MEDIA RELEASE
Eric Hutchinson MHR, Federal Member for Lyons
Willow Court served as an asylum for the mentally ill and disabled for 187 years; closed in 2000 new life is being breathed into the buildings.
This year, Willow Court will host part of Dark Mofo, and bring new festivities to New Norfolk.
Eric Hutchinson, Federal Member for Lyons, showed the facility to the Prime Minister last year and has been encouraged by the community interest since.
“The site is an integral part of our history, it predates the Port Arthur Historic Site, but receives so little attention from tourists and locals.
“I look forward to visiting it and New Norfolk and part of the Dark Mofo celebrations this year and I hope more events and businesses look at using this space,” Mr Hutchinson said.
Mike Parr’s installation Asylum will be held at Willow Court and is part of this year’s theme "The Storm".
