Lions Club news: supporting Cystic Fibrosis Tas

YOUR generous support for our fundraising activities recently enabled us make a number of donations, one of which was to Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania. Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited, life-threatening condition for which there is currently no cure.

In Tasmania, one in 20 people carry the CF gene which is the second highest rate in the world behind Ireland. People with CF develop an abnormal amount of excessively thick and sticky mucus within the lungs, airways and the digestive system. From birth, they undergo ongoing medical treatments and physiotherapy to improve their quality of life, emotional wellness and life expectancy.

Cystic Fibrosis Tasmania (CFT) offers invaluable services to its members, with nebulisers and other airway clearance devices available for loan.

Because regular exercise is an important aspect of treatment, CFT offers subsidies towards personal gym memberships, the purchase of exercise equipment and for sports registration fees.

To support educational aspirations, CFT offers Aaron Mackrill Memorial Scholarships for members wishing to undertake University education or TAFE or any other nationally recognised training.

Parents of children with cystic fibrosis are more likely to experience anxiety, depression, or both. Family respite and parent support is provided by CFT through the Little Day Out Program and parent events.

A counselling service is also available for members living with CF and their loved ones. In addition, a range of different financial assistance is available. Thank you for supporting our fundraising activities so that we can donate to such vital services. Lions Australia. We serve (more than sausages).
