Pennyworth in Burnett St was the latest New Norfolk location to be filmed in
connection with the upcoming ABC-TV comedy series Rosehaven. Filming
started earlier today and continued into the evening, when the long-standing
antiques and collectibles shop was lit-up against the night.

Lachlan teacher's new leading role

A DERWENT Valley woman is the new principal of the Northern Christian School at Bridgewater. Petrina Essex from Lachlan has taken over from the long-serving head-of-school Christine Woolley who was also a long-time local resident.

Mrs Essex has lived at New Norfolk and Lachlan for eight years, having moved from the mainland with husband Greg and their children. After traveling to Kingston each day for work, a shift closer to home resulted in Mrs Essex being appointed principal when Mrs Woolley retired last year.

"Christine put her heart and soul into the school to establish it as a small, yet solid educational facility," Mrs Essex said. The new principal aims continue that legacy while growing the school in numbers and facilities.

The school draws students from Ellendale to Brighton to North Hobart and offers a bus service to all areas in between. The school is opening its doors on June 3 from 9.30-11.30am to show how it is addressing the areas of design and technology.

Mrs Essex invites the community to join in the family events being planned this term. There is an ambrose golf tournament on Saturday, May 21, and a barefoot bowls night this Friday, May 13. Contact the school for more information.

Huonville has extended New Norfolk’s unusually rough start to the season. The Lions were in the lead from the start on Saturday, finishing the first quarter six goals ahead of the Eagles. The home side held this lead throughout the entire game.

The Eagles came close to narrowing the margin at the end of the third quarter where they were only eight points behind, but Huonville proved to be that little bit stronger and showed a determination to pull through and widen the lead again by the final siren.

Michael Paul came out as best player for the Lions for the second week in a row, proving to be one of the strongest power forwards in the League this year. Paul managed to kick a big haul of eight goals throughout the game and was never far from the ball.

For the Eagles, Rohan Heron, Michael Thompson and Clinton Curtain led the scoring with three goals each. Congratulations to Ben Lovell of New Norfolk for playing his 100th senior game and to Chris Bomford of Huonville who played his 100th game.

Huonville also came out on top in both the Reserves and Colts games, continuing the Eagles' difficult start to the season for the Eagles. The margins were 68 points in the Reserves game and 36 points in the Colts.

This was an absolute thriller of a game at Kermandie. After having the scores locked on 1.3 (9) at the first break, the Tigers managed to push ahead and secured the a win. In the Reserves Hobart won by 53 points and in the Under 18s Southern Storm demolished Hobart by 112 points.

Claremont 22.11.143 defeated Brighton 9.10.64
Claremont ventured up to Pontville on Saturday and managed to move up to second on the ladder following a win against the Robins. The Magpies also won the Reserves and Under 18s games.

Lindisfarne 9.23.77 defeated Dodges Ferry 9.12.66
The Two Blues continue the 2016 season undefeated after a ripper of a game at Shark Park at the weekend. Dodges Ferry held a three-point lead at the first break, but that didn’t last long as the Two Blues pushed forward and gained the lead which held out for the rest of the game. In the Reserves Lindisfarne left Dodges Ferry feeling flat at the final siren winning by 53 points while earlier in the Colts game there was a draw with the final score being 11.7 (73) for both teams.

Cameras start rolling on Rosehaven

FILMING of the ABC-TV comedy Rosehaven has started in earnest at New Norfolk today.

Preliminary filming was carried out late last week and has resumed in Circle St in the area of the Historical Information Centre and the Visitor Information Centre.

It is understood that the historical centre - the town's former child health clinic - has been transformed into a doctor's surgery for the show. Filming will continue tomorrow.

Altus Traffic Management is on site to ensure traffic and pedestrian safety.

Labor wins quickdraw contest

LABOR candidate Brian Mitchell was first out of the blocks in the contest for the seat of Lyons, having posters erected at New Norfolk within hours of the Federal Election being called on Sunday.

Mr Mitchell also claims bragging rights having been the first to stake a claim at New Norfolk's prime poster location at the Hobart Rd roundabout in front of the Junction Motel.

The Federal Election will be held on July 2.

Sheep Graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Tuesday. Areas likely to be affected include parts of the North West Coast, Midlands, Central North, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Furneaux Islands, East Coast and North East forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 11am  Tuesday.
