Manhunt for Maydena man

POLICE are seeking information on the whereabouts of a Derwent Valley man alleged to have escaped custody yesterday.

Inspector Damien George said police were continuing to try to locate 21-year-old Jake Mark Pearce, but there was no risk to the community.

In a statement, Inspector George said Mr Pearce, of Maydena, had been arrested at Bridgewater at around 6am on Saturday in relation to alleged breach of bail conditions.

Police allege that Mr Pearce escaped their custody at the Royal Hobart Hospital, which resulted in a large-scale search by police officers on foot, in vehicles, and a helicopter.

“I’d like to reassure the community that there was no risk to the safety of community members while police searched in the Hobart area yesterday, and there is no ongoing risk. I ask anyone who has seen Jake since yesterday afternoon to come forward,” Inspector George said.

Anyone with information on Jake’s whereabouts can contact Tasmania Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers anonymously on 1800 333 000.
