Mrs Bromfield, of New Norfolk, was first elected to the council in 1991 and her long service was recognised by the Local Government Association of Tasmania in 2011 with the awarding of the inaugural Life Members' Award for Meritorious Service.
Her list of achievements includes service as the chairman of the New Norfolk Bicentennial Committee and playing a leading role in developments including the Millbrook Rise Boat Ramp, Black Jetty, New Norfolk Hospital funding, and the Lyell Highway upgrade. She has been a guest speaker promoting the role of women in Local Government and has supported initiatives such as the Maydena streetscape project; Maydena hall and swimming pool; Log A Load For Kids; Real Action Forward Thinking program; the Maydena Adventure Hub and Railtrack Rider. Mrs Bromfield has also been a council representative to the Maydena Community Association; Friends of Frascati Community Garden Committee; Autumn in the Valley Festival; and the Australia Day Committee.
Employed as a Teachers' Aide at Ouse District High School for many years, she successfully obtained funding for various projects including student transport, breakfast clubs and excursions, as well as attracting various visitors to the school, varied visitors. Mrs Bromfield has also been a supporter for students transitioning from Ouse to New Norfolk schools as well as for young single mothers. She has also served as a parent representatives on various school and college associations and boards.
Also on the honours list today are Wayne Meech, of Bridgewater, a former member of the New Norfolk RSL who grew up in New Norfolk and joined the army from here in 1966, who has received the OAM for service to veterans; and former Magra resident Jackie Brown who becomes a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) for significant service to agricultural education in Tasmania through the Bridgewater High School Farm.
