ROUND 8 PREVIEWS

Sorell v New Norfolk
SORELL is back at home but will have to wait another week to record their second win of the season as tomorrow's match with the in-form New Norfolk looks certain to be a one-sided affair. Sorell lost away from home against the undefeated Claremont last weekend but was competitive for most of the game. That display would have given them the chance to beat most sides in the competition and they really need to produce that form at home if they are to push their more fancied rivals.
New Norfolk thrashed a disappointing Dodges Ferry last weekend in a game where most people thought they would be challenged. They stood up and showed their domination and more importantly with players returning from injury they have hit top form early in the season.
Sorell will need to use the wide open spaces of Pembroke Park and chip the ball to try to get the ball long and deep into their forward line. New Norfolk has a big and powerful defence, which will see it take control of the game. The midfield battles are crucial.
Sorell may be competitive early in the game but New Norfolk is back in top form and hungry to boost the percentage and get a stronger hold on second position on the ladder. New Norfolk will be expected to run away with a big victory away from home and it will be interesting to see how competitive Sorell will be for most of the game.
Brighton v Huonville
BRIGHTON remains at home for the second week in a row and will be determined to grab another four points after last week's fade-out. Tomorrow they take on a struggling Huonville in a game they are expected to win. You would expect the Lions to come out firing and put up a real effort but Brighton has as much to play for and the disappointment last weekend will spur on their players to record their third victory of the season as they push hard for a top five berth.
Claremont v East Coast
IN the game of the round, top-placed and undefeated Claremont will take on the much improved East Coast Bombers who are currently third on the ladder. The game will really test the Magpies to see if they can lift for this crucial game. Both sides have key forwards capable of kicking the winning score and the midfield battles will decide the outcome of the game. You would expect the big and stronger bodies of the Magpies to win the crucial one on one contests which will go a long way to winning the game. It will be close for most of the day perhaps the experience and class of Claremont will see them take the points in a close game but they must be at their best as the Bombers would fancy themselves causing an upset.
Hobart v Dodges Ferry
HOBART is back at home and looking to win its third game of the season, taking on a fourth-placed Dodges Ferry still stunned by last week’s heavy defeat and determined to make amends. Hobart will be competitive for most of the game but the strength and class of Dodges Ferry should see them record a comfortable victory and entrench them in the top five with aspirations to move into the top three.
Lindisfarne v Cygnet
FIFTH-PLACED Lindisfarne is back at home and looking for a percentage-boosting victory but they will need to play better than they did last weekend as they take on an improving Cygnet who will be buoyed by last weeks first win of the season. Lindisfarne should record a comfortable victory and it will be interesting to see how much the young Port side have improved and if they can really push their highly fancied rivals.

Good wins and good sportsmanship in soccer

Under 6 Black put in a great effort. Special mention to Lucas and Zack for great sportsmanship and to our youngest player Lewis who shows improvement each week. Goal kickers: Vincent 4, James 3, Hemi 2, Shaun and Zack. Well done boys.
Under 7 Red played a fast-paced game against Dominic at Tynwald Park. A Super effort by all, with a special mention to Lilly for her constant improvement and really starting to get in amongst it all, and also to Anthony for his great work after copping a ball to the face which knocked out his wobbly tooth!
Under 7 Black gave a fantastic team effort against Holy Rosary. All players have improved so much this season. An outstanding game by Rodney Browning scoring his first two goals. Special mention to Amber Rainbird for scoring two goals and Tristan Nicholson scoring one. Keep up the awesome work guys.
Under 8 Red played a great game against a friendly Bagdad side. Awesome work by all players with goals to Jack, Nayte and J'Khobi. Declan, Jacob and Josh tried hard all game. Thanks to Kiara for her excellent goalie work and to both Kiara and Josh for filling in for us.
Under 8 Black once again played a hard game with all learning more each week. Mikayla and Jack scored well-earned goals, while Joshua and Jess tried very hard in the goals. Caitlin, Mia, Astrid and Jacob tried hard to stop a very good team in Brighton White. Thanks to Jack, Nayte and Declan for filling in as substitutes. With Jack and Joshua playing two games, both boys were very tired.
Under 9 played a great game against Brighton. Well done Maiken for his goal. The other goal was an own goal. Fantastic work by Abby and Caleb in goals with some great saves. Jenny and Caylin are both gaining more confidence as our newest players. Well done team.
Under 10 had a 9-0 win against Derwent United on a fantastic morning for soccer. Our goal-kickers were Aidan 3, Kiara 2 and one each to Luke, Ostyn, Brock and Jacob. Goal keepers were Luke and Alex B. Special mention to Alex B and Maddy who each played a half for Derwent with fantastic sportsmanship playing as hard for Derwent as they do for New Norfolk. Also well done to Alex G and Freya who ran hard all game. Well done everyone, you should be very proud.
Under 11 defeated Derwent United 3-1 at Weily Park on Friday night. Once again a fantastic contribution by all team members. Goal scorers were Levi 2 and Brayden. Well done Under 11.
Under 14 defeated New Town White by four goals (6-2). A fast-paced game and great team work saw us leading by a goal in the first half. Nathan Coleman had a fantastic run from the backline which resulted in a penalty and was kicked right on the half-time whistle. Liam Kalbfell having played well in goals came out in the second half to kick two goals, one being from a corner kick in. Excellent skills from the backline through to the fast-paced forwards allowed Braydon Wilson to score three goals. This was the best game I have seen this team play and they all should be proud of themselves!! Well done guys and girls.
Under 16 played Huonville at Tynwald Park and although they lost they kept Huonville goal-less in the second half because of good team structure. Sam scored the goal for New Norfolk.
Seniors – New Norfolk Division 4 ended their run of matches against the top four teams with an away game against second on the ladder Derwent. The team started well, scoring the first goal through Luke Slater but lost two goals by half time. The second half was an end-to-end affair with both sides going close. New Norfolk almost snatched a well-deserved draw after Josh Young’s free kick rattled the crossbar and bounced down and eventually out of danger. The defence put on an incredibly solid performance to continually deny the prolific Derwent strikers. This week the team are at home at Tynwald Park versus University at 2.30pm, come along and show your support.

FOURTH-PLACED Dodges Ferry was reminded of the large gap between it and the top sides when it hosted New Norfolk and was totally out played all day last Saturday, eventually losing by 112 points. The Eagles wanted to make a statement away from home and they did that in the first term, piling on four goals. Even though the Sharks flooded their forward line they were able to generate many scoring options and raced to a handy 25-point lead at the first change.
The second term was again all one way for New Norfolk as its defence started to tighten up and limited the scoring opportunities for the Sharks. The Eagles kicked a further seven goals and raced to a match-winning lead of 57 points at the main break. By then the only interest in this game was how much the Eagles were going to win by.
The second half followed the same pattern but more importantly New Norfolk really tightened its defence, allowing the home side to kick only one goal as they raced away to another commanding victory and sent out a warning to other sides in the competition that this powerful side is nearing its peak.
Best players for the Eagles were Belcher, Horne and forward Thomson whilst key forwards Hall kicked fie and Wilson kicked four. With many options up forward they again showed they have superior scoring ability. Better players for the Sharks were Cannon, Curran, Little and Jackson as they now know the benchmark of what they need to match it with the top sides.

CLAREMONT continued its unbeaten start to the season and defeated the gallant Sorell by 49 points. The Magpies moved to a handy 20 point at the first change. The second term saw the visitors take control of the midfield battle and they were able to kick five goals for the term and reduce the margin to 10 points at the main break. The third term saw the Magpies step up a gear as they dominated all over the ground, slamming on seven goals for the term and they moved to a match-winning lead of 33 points at the last change. The last term saw Claremont register a comfortable victory but the young Eagles would have pleased Coach Lewis with their effort against the top side of the competition.
Lindisfarne 10.15 (75) defeated Brighton 8.15 (63)
LINDISFARNE moved two games clear in the top five after a real battle away from home, eventually defeating a gallant Brighton by 12 points in a low-scoring affair. Lindisfarne tried to make a statement in the first term and they did that from the first bounce as they put in a dominant to display to kick six unanswered goals and raced to a 36 point lead at the first change and looked to be in for a big victory. The young Brighton side worked its way back into the game in the second half and kept the opposition scoreless while kicking three goals of their own to reduce the margin to 17 points at half time. Brighton kicked another five unanswered goals to again keep the highly-rated opposition without a goal in the third term as they moved to a nine-point lead and looked set to run away with a great win in front of their home crowed. In the final term the Two Blues really got their game going, kicking four unanswered goals and holding the Robins to only six behinds as they went on to a gutsy win away.

CYGNET recorded its first win of the season with a great display at home, eventually defeating arch-rivals Huonville by 29 points. The margin would have been greater except for inaccurate kicking.

THE East Coast Bombers remain firmly entrenched in the top four after a percentage-boosting 56-point victory over an improving Hobart.

Ceremonial start to Woolies development
“We are tremendously excited to officially mark the commencement of work on this modern new development after two years of planning,”
Mr Weight said. The development will include a brand new 3200sqm Woolworths store and parking for more than 200 cars.
"The new development will create more than 150 jobs during the construction period with a further 120 local
jobs at the Woolworths supermarket once the development is completed. We are pleased to be supporting local construction jobs with the appointment of Macquarie Builders as the lead contractor for the project,” he said.
With construction subject to weather and other variables the new New Norfolk store is expected to open in mid-2015.
