New date for vaccinations
THE Derwent Valley Council's free childhood immunisation session for this month will be held on December 16 instead of December 23. The session will be held between 2pm and 2.30pm at Ptunarra (Derwent Valley Child and Family Centre), 52 Blair St, New Norfolk. New planning scheme declared
THE Minister for Planning and Local Government has declared a new planning scheme for the Derwent Valley Council.
The new planning scheme will take effect on December 16, 2015, replacing the New Norfolk Planning Scheme 1994, and will be available at www.iplan.tas.gov.au on commencement. Further information about interim planning schemes is available on that website.

for the East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, Furneaux Islands, North West Coast and King Island forecast districts
Issued at 2:56pm on Thursday 26 November 2015.
Sheep Graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Thursday. Areas likely to be affected include the Furneaux Islands and King Island forecast districts and parts of the Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East, North West Coast and East Coast forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.
The next warning will be issued by 11pm Thursday.

FIRST GRADE
In the cross-town rivals match, New Norfolk I defeated Molesworth I by 53 runs at Boyer Oval. The home side won the toss sending the Red Caps in, and they made 8/212 off 50 overs. Batting at number six, Stewart Rice cracked a very-good half-century of 54, belting six sixes and one four. Joe McCulloch just missed out making 49 with six well-struck fours and two sixes. Chris Ashcroft made 22 and Dave Maddox 20. For Molesworth, Jamie Adams was the main wicket taker with 3-36 (10) while opener Chris Slater bowled tightly with 1-16 (10). In reply Molesworth got of to a great start with openers Brayden Hodge 33 (three fours) and Daniel Adams 21 putting on 57. Brad Coppleman made 31 (four fours) while Nathan Eiszele remained 22no. In the end Molesworth was bowled out for 159 off 44.2 overs. Doing the damage and capping of a good day was Joe McCulloch who took 4-23 off 9.2 overs. Rohan Heron backed up well with 3-32 (7) while coach Todd Rusher got 2-25 (10).
SECOND GRADE
Four wins from its past four encounters has Gretna I as the in-form team of Second Grade. Playing at home, Gretna I accounted for Claremont by a comfortable five wickets. Winning the toss, the visitors were bowled out for 148 off 43.3 overs. All the Gretna bowlers preformed well. Spinner Craig Cunningham 4-33 (8) and paceman Aaron Maddox had a terrific spell taking 2 for just 11 runs off his 10 overs. Jackson Ackerly finished with 2-36 (8). In reply Gretna finished 5-149 off 27.1 overs. Leading from the front, captain and opener Ben Rainbird belted a very quick 56 runs. Rainbird had his scope well-sighted, smashing eight fours and two sixes. Down the order Bruce Emery 27no and Rhys Browning 19no finished the game off well. Congratulations to Jackson Ackerly who played his 150th club game and Rhys Browning on his 100th club game.
THIRD GRADE
Gretna II had a very good 35 run win over second placed St Anne's at Cadbury's. Gretna had first knock and made the good score of 6/207 off 50 overs. Openers Damien Hack 22 (two fours) and Luke Wheeler 32 (seven fours) put on a 67 run stand. Peter Jelkic top-scored with a run a ball, making 47 (four fours and one six). Tom Allcock made 25 and Zac Crosswell 20 (three fours). In reply, St Anne's was bowled out for 172 off 39.5 overs. Paceman Zac Crosswell bowled very well, finishing with 3-33 off 8.5 overs as did Aaron Browning with his spinners taking 3-38 off 10. Luke Crosswell did his bit taking 2-16 (6).
Bushy Park played Brighton at the Bushy Park Showground resulting in a win for the home side. The winners had won the toss and elected to bat, hitting up the good total of 10/184 off 44.2 overs. Shaun Fenton had a great knock of 71, keeper Geoff Crosswell made 42 while Blake Howlett remained 10 not out. No other details were available.
FOURTH GRADE
Bothwell I had a convincing six-wicket win over Richmond/Cambridge at Richmond. The home side won the toss and had first hit. Due to some great bowling it was bowled out for 117 off 39 overs. Peter Hansch sent down six overs taking 3-6 in a tight spell. Brodie White 3-13 (6) and Trent Rogers 3-24 (9) also contained the opposition batsmen very well. In reply the Bucks lost just the four wickets on their way to victory finishing 4/118 off 22 overs. Opener Craig Davey keep his good season with the bat intact, scoring another half-century remaining unbeaten on 56. Matthew Eyles was next highest on 17.
New Norfolk II had a good 43-run win over the Knights at Tynwald Park. The Red Caps made 10/156 with Ashley Morgan making 43. Batting at number nine, Josh Walsh made a quickfire 40 (four sixes and four fours). In reply the Knights were bowled out for 113. Shannon Long who has fitted in well at the Red Caps bowled superbly taking 6-20 off 7.2 overs, well supported by Nathan Cashion 1-12 (8), Nathan Heron 1-15 (10) and Josh Walsh 1-24 (7).
Molesworth II was defeated by Montagu Bay by six wickets at Boyer Oval. The home side had first knock making the low score of 10/81 off 27.2 overs. Jake King 19 (three fours) and captain Sam Triffitt 19 (three fours) were the only batsmen to score double figures. In the run chase the Sharks finished 4/87 off 19.3 overs. Opener Martyn Evans tried his best to keep his team in it, taking 3-19 off 7 overs and Sam Triffitt took 1-13 (6).
SIXTH GRADE
Bothwell II totally outclassed Old Beach at Pontville by 10 wickets. Old Beach had first hit, making 10 for 108 off 24.3 overs. Openers Nathan Eyles 3-36 (6) and Nathan White 3-19 (6.3) did the damage with the ball. In reply the Bucks finished 0/110 off 19 overs. Anthony White 43no and Simon Eyles 37no got the job done.
At Tynwald Park, New Norfolk III had a close one with Runnymede, winning by just 18 runs. The Red Caps had first hit, making 10/127 off 28.4 overs. Brad Kemmler top-scored with quickfire 47, hitting six fours and three sixes. Damien Quinn made 22 (three fours) and Trent Smith got 17. In reply Runnymede didn't quite get there and was bowled out for 109 off 31 overs. Damien Quinn 3-16 (4) and Trent Smith 3-18 (7) showed they are handy not just with the bat. Brad Kemmler did well taking 1-22 (9), as did Shayne Upton 1-18 (4) and Jye Bearman 1-20 (4).

"Urgent Detergent" on the way to New Norfolk

Samsung first announced the recall of six models of its top-loader washing machines in April 2013. Despite ongoing national advertising campaigns, tens of thousands of recalled top loaders are yet to be resolved either by refund, replacement or rework.
The next phase of Samsung’s recall efforts will include a unique direct mail campaign targeting households in suburbs in Australia, including New Norfolk, which have been identified as likely areas where affected machines may still be in use. Samsung will dispatch "Urgent Detergent" packs to households in New Norfolk. The packages contain a sample of laundry detergent along with information regarding the Samsung washing machine recall.

“We have identified New Norfolk as one of the areas that could have a high concentration of Samsung top-loader washing machines impacted by the recall. Please check your own washer, but then encourage your neighbours, family and anyone else who could own one of the affected top loaders to check their machines,” Mr Lilly said.

Noodles are on again

Alexia's Noodle Plus opened in September last year and despite a promising start the business closed without notice earlier this year.
Now trading as Dingding's Noodles and Dianxin Shop, the new iteration has a smaller selection of noodles but a wider range of additional menu items including soups, entrees and Chinese-style main course options including dumplings.
The restaurant and takeaway will open from Wednesday to Monday for lunch and dinner (closed Tuesday). Trading hours are noon-2.30pm and 4.30-8.30pm. The menu is posted in the window and includes noodles, fried rice, soup and sushi.

FIRST GRADE
IN A rain-affected match that was reduced to 33 overs, Molesworth I defeated Sorell on its home turf by 61 runs. The visitors had first hit make 9/189 off 33 overs. Opener Daniel Adams showed good form with a top score of 65 (two 4s). Chris Slater hit out for 47, striking one 4 and three 6s. Jack Evans made 25 and Cody Neads 24. In reply Sorell ran out of overs finishing 8/128. Chris Slater had a good day and was best of the bowlers taking 2-19 off seven overs. Dean King 2-21 (7) and Jye County 2-28 (7) also bowled well.
In the other First Grade match New Norfolk went down to St Anne's at Cadburys No.1 by eight wickets. Battting first, the Red Caps were bowled out for 158 off 45 overs. Captain Dave Maddox top-scored with 42 (three 4s). Chris Ashcroft remained 40 not out while Rohan Heron struck four boundaries for his 22 and newcomer Harry Booth got on the board with 21 (one 4). In reply St Anne's did it comfortably finishing 2/161 off 34 overs. Wicket-takers for the Red Caps were Stewart Rice 1-20 (7) and Rohan Heron 1-21 (5).

CONTINUING on from their good win the previous week, Gretna I recorded another victory, this time at the hands of Richmond/Cambridge by four wickets. The home team won the toss and had first dig making 10/137 off 41.2 overs. Azza Maddox bowled well getting three of the top four batsmen, taking 3-25 (10). Todd Jarvis took 3-9 (2.2) while Jackson Ackerly took 2-23 (5) and opener Corey Ransley finished with 1-18 off 10 overs. In reply Gretna I reached the target off 38.3 overs finishing 6/139. Mathew Burns held the innings together with a well-made 53 which included five 4s and two 6s. Azza Maddox capped off a good day making 21no. He shared a 37 run stand with Brian Smith 18no to claim victory. Craig Cunningham made 15.

BOTHWELL I went down to the Marquis Tigers by just one wicket. Bowling the last over of the match, paceman Brock Nichols did his all to the get his team over the line, but it wasn't to be with the Tigers hitting the winning runs with just one ball to spare. Playing the club's first match at home this season, Bothwell did well making 7/193 off its 50 overs. Openers Craig Davey 55 runs and Tyler White 34 gave the Bucks a solid start together putting on 66. Captain Cody Eyles made 26 and Matthew Mayne 13. With the ball it was Brock Nichols 3-26 (7.5). Tyler White with a great all-round effort took 3-32 off 6 and opener Nathan White bowled tight with his 10 overs finishing with 1-12.
Molesworth II had a washout against the Knights at Boyer Oval. Play got under way with the home side batting first making 10 for 157 off 38.1 overs. Batting at seven, Josh Ransley did very well making 63, striking four 4s and three 6s, while at 10, Jayden Wilton was second highest with 17 (one 4). There was no other play due to the rain.

AN excellent all-round effort by New Norfolk II resulted in the Red Caps thrashing the Knights by some 145 runs at Collinsvale Oval. Winning the toss and batting, New Norfolk hit up the very good score of 8/276 off its 50 overs. Ashley Morgan just missed out on a half century with 49, striking seven 4 and two 6s. Opener Rohan Heron made 46, hitting seven 4s and one 6. Graeme Rowlands made 35 not out (three 4s, one 6). Brad Kemmler hit a quick 26, all coming in boundaries, with two 4s and three 6s. In reply the Knight were never in the hunt and were bowled out for 131 off 40.5 overs. Shannon Long topped the wickets with 3-30 (6) while Ashley Morgan had a great match collecting 2-31 (10). Young Mitch Rice did well with 2-27 (4).
Bothwell II was totally outclassed by Wellington, going down by nine wickets at Eady St. Batting first, the Bucks were bowled out for just 33 off 20.4 overs. No batsman made double figures with Bradley Eyles top-scoring with 8. In reply the home team lost just the one wicket finishing 1/35 off 8.4 overs. Captain Nathan Eyles captured the only wicket ending with 1-20 (4.4).

Concert band's annual meeting
THE Derwent Valley Concert Band will hold its annual general meeting at 7.30pm on November 25 at the New Norfolk War Memorial Hall, Circle St. The agenda will include reports of officers, election of the 2016 management committee and the endorsing of two life membership nominations.
Swimming season starts at Bushy Park
The 33m solar-heated outdoor pool will initially be open from 3.15-6pm on weekdays, while on weekends the pool opens at 11am. Facilities include a kiosk and barbecue area.

Council meeting this Thursday night
THE monthly meeting of the Derwent Valley Council will be held at 6.30pm this Thursday in the courthouse in Circle St, New Norfolk. The meeting is open to the public and the agenda documents are available online and in hardcopy from the council chambers.
Formal council meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month. Informal workshops are held at 6.30pm on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month and the public is invited to attend for the first 30 minutes of each.

Come on, Cyrene
The $6.6 million plant will produce around 50 tonnes of Cyrene per annum and is due to be up and running within 12 months, following a grant of $1.5 million from the State. Government. Norske Skog regional president Andrew Leighton said this diversification into bio-chemical production was a good fit for Norske Skog's Australasian strategic direction of "building our future from fibre and energy".
Mr Leighton said the company had been working with Melbourne-based Circa Group for the past 12 months and he looked forward to a long and productive relationship. He thanked the Tasmanian Government for its support for the exciting new opportunity. Circa Group CEO Tony Duncan said his company's focus was in the research, development and commercialisation of biochemicals from sustainable cellulose feedstocks. He said Circa had been working on the current project since 2009 and it was great to have Norske Skog on board given its knowledge and experience in processing wood residues and large-scale manufacturing.
Mr Duncan said the commercial demonstration plant at the Boyer Mill would be the fifth and largest scale-up of Circa's "Furacell" technology. He said the plant was designed to demonstrate the commercial viability of the technology, while providing increased volumes for researchers and customers in Europe, North America, Asia and locally.
He said customer trials over the last 18 months had shown Cyrene to be one of the very few new solvents capable of competing in a global market of over 900,000 tonnes per annum, where many traditional products are under increasing pressure due to environmental and health concerns.
"While there is a long way to go, this investment by Norske Skog and Circa Group, backed by the government, is an important step for the industry. This demonstrates that there are opportunities to grow the value of our forest industries, to create more jobs in Tasmania. The world wants new, more environmentally-sensitive products to replace those that use fossil fuels, and bio-technology is the way of the future," Mr Hodgman said.
Norske Skog and Circa Group would produce about 50 tonnes of the bio-solvent each year for export to European markets. "The investment is a vote of confidence in the Tasmanian economy, and will add to a long and proud history of forest-based processing at the Boyer Mill site. It also continues Norske Skog’s efforts to move with the market and to position the company to capture emerging opportunities," Mr Hodgman said.
"The government’s commitment will be drawn from unspent Commonwealth funding provided to the State under the Tasmanian Forest Agreement. This is a particularly appropriate use of these funds as they will help to grow – rather than shut down – our forest industries; creating jobs rather than ending them. We are pleased to support this project, and commend all involved in their work to seek a new and exciting future direction for our forest industries," Mr Hodgman said.
No more hiding behind the hedge

The last remnant of the 19th century house that once stood on the corner of Burnett and George Sts opposite the gates to Willow Court, the hedge was felled last Thursday morning.
Contrary to popular opinion, the hedge was not heritage-listed. The confusion arises from the Derwent Valley Council's decision in 2010 to allow the old house to be demolished but not the hedge on Burnett St and a paling fence on the George St frontage.

In the wake of the felling of the hedge, commentators have variously lamented its loss or welcomed the improved access for pedestrians and better sight-lines for traffic. In response, the Derwent Valley Council issued the following statement late last week:
- "Council is aware that the hedge has been removed."
- "No, the hedge is not heritage listed."
- "The hedge has been removed due to it obstructing pedestrian traffic in Burnett and George Streets."
- "Lopping of the hedge is not an option as it would expose a great deal of dead wood and would not be an attractive planting."
- "Council has requested the landowner to replace the hedge with suitable plants to the satisfaction of council."

Flag flying low for France
THE Australian Flag above the Derwent Valley Council Chambers in New Norfolk is flying at half-mast today and tomorrow (Tuesday) as a mark of respect and mourning for those who lost their lives during recent events in the French capital.
Across Tasmania, all councils will fly their flags at half-mast tomorrow as a means of demonstrating sympathy and support to those communities affected by last Friday's violent attacks in Paris.
“In our peaceful part of the world, it is difficult to comprehend such wanton violence but it is important we stand against it,” Local Government Association of Tasmania president Doug Chipman said.
“Flying our flags at half-mast not only shows our concern for the victims and their communities, but also our determination to be strong," Alderman Chipman said.
“Our thoughts, our sympathy and our condolences are with all those impacted,” he said.

House fire closed Boyer Rd
PART of Boyer Rd was closed earlier today due to a house fire at Dromedary. Acting Sergeant Scott McKenzie of Tasmania Police said no-one had been injured in the fire, which was reported around 1pm.
Boyer Rd was blocked for about 90 minutes while firefighters brought the blaze under control. Motorists travelling to and from New Norfolk were advised to use the Lyell Hwy. The cause of the fire is unknown at this stage.

New Norfolk RSL Sub-Branch president Stephen Ball welcomed those present and spoke of the special significance of the day. "At 11am on the 11th November, 1918, the guns fell silent on the Western Front, ending the First World War. We come here today to remember all those who have died or suffered in wars and conflicts and their families."
Wreaths were laid at the Cenotaph and a short address was given by Reverend Celia Hooker from St Matthew's Anglican Church. Just before 11am Mr Ball recited the Ode of Remembrance and Arthur Jones from the Derwent Valley Concert Band played the Last Post which led into a minute's silence.
After the singing of the National Anthem the focus shifted to the official opening of Centenary of Anzac Remembrance Garden adjacent to the Cenotaph. Thanking the State Government and Derwent Valley Council for their support of the project, Mr Ball said the roses planted in the garden had been chosen for their special significance. They are the Centenary of Gallipoli Rose and the Peace Rose.
Mr Ball then joined Mayor Martyn Evans in unveiling the Millbrook Rise interpretation panel telling the story of the Derwent Valley's participation in World War I and of the efforts to support soldiers when they returned from the war. Councillor Martyn Evans thanked the following for their assistance with information for the information panel: New Norfolk Historical Information Centre, Warwick Lee from the Army Museum of Tasmania, New Norfolk RSL Sub-branch and Ken O’Brien OAM, as well as Derek Jones for his work on the design of the board, and Cr Damian Bester and Cr Paul Belcher for their involvement on the working group headed by regional development officer Jess Dallas.

FIRST GRADE
A MATCH-winning unbeaten century from Molesworth I all-rounder Brad Coppleman secured an excellent three-wicket win over Rokeby at Boyer Oval on Saturday. Runs were certainly the order of the day with 599 runs scored in the match. Needing 300 to win off its 50 overs, Molesworth I got home with three wickets in hand and just 2.1 overs remaining. At one stage the home side was 4/69, but when captain Jamie Adams (48 runs) and Brad Coppleman 105 not out (8 fours, 4 sixes) came together, they put on an excellent partnership of 147 getting the score to 216. Nathan Eiszele then made 37 and earlier Brayden Hodge got 36. Larry Menzie remained 12no. Brayden Hodge 3-37 off 9 overs and Aaron Wingrove 3-69 off 8 were the pick of the Molesworth bowlers.
In the other Second Grade match, New Norfolk I went down to Sorell at Tynwald Park by 63 runs. The visitors made 9/162 off its 50 overs and in reply the Red Caps were bowled out for 99. Keeper Leigh Berry made 30 (5 fours) and John Ferguson 18 (2 fours) to be the only batsman to reach double figures. Ferguson also did well with the ball taking 4-39 (10). Aaron Drew 2-28 (10) and coach Todd Rusher 1-28 (10) did their bit also.
SECOND GRADE
GRETNA I comfortably defeated Sorell at Sorell by 10 wickets. Batting first, Gretna bowled the home side out for just 83 off 27.4 overs. Jackson Ackerly bowled well taking 3-21 off 8 while Zac Crosswell 2-12 (6), Todd Jarvis 2-12 (3.4) and Corey Ransley 1-21 (6) also bowled very well. In reply Gretna opening pair Bruce Emery 38no (2 fours) and captain Ben Rainbird 34no (5 fours) did a great job seeing their team to victory off just 17 overs.
THIRD GRADE
PLAYING at home, Gretna II went down to new club Brighton Eagles by three wickets. Gretna had first knock making 10/145 off 45.3 overs. Glenn Blackwell top-scored with 28 (4 fours, 1 six) while captain Damien Hack made 29 (2 fours) and Tom Allcock 18 (2 fours). In reply the Eagles reached the target off 32.1 overs finishing 7/148. Luke Crosswell 2-24 (6) and Aaron Browning 2-38 off 10 while young Jake Campbell who also plays for the Under 16s bowled very well taking 2-28 off 5.1 overs. Well done also to Darren Lennox who played his 150th club game for Gretna last week.
It was a low-scoring affair in the other Third Grade match with Bushy Park defeating Hobart at Bushy Park by 35 runs. Bushy Park had first knock making 9/111 off 26.5 overs. Mitch Crosswell top-scored with 29 and Troy Smith 27 and captain Dylan Grant 26 were next best. In reply Hobart was bundled out for 76 off 29.1 overs. All-rounder Mitch Crosswell capped off a great match taking 4-24 off his 10 overs while Dylan Grant did likewise taking 3-9 off 5. Troy Smith 2-32 (10) and Blake Howlett 1-9 (4.1) also kept things tight.
FOURTH GRADE
PLAYING at Lindisfarne, New Norfolk II had a 36-run win over Old Beach. Opener Trent Smith made 26 and Nathan Cashion 21. In reply, Old Beach was bowled out for 112 off its 50 overs. Red Caps bowler Liam O'Brien bowled exceptionally well for his team finishing 10 overs 4-13 with two maidens. Shannon Long wasn't far behind with 2-13 off 10 and Blake Kemmker 2-28 (8).
Bothwell I had a narrow four-run win over Bagdad at Bagdad. Batting first Bothwell made 10/119 off 29.3 overs. Opener Matthew Mayne and captain Cody Eyles top-scored with 21 each. In the run chase the home side was bowled out for 115 off 23.3 overs. Veteran Joey Eyles 3-29 (5) and Nathan White 3-42 (7.3) were the pick of the bowlers, but Brock Nichols and Mathew Eyles each took two wickets as well.
Molesworth II had the bye.

NEW Norfolk III suffered a narrow two-wicket loss to St Anne's at Tynwald Park. Batting first, New Norfolk made 10/91 off 28 overs. Batting at number eight, captain Brad Kemmler made 27 (3 fours, 1 six), while Nathan Heron and Andrew Challenger made 12 each. Batting second, St Anne's finished with 8/94 off 37.2 overs. Again captain Brad Kemmler led the way taking 3-16 (9) as did Shayne Upton 3-25 (6), being the best of the home sides bowlers.
At Cambridge, Bothwell 10/144 off 47 overs lost to Derwent 9/166 off 50 overs. Stuart Eyles top-scored with 37. Next best were Kelvin Eyles on 21 and Simon Eyles with 14. With the ball for the Bucks, Stuart Eyles claimed 2-16 (4), Brodie White 2-21 (9) and Simon Eyles 2-42 (10) were the main wicket takers.

The game is much shorter than traditional cricket, with a maximum of 90 minutes playing time. All the equipment is supplied. The program goes for two months and is open to boys and girls aged from 7-12. The cost is $99.

Special Remembrance Day this year

The Remembrance Day service will start at 10.45am at the Cenotaph in Circle St. In recognition of the Centenary of Anzac, the event will be more structured than in previous years. Wreaths will be laid and there will be addresses by New Norfolk RSL president Stephen Ball and Reverend Celia Hooker. A bugler will play The Last Post and the National Anthem will be sung.

Glover wins national challenge

Competing in the 1600cc division, Glover, from Sorell Creek, was racing on home soil for the first time since winning the Australian Formula Vee Championship in Sydney two months ago - the first Tasmanian to do so.
Meanwhile, among the 23-strong field in the 1200cc class was Glover's father, Leon Glover from Molesworth.

Record effort on Garage Sale day
The event was supported by 21 Tasmanian councils, and 174 councils nationally. Tasmania achieved a record level of participation this year, with 814 stalls registered statewide, and more than 1,822,146 items listed for sale at an estimated value of $1,531,745. About 20% of the sales were fundraising for a cause.
The Derwent Valley Council emerged as the number one municipal area in the state, based on the number of stalls held on a per capita basis. The municipality also ranked fifth on the national leaderboard.

A GREAT all-round effort from Bushy Park's Mitchell Crosswell saw his team record an excellent two-wicket win over St Aidans at Cambridge Oval on Saturday in STCA Third Grade. Crosswell took 2-18 off six overs during the home side's 8/227 and then went about taking to their bowlers, scoring a very good 103. Coming in at first drop and not dismissed until the score was 8/211, the work was done and Bushy Park finished 8/228 with 6.2 overs remaining. Shaun Fenton made 30, while Troy Smith also played a big part making 30 and taking 3-43 (8) and Trent Grant took 2-41 (10).

NEW Norfolk I recorded big nine-wicket win over Rokeby at Clarendon Vale. The home side was dismissed for just 84 off 26.2 overs with Joe McCulloch showing his talents as an all-rounder claiming 5/13 off 7.2 overs then in the run chase making 39 not out (4 fours, 2 sixes). Stewart Rice bowled well also taking 3/19 off 8 while assistant coach John Ferguson remained 39no including 7 fours and 1 six. New Norfolk finished 1 for 85 off just 11.1 overs.
In the other First Grade match, Molesworth I 10/148 off 45.2 overs lost to St Aidans 3/154 off 20.2 overs at Cambridge Oval. Opener Jake King was the only shinning light making 71.
SECOND GRADE

GRETNA 6/297 off 50 overs easily defeated Campania 10/98 off 20.3 overs. Aaron Maddox was the big standout for Gretna, making 28 with the bat and 6-36 off 10 overs with the ball. Bruce Emery played a solid hand making 65 not out while Craig Cunningham made a welcome return to form with a fine 58 (6 fours), while Mathew Burns made 49 and Todd Jarvis also found form with 45 (6 fours). Jackson Ackerly hit up 21 (4 fours).
THIRD GRADE
IN the other third grade match, Sandford batting first in a high scoring affair 7/305 off 50 overs defeated Gretna II 7/241 off 50 overs. Openers Luke Wheeler 64 (9 fours, 1 six) and Damien Hack 52 (8 fours, 1 six) shared a 111-run opening stand. Tom Allcock did well 42 (7 fours) as did Adam Browning 28no (3 fours). Darren Lennox tool 3/61 (10).

NEW Norfolk II 4/168 off 33.4 overs defeated Richmond/Cambridge 9/164 off 50 overs at Tynwald Park. Nathan Cashion 3/34 (10) and Shannon Long 3/39 (10) were the best of the Red Caps bowlers while it was opener Nathan Heron carrying his bat with 61 not out (4 fours, 2 sixes) and at number six a fine 57 not out from captain Jamie Hill (5 fours, 1 six). The pair put on a fantastic 147-run partnership. There were 44 extras.
At Bushy Park it was a all-Eyles attack with Bothwell I 10/193 off 37.3 overs defeating Montagu Bay 10/143 off 41.5 overs. Mathew Eyles again bowled well capturing 4/35 off 9. He also made 22 runs, while brother Joey Eyles made a fine 68 with the bat and then was very good with the ball taking 3/11 off 5. Captain Cody Eyles made 15.
At Boyer Oval, Molesworth II went down to Old Beach by five wickets. Dakoda Smith with some big hitting top-scored with a well-made 41 (3 fours, 3 sixes). Martyn Evans made 29 (4 fours) and Jake Foster 27 (3 fours, 1 six). Tim Radley-Kelly 2-34 off 7 was the best of the Molesworth bowlers.
SIXTH GRADE

IN their first match in the SCA, Bothwell II recorded a dominant first-up win when it defeated St Aidans by 97 runs at Pontville. With the bat, Stuart Eyles did very well making 54 while Anthony White made 39. Bradley Eyles sent down five overs for a tight return of 4/11, Brodie White was also very miserly with 3/14 off seven overs. Well done team, a good first up victory. It's interesting to note there were three Eyles's playing for Bothwell I and six for Bothwell II.
The match at Tynwald Park was a close one with New Norfolk III 10/147 off 47.4 overs going down to Weily Park 8/148 off 41.2 overs. Captain Brad Kemmler struck the ball well with some big hitting making 45 including 3 fours and 5 sixes. Coby Kemmker 3/8 (6) and Blake Kemmler 3-31 (19) bowled superbly while Aaron Drew took 2/17 (10).

Frosts with temperatures down to -1 degree are forecast for Tuesday morning in parts of the Upper Derwent Valley and South East forecast districts.
Please be aware: Temperatures at ground level can be many degrees lower than those recorded by standard weather stations, especially in calm conditions with clear skies.

Colourful tribute at Arthur Square
Reverend Celia Hooker of St Matthew's Anglican Church officiated for the memorial service which was organised by the Can-Hope Cancer Support Group. Most of those in attendance were either celebrating being a survivor or remembering those who have passed away.

A local innovation this year was the creation of blue silhouettes for those specifically wishing to remember a male relative or friend.
The Can-Hope Cancer Support Group meets on the first Wednesday of the month at the New Norfolk Library. Phone 6261 3874 for more information.
Fuel reduction burn on Peppermint Hill
Resources mobilised for the event included a medium tanker and heavy tanker from the Tasmania Fire Service, two light tankers from Forestry Tasmania, and 10 light tankers, one medium tanker and two cars from the Parks and Wildlife Service.
