in a high scoring affair 7/305 off 50 overs defeated Gretna II 7/241 off 50 overs. Openers Luke Wheeler 64 (9 fours, 1 six) and Damien Hack 52 (8 fours, 1 six) shared a 111-run opening stand. Tom Allcock did well 42 (7 fours) as did Adam Browning 28no (3 fours). Darren Lennox tool 3/61 (10).
FOURTH GRADE
Sunday
NEW Norfolk II 4/168 off 33.4 overs defeated Richmond/Cambridge 9/164 off 50 overs at Tynwald Park. Nathan Cashion 3/34 (10) and Shannon Long 3/39 (10) were the best of the Red Caps bowlers while it was opener Nathan Heron carrying his bat with 61 not out (4 fours, 2 sixes) and at number six a fine 57 not out from captain Jamie Hill (5 fours, 1 six). The pair put on a fantastic 147-run partnership. There were 44 extras.
At Bushy Park it was a all-Eyles attack with Bothwell I 10/193 off 37.3 overs defeating Montagu Bay 10/143 off 41.5 overs. Mathew Eyles again bowled well capturing 4/35 off 9. He also made 22 runs, while brother Joey Eyles made a fine 68 with the bat and then was very good with the ball taking 3/11 off 5. Captain Cody Eyles made 15.
At Boyer Oval, Molesworth II went down to Old Beach by five wickets. Dakoda Smith with some big hitting top-scored with a well-made 41 (3 fours, 3 sixes). Martyn Evans made 29 (4 fours) and Jake Foster 27 (3 fours, 1 six). Tim Radley-Kelly 2-34 off 7 was the best of the Molesworth bowlers.
SIXTH GRADE
Saturday
IN their first match in the SCA, Bothwell II recorded a dominant first-up win when it defeated St Aidans by 97 runs at Pontville. With the bat, Stuart Eyles did very well making 54 while Anthony White made 39. Bradley Eyles sent down five overs for a tight return of 4/11, Brodie White was also very miserly with 3/14 off seven overs. Well done team, a good first up victory. It's interesting to note there were three Eyles's playing for Bothwell I and six for Bothwell II.
The match at Tynwald Park was a close one with New Norfolk III 10/147 off 47.4 overs going down to Weily Park 8/148 off 41.2 overs. Captain Brad Kemmler struck the ball well with some big hitting making 45 including 3 fours and 5 sixes. Coby Kemmker 3/8 (6) and Blake Kemmler 3-31 (19) bowled superbly while Aaron Drew took 2/17 (10).

Colourful tribute at Arthur Square
Reverend Celia Hooker of St Matthew's Anglican Church officiated for the memorial service which was organised by the Can-Hope Cancer Support Group. Most of those in attendance were either celebrating being a survivor or remembering those who have passed away.

A local innovation this year was the creation of blue silhouettes for those specifically wishing to remember a male relative or friend.
The Can-Hope Cancer Support Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the New Norfolk Library. Phone 6261 3874 for more information.
Fuel reduction burn on Peppermint Hill
Resources mobilised for the event included a medium tanker and heavy tanker from the Tasmania Fire Service, two light tankers from Forestry Tasmania, and 10 light tankers, one medium tanker and two cars from the Parks and Wildlife Service.
