He suffered a knee injury in 1956 but played for Molesworth from 1957 to 1959 in the South Eastern District competition, being captain/coach in 1959. In 1962 he started a five year stint at Hamilton, winning the best and fairest award in 1962 and 1965 and runner-up in 1966. He was the captain/coach when Hamilton won its last premiership in 1965. He finished his career with Upper Derwent in 1969 and was among the best players in its grand final win.
He was the New Norfolk best and fairest player in 1954 and also won the William Leitch Medal that year. He was selected in the 1956 carnival team but suffered his knee injury at training and didn’t get to play a game.
