Cake Lady springs a Saturday surprise

Jean Roper was thrilled with the response on opening day.
SHOPPERS in High St on Saturday had an unexpected treat with the surprise re-opening of The Cake Lady at its new location.

Having traded at 12 Charles St for about five years, the popular business has expanded into much larger premises and a higher profile at 33 High St.

Proprietor Jean Roper said she was thrilled with the response on opening day, particularly as it had not been widely advertised. Now called The Cake Lady Cafe, the shop will be open from Tuesday to Saturday. Find it on Facebook here.  The shop is decorated in a retro style with lounge-style seating as well as cafe-style.

Another new business is understood to have opened in New Norfolk today. Called The Town Farmer, the shop is at 57 Blair St, opposite the State Emergency Service headquarters. The premises have had many occupants over the years - most notably Bennett's Buy and Sell - but who else remembers when it was once a vintage car museum?

Previously trading as Derwent Valley Rural Produce & Supplies in Glebe Rd, the business had a temporary shop at 53 Burnett St while setting up the large new premises in Blair St. See their Facebook page here.
