High St fences will be back in black

A temporary barrier is in place on one corner of High St and
Burnett St (pictured) and one corner of High St and Circle St
while the permanent fixtures are repaired and repainted.

WORK has started on a $60,000 project to spruce-up New Norfolk's main street. Derwent Valley Council communication officer Karen Gower-Bradley said High St's appearance would be upgraded as part of the council's 2017/18 capital works and street management activities.

"During the next three months, the familiar but faded blue powder-coated feature railings which line the footpaths of High St will be removed, damaged items repaired and each will receive a smart new coat of paint," Ms Gower-Bradley said.

Fifteen-year-old fence panels and bollards have been removed from two street corners this week and will be returned once they have been repaired and/or repainted. The process will be repeated until the upgrade is completed. "The paint colour chosen, Hammertone Black, reflects a modern aesthetic and will complement the railings and wider streetscape with a modern, textured look," Ms Gower-Bradley said.

Additional street banner poles will be installed in the CBD in the new few months and the exiting poles will be repainted. High-pressure cleaning of the central business district footpaths is also being done this month.

"Local sheet metal business owner Lawrence Williams has been contracted to undertake the painting and repair work on Council’s behalf," Ms Gower-Bradley said. "It’s a return to the site for Lawrence, who installed the original railings."

Mayor Martyn Evans said the improvements would be completed by the end of summer. “The upgraded infrastructure on High St will help revitalise the main centre of New Norfolk," Councillor Evans said.
