Eagles trounce gallant Robins

NEW Norfolk continued its domination over its nearest neighbour Brighton with another powerful display at home to eventually run out winners by 105 points in very wet, windy and cold conditions at the Boyer Oval on Saturday.

In very difficult conditions, the first quarter was fairly even and it was late in the term before Eagles took over late in that term. After Brighton made an encouraging start to the game, New Norfolk led by just eight points at the first break.

In the second term the Eagles completely dominated the game, piling on 10 goals to blow the game apart and in effect it was all over at half time as New Norfolk held a 66 point lead. The Robins were struggling up forward and registered only one major by half time.

The young Brighton side continued to run out the game in the second half and whilst they were overwhelmed by the strong-marking New Norfolk forwards, they still battled hard and stopped the game from being a heavy loss. The Robins are still showing signs of improvement but they were undermanned against the stronger and more experienced Eagles.

Best players for the Eagles were new recruit Wilson, Tonks, and a good return to form for Bonnitcha, whilst key forwards kicked multiple goals with Thompson bagging 4, Hall and Booth each in an even performance. Best for Brighton were Williams, Daly and Bailey as they strive to register their first win of the season.

CLAREMONT continued its good start to the season with a third convincing win at home, this time against an undermanned Dodges Ferry, to eventually run out winner by 84 points in a dominant display.

East Coast 10.18 (78) defeated Cygnet 4.6 (30)
THE East Coast Bombers continued their unbeaten run and moved to second position on the ladder after they travelled to Kermandie to defeat Cygnet in very wet and cold conditions, eventually running out winners by 48 points.

Lindisfarne 20.22 (142) defeated Huonville 4.9 (33)
LINDISFARNE put in a dominant display with winners all over its home ground to thrash a disappointing and undermanned Huonville by 109 points.

Hobart 13.7 (85) defeated Sorell 11.9 (75)
HOBART moved up to fifth position on the ladder and recorded its second win in a row for the season after a come-behind-victory by 10 points over a gallant Sorell.
