TONIGHT'S Derwent Valley Council special open meeting and special closed meeting have been cancelled.
A small note on the homepage of the council website says simply that the meetings have been cancelled. The meetings were to have been held in the New Norfolk Courthouse from 5pm, with the open meeting to be live-streamed on Facebook.
Due to current regulations about physical distancing, it is understood the council did not intend to allow the general public to attend. The meetings were called at short notice to deal with the council's proposed COVID-19 community support package, and a confidential report on the Valley Children's Centre.
5PM UPDATE: In a video posted on Facebook late this afternoon, mayor Ben Shaw said tonight's meetings had been cancelled due to the absence of a ministerial order permitting council meetings to be held "off-line".
