Paul Belcher, Candidate for Councillor and Mayor, Derwent Valley Council
Today I meet a ratepayer who used six vouchers to dispose of two single bed mattresses at the New Norfolk tip, which would have cost her $48 (WOW).
If elected I will bring to the table free disposal of green waste, metal and allowing car wrecks back to the tip site. Green waste is mulched up and used on the tip to cover it and metal is crushed and sold, so I do not think users should be paying to deposit them.
Tip vouchers should be a choice, not forced on ratepayers for $86 a year. I believe the people of Derwent Valley should have an option to purchase these as a lot of people are forced to, and don’t use them.

Dumping of waste is on the increase around the Valley and we as ratepayers have to pay to have it cleaned up.
We need councillors who are fighting for the ratepayers who they work for and not thinking they work for council.
