Cygnet v New Norfolk at Cygnet at 2pm Saturday

NEW Norfolk is on the road this weekend on one of the longest away journeys to take on Cygnet after a comfortable victory over Huonville last week in Round 7 at Boyer. Brett Booth continues his great form for the Eagles as New Norfolk look to clear out on top of the ladder. Cygnet’s form has been consistent at home this year and the Cygnet boys will be keen to show a turnaround after a poor performance against East Coast Bombers last round.

The battle of the spearheads Ben Halton and Michael Thompson who have been racking up the goals could make this game one to watch. The players from the Port will have to compete for four quarters and be at their best to make this one a contest, but even given their home form so far this year it’s expected that the Eagles will once again be too strong and stay on top of the ladder.

THE Derwent Valley Women's Netball Association held its summer roster trophy night at the New Norfolk District Football Clubrooms on May 18. All teams were well represented which made for an excellent night.

Kylie Walker did very well, winning the A Grade best and fairest trophy, while Abbie Gregson took out B Grade and Finn Roberts C Grade. After the meal and trophy presentations, some kicked up their heels on the dancefloor while others reflected on the season that was.

All teams would like to thank the following office bearers and umpires for yet another great roster - president and treasurer Stacey Benson, vice-president Michelle Nichols, secretary Renee Chaplin and umpires Trudi Townsend, Leanne Cutlan and Debbie Foster.

President Stacey Benson who works very hard behind the scenes said the next roster will start in around four weeks time. At this stage there are 10 teams expected, which is great for this time of the year. New Norfolk downs Huonville

Southern Football League - Round 7New Norfolk v Huonville at Boyer Oval

THE Eagles continued their excellent start to the 2013 season at the weekend, staying on the winners list with bags of goals to Brett Booth (5) and Michael Thompson (4) contributing significantly to the result. It was the accuracy of the Eagles that made the difference and the Derwent Valley team now stays atop the ladder with a handy percentage after Round 7.

After a tight first three quarters, New Norfolk opened the floodgates in a final quarter which added five goals to their score while holding Huonville goalless. In the end an eight goal to four second-half made the difference as the Eagles took over with Booth and Sam Hall being the best players on the day.

Huonville showed bursts of good play but still need to deliver four quarters to see them gain a big scalp this season. For Huonville, James Lange was the standout player and Darren Garth again led the way on the scoreboard with seven goals.

In the Reserves game earlier in the day New Norfolk had a massive victory by 138 points and also took out the Colts match by 43 points for a clean sweep.

New Norfolk was outclassed by a more committed Lindisfarne team. The Lindisfarne players were consistently first to the ball and ran in numbers. New Norfolk’s backline was constantly under pressure and without the efforts of Kye Tomkinson and Cooper Triffitt the margin would have been greater. The boys now need to re-group and get back to the style of football they were playing prior to the bye. This Sunday's game is against Southern Storm at Tynwald Park at 12.30pm. A reminder to parents and players that the boys need to be at the ground by 11am for team photos.

New Norfolk junior soccer

THE coaches of New Norfolk's junior soccer teams report on last weekend's matches.

Under 6 Red: Played a great game against Brighton White. Well done team.

Under 6 Black: Played Moonah Primary. It was a good game in tough windy conditions. Special mention to Rodney Browning and Cody Britten for playing well.

Under 6 White: Had a super game against Brighton with all five boys scoring a goal each. Special mention to Liam for kicking his first goal of the season.

Under 7 Red: Had a great game against their fellow club team U/7 Black with Nayte, Mia, J’Khobi, Mikayla and Daniel playing a fantastic game with lots of hard work in defence.

Under 7 Black: Played New Norfolk U/7 Red. It was a close and exciting game as both teams tackled and won the ball, taking it down to their end and then having it taken by the other team and back up the other side. Well done to all the kids for great defending, attacking and goal scoring.

Under 7 White: Played their best game so far, getting a win against Derwent United under lights Friday night. Cale scored 6 goals and Jacob 1.

Under 8: Played their best game ever, winning 4-2 against Brighton.. Abby scored one goal, Maiken 2 and Cruez 1. There were some awesome saves from Caleb and Georgia in goals. Oliver, Sam, Cody and Luke all shared the ball, getting in there and giving it their best.

Under 9: Had a win against Brighton Gold 3-1. Goal kickers were Jacob, Ostyn and Aidan. Goal keepers Luke and Alex McMillan made some great saves. Well done New Norfolk, you played extremely well.

Under 10: Had a bye.

Under 11: Played a fantastic game, holding their defence well in the first half with nil-all at the beginning of the second half. Unfortunately it was a loss in the end but all players did well and are starting to work as a team. Special mentions to Jayden, both Jacobs and our awesome goalie Casey. Well done!

Under 14D: Played New Town Eagles at the Showgrounds in horribly windy conditions on Saturday morning.  It was so windy that one goalie could almost kick a goal at the other end with his kick-ins while the other just had it fly back at him! Although it was a 5-4 loss it was an evenly matched game with both sides working hard. Jack Rose, Aynsley Daft and Sam Plunkett-Smith worked tirelessly to get the ball forward while Adam Blackwell again played a fantastic game in goals. Well done team.

Under 14C: Played Beachside in much better conditions at Sandown Park on Saturday afternoon. Again it was an evenly matched game with both sides playing exceptionally well. Standouts this week were Blake Priest, Campbell Evans and Jacob George. These boys have really stepped up their game these last couple of weeks and should be proud of their efforts. Thomas Fulton made some spectacular saves in goal, with the game ending in a nil-all draw. Congratulations team on a great effort.

Concert band's royal occasion

THE Derwent Valley Concert Band will celebrate the 60th anniversary of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II this Sunday afternoon.

The New Norfolk War Memorial Hall will be the venue for "High Tea and Music from the Coronation of Queen Elizabeth" at 3pm this Sunday, June 2.

Everyone is welcome and admission is free.

Rates payments go post-free

DERWENT Valley Council rates payments will not be able to be made at post offices after the end of the current financial year. Council accountant John Bradley told a recent budget workshop that late confirmation of the council's arrangements with Australia Post meant this year's rates notices had to be ordered without the inclusion of post offices as a payment option.

Mr Bradley said all other options would remain in place, such as payment in person at the council chambers, by mail, BPay, over the phone, via the internet, Centrepay and at any branch of the Commonwealth Bank. Some 3500 rates payments were processed thorough Australia Post annually and this option would be reviewed prior to the setting of the 2014-15 rates.

Supermarket development approved

THE development of a major supermarket in central New Norfolk has been approved by the Derwent Valley Council. Understood to be worth about $15 million, the project will see a large new supermarket built on the oval at the Willow Court historic site. The location is on the corner of George St and The Avenue, opposite McDonald's.

The proposal was approved by the Tasmanian Heritage Council at its February meeting, subject to several conditions including a stipulation that the building must be a natural stone or brickwork colour similar to the limewash finishes found on the earliest buildings at Willow Court.

Following a rezoning of the oval space last year, the development fell into the category of "permitted use" under the New Norfolk Planning Scheme and the application was able to be approved by Derwent Valley Council's planning department without consideration at a council meeting. Approval was granted last week, subject to conditions.

The developer is Robert Rockefeller, owner of the building that houses New Norfolk's Woolworths supermarket.

THE coaches of New Norfolk's junior soccer teams report on last weekend's matches.

Under 6 Black: Played Metro Blue on Friday night. It was a good game by all players with great improvement from Rodney and Lucy.

Under 7 Red: Played at home against Bagdad.  Nayte and Daniel sent lots of strong kicks forward, Makalya and J'Khobi were great in defence and Mia played a fantastic first game.

Under 7 White: Played a good game against New Norfolk U7 Black, showing great team work with some good sharing of the ball and helping each other out.

Under 8: Played against Holy Rosary at Tynwald Park with great defence and ball skills and lots of sharing of the ball. Special mention to Cruez and Luke on a great game.

Under 9: Had a draw this morning 2-2 against Brighton Maroon. A massive goal kicked by Jacob and a very clever goal kicked by Aidan, fantastic saves in the goals by Alex McMillan and Alex Bourne, a very fast and competitive game by both sides. Well done New Norfolk.

Under 10: Played Brighton White at Tynwald on Saturday morning. A great team effort with all children coming out fired up in the second half.  Special mention to Levi for his efforts in getting around the competition. Well done New Norfolk.

Under 14D: Played Kingborough Lions at Tynwald Park on Saturday, coming away with a 8-0 win. I lost track of the goal scorers as there were a few of them and the whole team played very well so I really can’t highlight any one player but mention must be made about Adam Blackwell’s great work in goals.  Well done team.

Under 14C: Played Beachside B at Tynwald Park on Saturday morning, ending in a 2-2 draw after an exciting game.  Beachside are always a tough team to play against but our team were well up to the challenge.  Goal scorers again this week were Jordan Bailey and Josh Russell with Josh displaying a typical soccer/football players excitement after goaling while Jordan’s goal was as hard as a shot out of a gun!  Tom Fulton was sensational as goalkeeper, defending off many shots at goal.  Well done team.  

Great night at netball finals

THE Derwent Valley Women's Netball Association grand finals were played last Tuesday night at the Derwent Valley Sport and Recreation Centre. A large number of spectators turned out to watch some great netball with all three finals of a great standard.

The A-grade final was the closest with very little separating both teams throughout the course of the game, before with The Netts defeated Celtics by three goals. In B Grade, Fusion did well to defeat K-Oss by 11 goals while Calypso won by the biggest margin of the night in defeating the Bushrats by 16 goals in the C Grade decider.

Well done to all teams. A report of the dinner and trophy night will be published later.

X-ray service back in a fortnight

AN experienced radiographer would be appointed in the next two or three weeks to run the New Norfolk Hospital's x-ray service, mayor Martyn Evans has been told. Following speculation that the facility was to be closed, Councillor Evans today released the text of an email from the Tasmanian Health Organisation South.

The THO South is committed to the New Norfolk Hospital radiology service. The permanent radiographer left her position at the end of last week and recruitment has been underway to find a replacement. Whilst this is not yet complete, a limited service will be provided from the RHH as staffing permits. However, it is anticipated that the full three day per week service will be resumed in 2-3 weeks.
The capital investment made in the purchase of a digital X-ray was well thought through when this decision was made, and the service will continue to be provided and is an important part of addressing the local communities needs and supporting the local GPs.

Where scenes are brightest

A STUNNING photo of New Norfolk formed the backdrop for a full-page advertisement in today's issue of the Mercury newspaper. The view of Montagu St, the tree-lined River Derwent and the Derbyshire Rocks is one of a number of images underpinning the newspaper's new "We're for Tassie" campaign.

Tucked in the bottom corner of the photo is the Bush Inn Hotel, from where the same view is said to have inspired the composer William Vincent Wallace to write several of the melodies for his opera, Maritana, in 1838, including Scenes that are Brightest.

The new pet food shop

BUSINESS is on the move at New Norfolk, with new shops opening, old businesses returning and others moving to new locations.

New Norfolk Pet Meat Supplies opens today at 18 High St in the premises occupied by New Norfolk Meat Supply until the recent retirement of butcher Keith Russell after many years in business in the town.

The locally owned online business bigredbox.com.au is returning to High St with a "pop-up store" in the old Camelot shop between Banjos Bakery Cafe and the new pet food shop. This will be for a limited time over winter, opening later this month.

Meanwhile several local businesses are on the move this month. Ooh Lah Lay Retro Chic has relocated from the Willow Court Nurses' Quarters to 45 Burnett St, the former home of Old Maypole Antiques. Maree's Kitchen has also closed at the Nurses' Quarters and will reopen at 4 Circle St this Saturday, May 25. Long-established Wigston's Sports is moving from its home in central High St to take over the former Valley Vision offices at 2 High St from May 27.

Eagles in southern side

THE SFL competition has a break from the normal roster as the SFL representative team takes on the NTFA in Launceston at the NTCA ground this weekend.

New Norfolk is well represented in the southern side by Roger Belcher, Michael Thompson, Nathan Ross, Rohan Heron, Joe McCulloch, Zeke Gardam and originally Shayne Moles who will now miss with injury. Brett Booth and Nic Clayton were added to the side this week following consistent performances.

Reject Shop officially opened

The Reject Shop in New Norfolk

TWENTY jobs had been created through last week's opening of the Reject Shop's 14th Tasmanian branch at New Norfolk, managing director Chris Bryce said. The shop was officially opened at 8.30am on May 9 by store manager Tanya Barker and area manager John Bishton.

The new store is located in the former Chickenfeed premises at 27-29 High St. It occupies a space of 800m2 and is the Reject Shop’s 273rd store nationally. The firm has become Australia's largest discount variety retailer.

“We are delighted to open our new store at New Norfolk and look forward to providing our local customers with great products, great value and a great shopping experience every time they visit our store,” Mr Bryce said. Store manager Tanya Barker was excited to welcome customers in to the new branch to check out the selection of low-price every day products and bargains on a wide range of discount variety items.

Kingborough v New Norfolk at Kingston Twin Ovals

THE crowd arrived early at the Kingston Twin Ovals expecting to see a fairly close top-of-the-table clash between the two clubs most see as the competition heavyweights. However, what they got was a significantly different story, as New Norfolk took centre stage and stole the show.

Any thought of the Eagles dropping off a little this year has been swiftly put to bed. The Boyer boys were at their best against the Tigers as they served up an 85-point hiding. There was even the suggestion amongst some of the onlookers that they may have looked even better than last year’s premiership outfit.

However, New Norfolk’s first-year coach Jon Murray, didn’t necessarily agree, telling the Mercury: “I wouldn’t say this is a better team, but they proved to me today they want it. It’s more the connection, the way they click. We’re definitely up and about and that meant a lot to us today to get clear on top of the ladder, especially against Kingborough, who are a very fit and well drilled side. I take a lot out of it, ” Murray said.

New Norfolk seemed to signal the pattern for the day when it got off to a flyer, posting the first three goals of the game. Kingborough posted the next four goals and led the game at quarter time. The Tiger fight back was quickly matched as the Eagles raised the bar with a six goal to two second quarter. The loss of Shayne Moles with a broken collarbone and a ride in an ambulance seemed to spark the Eagles even further in the second half.

New Norfolk got right on top in the second half and opened the final term with a withering burst of eight goals in 12 minutes and looked headed for a cricket score margin. Brett Booth proved to be one of the more influential Eagles when he went into the middle, whilst regular stars Nathan Ross and Roger Belcher put a classy finish onto the Eagles work around the ball. Josh Hall kicked six goals and the other player to impress was Nic Clayton through the midfield and up forward kicking five majors.

In the Reserves Kingborough were the victors with a 15-point margin and in the Under 18s the Eagles came out on top by 53 points over Kingborough.

Coming off their big win last week, the Under 16s continued on with their great form crushing Glenorchy by 82 points. The Eagles put in four excellent quarters and were a pleasure to watch.
Centre half back Josh Farrow dominated all day with a best on ground performance and at times looked as though he had the ball on a string. Ruckman Daniel Browning dominated in the ruck with onballer Dakoda Smith taking advantage of this and playing a very strong and consistent game.
The Eagle forwards again showed their class with Connor Salter and Alex Blair bagging 13 goals between them, while Josh Ransley (four goals) and Cooper Triffitt (three) also got amongst the goals and Aiden Russell showed what he can do, kicking a great goal.
Coaches Shane Triffitt and John Rowbottom have certainly got the team up and about, but are not getting too far ahead, urging the players not to get complacent as they have some tough games in the weeks ahead and will have to be at their best to come out on top. This week the team has the bye.

THE coaches of New Norfolk's junior soccer teams report on last weekend's matches, which were the first after the school holidays.

Under 6 Red: Had a fantastic game. "I am so proud of them. They are beginning to work the ball more, were calling out to each other and had lots of fun together. I can't wait for next week to see them develop further! Well done everyone - thanks to Kerith for the clean soccer tops and oranges and many thanks to Jenna for washing our tops this week. Super teamwork."

Under 6 Black: Had a good game against Holy Rosary at Tynwald Park. "Stephanie Judges played a great game in attack and defence and Amber Rainbird scored a good goal in the first half. The whole team is improving each week."

Under 6 White: Played a great game against Derwent United in their first night match, running the ball very well around the ground. 

Under 7 Red: Had a great game. "Caitlin, Makayla, Jkobe and Daniel all did a great job considering only four players and very warm! Great effort."

Under 7 Black: Played an excellent game with lots of running to warm up. "Some good passing. Hamish, Jacob and Jack were the goal scorers. Big kick-ins and clearing by Declan and Jacob. Congratulations boys."

Under 7 White: Played great game against Bagdad with Cale, Ella and Jessie all scoring goals. "Good team effort!"

Under 8: Played their best game yet, losing 2-3 to Dominic. "Well done Maiken and Abby on your goals. Special mention to Luke and Cody on stopping heaps of goals."

Under 9: Had a win against Dominic Maroon, 4-2. "Goal kickers were Ostyn 2, Aidan 1 and Jacob 1.  Great saves made in goals by Luke and Brock. Great game by everyone, well done."

Under 10: Played a great game against tough competitors Holy Rosary at Tynwald Park. "Well done to all team members for never giving up, and especially to Montana for her impressive goal in the second half."

Under 11: The side rallied together to play a good game against Glenorchy Knights. "Although defeated the players never stopped trying with improvement shown by all, particularly in the second half.  Well done team!"

Under 14 Red: With only 11 players available for this game and seven of these having already played the Under 14 Black game in the morning, the entire team showed great skills and teamwork to come away with a 1-1 draw against Beachside at Sandown Park on Saturday afternoon. "Sensible passing and better thinking showed the players that they didn’t need to always bomb away to get the ball forward. Adam Blackwell was sensational as our goalkeeper, repelling many shots at goal and Cheyenne Harwood really stepped up her game this week. Jakeb Rhodes showed that you don’t need to drive the ball hard to score, with his slow speed goal fooling Beachside’s goalkeeper. Well done team!"

Under 14 Black: Played a great game in very windy conditions against Taroona at Kelvedon Park Saturday morning. "Although we lost 3-2 all players did a great job and should be pleased with themselves. Jacob George was doggedly consistent and Lachlan Farrah did some good work to set up Jordan Bailey’s second goal. Great game team!"

Willow Court treasure trove revealed

ABC News Tasmania

THE ABC has reported the discovery of historic artifacts under the floor of a building at Willow Court. ABC1 television news last night reported that Haydn Pearce had found a treasure trove of personal items beneath the building known as "Old J Ward" or the Ladies Cottage. Built in 1868, this was originally for fee-paying female patients and there was a similar ward for men.

Mr Pearce is the owner of a large part of the site that was divested by the Derwent Valley Council in 2003. He told the ABC's Danielle McKay that historic items had been found under the Ladies Cottage floor last year and he was seeking government help to create a museum to house the pieces, which he believed were stashed away by an individual patient.

It was said hundreds of items had been found, with thousands more still to be recovered. The collection includes clothing, letters and newspaper clippings. Mr Pearce said the items seemed to date from 1917 to 1933. The name Alice Sweeney appears on one item of clothing shown on television last night.

Mr Pearce also gave a lengthy interview on the discoveries to Chris Wisbey on ABC local radio this morning.

Eagles should be too strong for Kingborough

Kingborough v New Norfolk at Twin Ovals at 2pm Saturday
NEW Norfolk hits the road to the Twin Ovals of Kingston after a comfortable win at home last weekend. William Leitch Medallist and 2012 Leading Goalkicker Michael Thompson has kicked 10 goals in the last two games and Ash Humphrey will have his work cut out for him minding the key playmaker and becoming just as big a task is minding Zeke Gardam.

New Norfolk like Kingborough has dropped only one game so far this season, but Kingborough coach Adam Henley and his men took the points the last time the two teams played at this venue in last year’s season opener.

The toughest marking job for the Tigers will be to keep an eye on Nathan Ross, who has been in great form in the first five rounds. If Kingborough can get first hands on the football and not allow the Eagles too many avenues to goal they are a big chance to snare an upset win at home, but it’s expected that the Eagles will be too strong in a tight one and clear out on top of the ladder.

Eagles win grand final replay

New Norfolk v Lindisfarne at Boyer Oval

REIGNING champ New Norfolk had a convincing win in the SFL grand final replay against Lindisfarne at Boyer by 40 points, returning to the top of the ladder. Seven goals to two in New Norfolk’s favour in the first quarter was enough to set up the win and a 44-point half time lead was always going to be hard to pin back.

Michael Thompson has certainly returned to form and led the scoring for New Norfolk with six majors, whilst Zeke Gardam bagged five goals with the experienced Roger Belcher continues to deliver in big games and was best afield.

Lindisfarne showed some signs of good football, winning the last quarter by kicking eight goals to five but the game was well beyond a comeback by that stage. For Lindisfarne, Justin Marriott and Justin Myers were the best players with Myers leading the way on the scoreboard with five goals.

There was no Reserves game earlier in the day as Lindisfarne forfeited to New Norfolk due to a lack of available players.

In the Under 18s the Kingborough Tiger colts travelled to Boyer and came out on top by 17 points over New Norfolk in the variation game of the round.

Officially launching the project today, Senator Don Farrell said it gave visitors a complete overview of the production of malt whisky.

“Whisky produced at Redlands Estate uses malt grown, steeped, malted, kilned, mashed, fermented and distilled on site, and water from the Plenty River flowing through the property,” Senator Farrell said. “The redevelopment is creating a distillery and visitor centre that provides for whisky tasting and cellar door sales, while showcasing heritage-listed buildings that date to the 1850s.”

Redlands Estate owners Peter and Elizabeth Hope and their family have developed stage one of
the project with the help of a $110,000 grant from the Federal Government. The funding assisted in renovating the historic estate’s old granary buildings, establishing a traditional floor malting room and upgrading historic stone stables to house the distillery showroom and cellar door.

About 30 employment opportunities were created during the construction phase of the project, which is expected to lead to up to five full time ongoing positions and three ongoing casual positions.

The Federal Member for Lyons, Dick Adams MHR, congratulated everyone involved with the development of the distillery. “It’s been a pleasure watching this project take shape, from the initial talks of development, to being here today to see the distillery complete and operational,” Mr Adams said. “The opening of the distillery is a milestone for tourism in Tasmania, and I can see that Redlands will prove to be a valuable tourism asset for the state for many years to come.”

Frosty start to Monday

THE Derwent Valley is among the regions under Frost and Road Weather warnings for Monday morning as overnight temperatures tumble.

With temperatures down to -2 degrees, frosts are forecast for the morning in parts of the Midlands, Central North, Upper Derwent Valley, East Coast and North East forecast districts. Temperatures at ground level can be many degrees lower than those recorded by standard weather stations, especially in calm conditions with clear skies.

Icy roads will make driving conditions potentially dangerous during Monday morning in parts of the Central North, North East, Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast and Upper Derwent Valley forecast districts.

Roadkill speed signs are FYI only

THE "dusk to dawn" speed signs that appeared on the Lyell Highway between Sorell Creek and Granton last week may soon spread to other locations in the Derwent Valley.

Having been identified as a "roadkill blackspot", the Granton section of the Lyell Highway now has a recommended speed limit of 65km/h between dusk and dawn, and a similar overnight reduction may soon apply at Lawitta and on the Gordon River Rd.

The Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources says these are advisory signs only, meaning motorists are not obliged to drive at the lower speed.

Surveys by roadkilltas.com show a high roadkill density on the Lyell Highway for species including bennetts wallabies, Tasmanian devils and brushtailed possums.

Frescati open this Saturday

HISTORIC Frescati house and garden at Willow Court will be open to visitors this Saturday from 1-4pm as part of the Tasmanian Heritage Festival. There will be a display about the house and surrounding gardens. Admission is free.

A cold front is approaching Tasmania and is expected to cross the state this evening.

Damaging winds around 70 km/h with peak gusts of 130 km/h are forecast for parts of the Furneaux Islands, Western, Central Plateau, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.

Mt Wellington experienced a 124km/h wind gust at 10:35AM, Hobart 102km/h at 3:40PM.

The State Emergency Service and Tasmania Police advise that people should:
Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony.
Keep clear of fallen power lines.
For emergency help in floods and storms, ring the SES on 132 500.

New Norfolk v Lindisfarne at Boyer Oval at 2pm Saturday

NEW Norfolk returns home to Boyer Oval from a massive win on the road against Dodges Ferry last Saturday to host last year’s grand final foe Lindisfarne this weekend. The Eagle machine is really starting to purr again and they look a complete outfit when you see William Leitch Medallist and 2012 leading goalkicker Michael Thompson back in his best form.

There is no tougher task than playing against New Norfolk at Boyer, but Lindisfarne coach Adrian Goodwin and his men took the points the last time the two teams played at this venue in last season’s second semi-final.

The toughest marking job for the Two Blues will be to keep an eye on Nathan Ross who has been in great form in the first four rounds. If Lindisfarne can get first hands on the football and not allow the Eagles too many avenues to goal, they are a big chance to snare an upset win on the road, but it’s expected that the Eagles will be too strong and should register their third win for the season.

Reject shop nearly ready to open

The New Norfolk Reject Shop tonight

THE lights were burning late into the night tonight as staff continued preparing the New Norfolk branch of the Reject Shop for its grand opening next week.

The discount retailer is undergoing a rapid expansion throughout Australia and the local outlet is being established in the former Chickenfeed premises. The large shop at 27-29 High St has been given a makeover in recent weeks, including the installation of an automatic door.

A Facebook page announces that a grand opening will be held next Thursday, May 9, although there has been speculation that it may open earlier in the week.
