Local cricket - week nine

Round 9 - Derwent Valley games

FIRST GRADE
New Norfolk I had a good 46 run victory over St Virgil's. The Red Caps had first hit, making 9/226 off their allotted 50 overs. Opener Rohan Heron did very well with the willow, making 90 runs hitting 10 boundaries along the way. J. Ferguson and Ashley Morgan were next top scorers with 27 each. In reply St Virgil's finished 8 for 180 off 50 overs. Of the New Norfolk bowlers, Graeme Rowlands 2-30 off 8 overs, Stewart Rice 2-30 (10) and J. Ferguson 2-42 (10) were the main wicket takers in the good win.

Molesworth I went down to Claremont by 92 runs. Claremont had first hit, making 9/253 off 50 overs. Dean King bowled well taking 3-25 off 9 overs while Nathan Eiszele and Brayden Hodges picked up two each. In reply Molesworth was all out for 161 off 44.2 overs. Nathan Eiszele top-scored with 40, hitting 3 fours and 2 sixes. Jamie Adams made 34 (3x4s) and Jake King 32 (5x4s).

SECOND GRADE
Playing Old Beach at Risdon Vale, Gretna I went down by 135 runs. Old Beach had first hit and at one stage was 5/59 but recovered well to make 10/256 off 48 overs. Aaron Maddox took 3-62 off 10 overs, Corey Ransley 2-50 (10) and Craig Cunningham 1-23 (10). In reply Gretna was bowled out for 121 off 28.3 overs. Ben Rainbird top-scored with 29 (4x4s, 1x6) and Rhys Browning 25 (4x4s, 1x6). Bruce Emery 21 (3x4s).

THIRD GRADE
Playing at home Gretna II went down to MacKillop Belta's by 75 runs. Batting first the visitors made 8 for 208 off its 50 overs. Brodie Gleeson showed great improvement taking 3-28 off 10 while Luke Crosswell also did well taking 3-33 off his 10 overs as did Cameron Emery who kept the pressure on for his full 10 overs was unlucky not to get a wicket 0-22 with five maidens (four of those in a row).
In reply Gretna was bowled out for 133 off 38.5 overs. Zac Crosswell batted very well for his 49 not out including 5 fours while Cameron Emery made 26 (2x4s) and Brian Smith 20. Well done to Emery on playing his 50th game for Gretna II on Saturday.

Bushy Park went down to St Anne's by 49 runs. Batting first, St Anne's made 10/109 off 32.5 overs and in reply Bushy Park couldn't manage to get the small total and was bowled out for just 60 off 12.5 overs. Shaun Fenton top-scored with 21 and Troy Smith next best with 15. Of the Bushy Park bowlers Blake Howlett had a real purple patch taking 4-5 off just 1.5 overs. Mitchell Crosswell 3-26 (10) and Trent Grant 2-19 (9) were the other main wicket takers.

FOURTH GRADE
An excellent century from Bothwell II captain Cody Eyles helped his team to a very good 58 run win over Old Beach on Sunday. Playing at home, Bothwell had first hit and racked up the very good score of 6/255 off its 50 overs. On his way to a 128 Cody Eyles put on a 137 run stand with Trent Rogers who batted well also making 48. Tyler White made 22 opening the batting. In reply Old Beach gave it a shake but just couldn't get there due to some good bowling from the Bothwell attack. Matthew Eyles took 4-38 off his 10 overs while Nathan White took 2-29 (10). Cody Eyles capped off a great day taking 1-17 (7). Peter Hansch got 1-30 (5) and Brodie White 1-42 (10).

Molesworth II went down to the Weily Park Rockers by three wickets. Playing at home, Molesworth had first knock making 10/115 off 37 overs. Tyson Gray top-scored with 18, while Sam Triffitt made 14 and Jake Foster 10. In reply the rockers finished 7/117 off 39.2 overs. Josh Ransley bowled well taking 2-23 (10). Jack Evans did his bit 2-26 (8) and Sam Triffitt 2-32 (10).

A big score of 174 from New Norfolk II opening batsman Adrian Eiszele gave his team early hopes of a upset that wasn't to be. Eiszele belted 17 fours and 11 sixes during his stay at the crease. With more than 600 runs scored in the match, New Norfolk lost to Marquis Tigers by 156 runs at the small Lansdowne ground. Having first hit the home team made the huge total of 9/404 off 50 overs. Adrian Eiszele 3-37 (5) and Nathan Cashion 3-74 (10) were the main wicket takers for the Red Caps. In reply New Norfolk gave it a big shot but just couldn't go on with it and was bowled out for 248 off 38.2 overs. Apart from Eiszele's century, Mitchell Rice was the only other batsman to reach double figures with 21 (2x4s).

SIXTH GRADE
With a good all-round performance, New Norfolk III had a very good seven-wicket win over Marquis Tigers. Playing at Tynwald Park, the visitors had first knock, making 10/176 off 44.4 overs. It was Adam Nossiter 4-23 from 9 overs and captain Brad Kemmler 2-29 off 10 who bowled very well, skittling through the visitors. Coby Kemmler also did well taking 2-17 (6) while Aaron Drew picked up 1-42 (8.4). In reply the Red Caps did it with ease, losing just the three wickets finishing 3/177 off 33.5 overs. Aaron Drew batted very well hitting 11 boundaries in his 61 while keeper Leigh Berry showed good support with 40 not out striking seven fours. Trent Smith 25 (3x4s) and Blake Kemmler 22 not out (1x4) also did their bit to help secure the win.

Playing at Cadbury's No.2, Bothwell went down to St Anne's by 4 wickets. After losing the toss, the Bucks were sent into bat and was bowled out for 70 off 27.4 overs. Blake Eyles was the only player to make double figures with 23no. In reply the home team lost six wickets in the run chase, finishing 6/74 off 13 overs. Captain Nathan Eyles bowled well taking 4-27 off 7 overs while Adrian Branch got 2-25 off 3. Blake Eyles took 3 good catches.
