Lower Derwent on flood watch

FLOOD WATCH FOR ALL NORTHERN RIVER BASINS,
THE HUON RIVER AND LOWER DERWENT

Note: This Flood Watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT a Flood Warning.

A Flood Watch continues for all Northern river basins the Huon River and now includes the Lower Derwent.

A complex area of low pressure will persist to the south of Tasmania for the next few days. A cold front is crossing currently Tasmania. The cold front has brought moderate to heavy rainfall over the Northern catchments with rainfall totals of up to 40mm being recorded. Further falls of up to 20mm possible.

Stream and river levels are now occurring in the Northern River catchments.

There is potential for minor flooding to develop late Tuesday into Wednesday along streams and rivers in the Northern river basins

A Minor Flood Warning is current for the North Esk, Meander and Upper South Esk Rivers.

In the Huon catchment 15 to 30 mm of rainfall has been recorded. This rainfall will cause river level rises and with the forecast rainfall there the potential for minor flooding to develop early Wednesday.

In the Lower Derwent particularly about the Styx and Plenty catchments rainfall totals of 20 to 30mm has been recorded.

 The Lower Derwent is saturated from recent rain, the rainfall to date will cause rises with the potential for minor flooding to develop early Wednesday along in the Styx and Plenty and Lower Derwent.

 Strong and dangerous flows will be a hazard where river and stream levels are high over the next few days.
