for the Upper Derwent Valley, East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley, South East and Furneaux Islands forecast districts

Sheep Graziers are warned that cold temperatures, showers and strong westerly winds are expected during Saturday. Areas likely to be affected include the Upper Derwent Valley, South East and North West Coast forecast districts and parts of the Midlands, Furneaux Islands and East Coast forecast districts. There is a high risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to these conditions.

The next warning will be issued by 11pm Friday.

Bush Walkers Weather Alert
for the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts

Bush walkers are advised that snow as low as 400 metres is expected during Saturday. These hazardous conditions are expected to occur in parts of the Western and Central Plateau forecast districts.

Final voting figures released

THE Tasmanian Electoral Commission has tonight announced the names of the successful candidates elected to the Derwent Valley Council for the next four years. They are, in the order of election:

The election of councillors (above) is conducted separately to the elections for mayor and deputy mayor, which saw Cr Evans returned as mayor for a third time while newcomer Ben Shaw replaces and Cr Barry Lathey as deputy mayor.

All current councillors suffered a reduction in their previous levels of voter support and five councillors have lost their seats. Final voting figures for all 19 candidates have been released tonight and are as follows:

Fire in Esperance House at Willow Court

The New Norfolk Fire Brigade remains at the scene of a fire in the former
Esperance Ward at the Willow Court historic site earlier tonight.
The blaze appears to have been contained to one room but the huge cloud
of smoke drew many onlookers. The building is privately owned.

Lathey pips Shaw in latest election results

OUTGOING deputy mayor Barry Lathey looks set to have retained his seat as a councillor at the expense of Scott Shaw. The latest computerised count from the Tasmanian Electoral Commission shows 100% councillor vote now counted, but subject to a recount.

The results show a big improvement for Cr Lathey and former MP Tim Morris, with Cr Lathey taking Cr Shaw's spot in the final eight, which now looks like this:

Add your points before Christmas cutoff

MORE than 350,000 frequent shopper points have been donated to the Derwent Valley Community Card which has been operating at Woolworths supermarkets since last Christmas. The currrent tally means more than $3500 in grocery vouchers will be distributed to the needy this Christmas.

Last week's Derwent Valley Council meeting decided that for this year the vouchers would be distributed via the charity St Vincent de Paul, which has a branch in New Norfolk. The Community Card is said to be the first of its kind in Australia and it is the brainchild of New Norfolk resident Ruth Howie.

The card enables any Woolworths shopper to donate unwanted reward points. You do not have to be a Frequent Shopper Club cardholder to do so. All checkouts at the New Norfolk Woolworths have the Community Card number programmed into their cash registers, but points can be donated at any Tasmanian Woolworths supermarket or BWS outlet by quoting the card number 6194994.

As of last night, the points tally had topped 350,000. This year's total will be closed off on November 4, so there are just a few days left to help make a difference to someone's Christmas this year. Points donated after that date will start next year's tally.

So, when your Woolies or BWS checkout operator asks if you have a Frequent Shopper Card, why not say you'd like to have your points added to the Community Card instead - even if it's just this once.

MOLESWORTH I recorded its second victory of the season with a 77-run win over Old Beach at the weekend. Playing home, Molesworth made the competitive total of 158 with captain Jamie Adams again amongst the runs with a good knock of 77 striking seven 4s and two 6s. In reply Old Beach was bundled out for just 81. Josh Bomford was the main destroyer for Molesworth, taking 3-18 from 8 overs in a good perfomance, In fact all the Molesworth bowlers did their bit to help claim the points.

Gretna I recorded its first victory of the season with a very close win over Wellington at Eady St. Gretna had first hit, making 177 with captain Ben Rainbird top-scoring with 36 (four 4s and one 6) and Aaron Maddox making 17. The pair put on 50 for the opening stand and things looked in good shape. But the score fell to 8 for 111 and a not so defensible score look likely. Corey Ransley joined Todd Jarvis at the wicket and the two vice-captains put on a valuable 52 with Ransley making 33 and hitting all but one run in boundaries with five 4s and two 6s whilst Jarvis was 27 not out. In reply Wellington was going along nicely and needed just 22 to win with four wickets in hand. Aaron Maddox came back into the attack and took three of the four to help Gretna claim an eight-run victory. Craig Cunningham also did well taking 2-28 from eight overs.

In first grade, New Norfolk I went down to Old Beach by four wickets at Old Beach. The Red Caps made 173 with captain Dave Maddox batting well with 61, hitting six well struck 4s, while Stewart Rice did his usual thing, hitting a quickfire 42  with one 4 and five 6s. It looks like Rice now has his eye in for another big season. Old Beach reached the set target with the loss of six wickets. Josh Walsh and Josh Rowlands were the main wicket takers with two each.

Gretna II made it a good day for the club, downing the undermanned St Virgils by eight wickets. The visitors had first hit, making a competitive total of 149. For Gretna, the new boys Zac and Luke Crosswell bowled very well taking four and one wicket respectively. Joey Eyles also got amongst the wickets with two. In reply Gretna lost just the two wickets in chasing down the total with Joey Eyles capping off a good day with a well made 62 not out. Young Jordy Hastie also stood tall making 39. Eyles and Hastie put in a 110-run partnership to set up what was a good win.  Congratulations to new player Tom Gregson on playing his first game for Gretna, Tom is the 292nd player since 1977/78 and he claimed a wicket on debut.

After a big win last week, Bushy Park was on the receiving end of a loss to DOSA at the small Shoobridge ground. The home side had first hit and made the huge total of 5 for 403. No Bushy Park bowlers had an impact, with the main wicket taker being new player B. Howlett who got two victims and went for 102 off his 10 overs. In reply Bushy Park made the good score of 252 with all-rounder Mitch Crosswell making 122 - a great effort to say the least. Geoff Crosswell made 31 runs and Jarrod Oates put on 85. Oates did well making 49 in his first match of the season.

In fourth grade New Norfolk II went down to the Knights by nine wickets. New Norfolk had first hit and made the small total of 92 with Ashley Morgan the best with the bat and making 21 including three 4s and a 6. The Knights made light work of the run chase, getting the total with 30 overs to spare. Jamie Maddox snared both wickets to finish with 2-24.

In fifth grade, Molesworth II had a washout with St Annes at Cadburys No 1.

WITH about 60% of the votes now counted, the future continues to look grim for most of the current members of the Derwent Valley Council.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission's "possible election result" features the same eight names as it did at the 20% count, although challengers Ben Shaw and Frank Pearce have improved their position.

Evans and Shaw to lead new council

MAYOR Martyn Evans has been returned to the top job at the Derwent Valley Council with a comfortable margin over his closest rival, the newcomer Paul Belcher.

In the deputy mayoral count, newcomer Ben Shaw has edged out the incumbent Barry Lathey after the distribution of preferences.

Evans, Belcher and Shaw are all set to be elected as councillors while Lathey's seat remains in the balance.

Council election - first results

WITH about 50% of the votes for mayor and deputy mayor counted, Derwent Valley mayor Martyn Evans looks set to be returned to the top job, while newcomer Ben Shaw is the frontrunner for deputy mayor.

Time for Parliament to Apologise to Former Willow Court Royal Derwent Patients

THE Tasmanian Greens today tabled a Notice of Motion that will allow Parliament to take a first formal step towards apologising to Tasmanians who suffered as a result of policies of governments past in the notorious Willow Court at New Norfolk, Greens’ Health and Human Services spokesperson, Cassy O’Connor MP, said today.

“It is now almost 14 years since Willow Court and the Royal Derwent hospital were closed, marking the beginning of a more compassionate, rights-based approach to supporting Tasmanians living with a disability or suffering mental ill health,” Ms O’Connor said.

“We now have a rights-based Disability Services Act 2011 in place and the profoundly transformative National Disability Insurance Scheme, as well as a more inclusive, compassionate response to mental ill health in our community.”

“We have come a long way as a community, it’s now time to provide a measure of closure to Tasmanians who were effectively incarcerated in the New Norfolk institution, as well as to their families who faced a terrible choice and the staff who must also live with the memories of working in that sad place.”

“As a state, we need to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and government policies that isolated people living with disability and psychiatric or psychological illness in an institution such as Willow Court Royal Derwent.”

“The pain suffered in those times still endures.  There have been repeated calls for a formal apology as a means of acknowledging the wrongs of the past and committing to ensuring such institutionalised suffering never happens again.”

“It is the role of Parliament to acknowledge the wrongs of the past and to seek to put them right. In 1997, the Parliament formally apologised to the Stolen Generations for their loss of identity, of family and belonging at the hands of the State.”

“In the last term of government, we collectively and solemnly apologised to the Victims of Past Forced Adoptions for the emotional anguish caused by the State and charitable or religious institutions who took babies from their mothers on the basis of the morality of the day.”

“In this term, Parliament should apologise on behalf of the people of Tasmania to those Tasmanians and their families who were told the best and only option for their disabled or mentally unwell loved ones was institutionalisation at the notorious Willow Court and Royal Derwent hospital.”

“We will have the debate on the Greens’ Motion and hopefully move on together, in the spirit of tripartisanship to formally acknowledge the pain caused by past practices and apologise to those Tasmanians who suffered at Willow Court Royal Derwent,” Ms O’Connor said.

IF you haven't yet voted in this year's council election the last chance to do so is to deposit your postal vote in the ballot box at the Derwent Valley Council Chambers in Circle St, New Norfolk by 10am tomorrow (Tuesday). Some 3761 votes had been returned by today's mail, which is a participation rate of 52.62% so far.

Counting of the votes will start later in the day and early results should be available mid-evening. Results will be available online at www.tec.tas.gov.au

Clarks go better with Coke

FRUIT grown at New Norfolk and Westerway will continue to flavour Cascade syrups following the signing of a new agreement with beverage giant Coca-Cola Amatil (CCA). The company recently announced it had sealed a three-year fruit supply deal with Rob Clark of Lanoma Estate, to supply locally-grown blackcurrants and raspberries for the range of Cascade non-alcoholic beverages.

The deal ensures that the popular Cascade Ultra-C blackcurrant fruit syrup and raspberry fruit syrup will contain 100% Tasmanian fruit. As well, Coca-Cola Amatil's fruit and vegetable brand SPC has purchased local raspberries and strawberries for its new range of IXL jams.

Visiting New Norfolk earlier in the month, CCA managing director Alison Watkins said the announcement was great news for both Tasmanian growers and the local heritage of the Cascade products now owned by CCA. “We are proud to build on the brand heritage of Cascade which has been refreshing Australians for more than 100 years,’ Mrs Watkins said.

“Since taking over bottling of the Cascade syrups CCA has been and will remain committed to using 100% Tasmanian fruit. Ensuring we continue the supply of Tasmanian fruit is essential to the authenticity of our product. I am also very pleased to that SPC is now using Tasmanian raspberries and strawberries for our new stevia-sweetened IXL jams.

"It’s an interesting full circle because Rob Clark’s grandfather used to supply fruit to Henry Jones’ IXL jams commencing in the '50s, and of course SPC now owns the Henry Jones and IXL brands."

The Cascade fruit supply deal involves both blackcurrants and raspberries over three years. CCA has already purchased the equivalent of 120 tonnes of Tasmanian raspberries and 270 tonnes of Tasmanian blackcurrants. The fruit will be sourced from Lanoma Estate’s two growing sites in the Derwent Valley. In addition, SPC has purchased more than 16,500kg of raspberries and strawberries this year.

Lanoma Estate’s Rob Clark said his farm had been supplying high quality berries to Cascade for more than 20 years. The commitment from CCA underpinned the continued viability of the family's entire fruit farm and provided the scale needed to have sufficient fresh berries for Tasmanians in peak demand periods before Christmas and at the Taste of Tasmania, when the farm employs up to 120 seasonal staff.

“The new relationship with CCA has now also opened doors to major customers such as SPC who are using our fruit for their newly released range of IXL stevia-sweetened jams," Mr Clark said. “Australian consumers are increasingly interested in knowing where their food is sourced. Supermarkets are realising this and we are starting to see more of our Australian made and grown berry products on shelves. It is fantastic that Cascade fruit syrups, which have always contained Tasmanian fruit and been Australian made and grown, will continue to be so. “

Lanoma Estate has been owned by the Clark family for three generations. The farm grows more than 80 acres of blackcurrants and raspberries producing more than 200,000kg of fruit on growing sites located at New Norfolk on the banks of the Derwent River, and at Westerway on the Tyenna River.

The Westerway farm grows traditional raspberry and blackcurrant varieties. Willamette is a dark, sweet and juicy raspberry ideal for using in juices and jams. The low-yielding White Bud blackcurrant has high levels of natural sugar and acidity which gives it a unique fruity and refreshing flavour.

Kate Warner

A NEW Norfolk woman is among the finalists for the 2015 Tasmanian Australian of the Year Award which will be announced this Thursday. Lawyer and educator Kate Warner has devoted her career to law reform. After graduating with a Bachelor of Laws with Honours in 1970 from the University of Tasmania and subsequently completing her Masters, she embarked on an academic career.

As the first female dean of the law faculty and head of school in the 1990s, Professor Warner has been a role model to many young women ascending the academic ranks. As well as teaching criminal law, Professor Warner has served on many boards and is the director of the Law Reform Institute.

Professor Warner is also a foundation member and chair of the Alcorso Foundation, one of Tasmania’s most highly-regarded private organisations contributing to the arts, environment and social justice in Tasmania.

Olympian Kate retires

AUSTRALIAN Rowing Team member and London 2012 Olympic silver medal-winning athlete Kate Hornsey has announced her retirement from rowing. The 33-year-old Hornsey, who grew up at Molesworth, competed most recently in the Australian Women’s Eight that raced at the 2014 World Rowing Championships but has made the decision to retire from the sport.

“I have been a part of the senior Australian Rowing Team for a decade and the sport will always be one that I care very deeply for but sadly the time has come for me to retire," Kate said on Friday. “It became a decision for me as to whether I wanted to continue rowing and push for a place in Rio or whether to look to my future beyond rowing. The decision was by no means an easy one but I feel it is the right one for me and my family."

Hornsey won numerous accolades in her time with the Australian Rowing Team, including two gold medals in the 2005 World Rowing Championships, in the Women’s Coxless Four and the Women’s Eight, a time she describes as still one of her most treasured moments. “I would have to say winning gold in the eight and the four at the 2005 World Rowing Championships was one of my career highlights."

Hornsey said she'd had the time of her life at the 2005 championships and to follow that up with a silver medal in London in 2012 had been something else. “The 2012 season had been a challenging one, but also a highly rewarding one. It was a great season ... and is easily my greatest highlight along with the 2005 World Rowing Championships,” she said.

Hornsey represented Australia in two Olympic Games - Beijing in 2008 and London in 2012. She originally rowed out of New Norfolk Rowing Club, where she is now a life member, as well as the Friends’ School Boat Club and Mercantile Rowing Club in Melbourne. She offered her gratitude to a number of people for her rowing success, including her family, friends and coaches Cliff Hutton, the late Roger Drummond and Bill Tait who coached her to an Olympic medal.

“I also have to thank the late Sam Le Compte and Tasmanian Institute of Sport for seeing something in me and giving me the opportunity to make it happen. I could not have represented my country without the TIS and of course the Victorian Institute of Sport who welcomed me into their group when I relocated to Melbourne in 2009. Finally, I would like to thank Rowing Australia and all those involved in the Australian Rowing Team over the last decade for their support and especially to all the girls I raced with a thousand times over the years. I could not have made it through the years without the friendship and laughter you all gave me.”

Rowing Australia high performance director Chris O’Brien said Kate had represented Australia with distinction and her presence on the team would be missed by coaches and team-mates alike.

Congratulations to Kate on an outstanding career.

Time to retune the telly again

THERE will be a change in television frequencies in much of southern Tasmania next week. Suburbs affected by the change in transmission from the Mt Wellington tower include Hobart, Sorell, Richmond, Brighton, Bridgewater, New Norfolk, Kingston, Lauderdale and Derwent Park.

These move is are part of a national retune program that will free up broadcasting spectrum for new services such as mobile broadband. For Hobart and surrounding areas, the retune will occur after 5am on October 30. Some viewers in the New Norfolk area may also have retuned earlier this year if they receive their signals from the Shepherds Hill tower.

Viewers in New Norfolk may experience interruptions to ABC and SBS between midnight and 5am on October 30 due to work being conducted on the local distribution network, specifically at Hobart, in preparation for the retune of television services.

After the channels have changed, viewers will need to retune their digital TV, set-top box or digital TV recorder to find the channels that have moved. Retuning can done using the remote control. For most systems press the "menu" button on the remote. Look for settings such as "channels" or "auto-tuning" and follow the prompts to retune. A video and three-step guide to retuning is available online.

There may be temporary disruptions to all TV services on the retune day and the following day due to work being conducted at the transmission site.

Voting time running out

THE Tasmanian Electoral Commission reports that the response rate for this year's local government elections has climbed to 44.29%, compared to 41.58% at the same stage of the 2011 elections. Electoral Commissioner Julian Type encouraged all electors, who have not already done so, to take the time to record their votes and post them as soon as possible to ensure they are counted.

“Consider your vote right away so that you don’t miss the deadline,” Mr Type said. Votes must be received by 10am this Tuesday, October 28. As of yesterday's mail, 166,000 votes had been returned so far, including 3331 votes in the Derwent Valley Council election.

Counting of votes will start on Tuesday afternoon at centres in Devonport, Glenorchy and Launceston. Progressive first preference figures are expected to be posted from about 6pm onwards. The figures will be available on the TEC website, and will also be posted at the TEC tally room in the Hound and Horse Bar, Tattersalls Park (Elwick Racecourse) which will be open to the media, candidates and the public from 5pm.

Back to Waddamana this Sunday

A BIG celebration of the centenary of Hydro Tasmania will be held at the site of its first power station this Sunday. "Back to Waddamana Day" will be held at the Waddamana Power Station museum and village in the Central Highlands. The original station entered service in May 1916, providing the first hydro-electric power to Hobart.

Between 10am and 2pm there will be a free family day with guided tours through the power station museum and opportunities to share memories with former employees and past Waddamana village residents. There also will be music from the St Andrew’s Caledonian Pipe Band and a photographic slideshow of what life was like at Waddamana in the early days. An official cake-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the Hydro’s 100 birthday and to acknowledge the people who built the business, as well as those who worked and lived at Waddamana.

There is no need to book - just turn up. Waddamana Power Station and Museum is wheelchair friendly and more information is available online.

The Waddamana Power Station Museum and Village is located 42.5km north-east of Bothwell on the Waddamana Rd off the Lake Highway (also known as Highland Lakes Rd - A5). Travellers from Hobart should turn left off the A5 15km north east of Bothwell.

ABOUT 100 people attended community radio station Tyga FM's annual trivia night at the New Norfolk Golf Club last Saturday night.
Master of ceremonies Steve Halloran challenged the participants with a wide assortment of questions.
The result was a cliffhanger finish with only a half a point separating first and second place.
A good time was had by all and the station thanks everyone who supported the event.

Make a date for the music muster

FEBRUARY 28 has been named as the date for the second annual Derwent Valley Country Music Muster at Boyer Oval in New Norfolk.

A new website promoting the 2015 event names country sister-act Baylou as the featured artists, along with Zack Walsh and the Young Guns, the Tom Coulson Band and Midnight Revival.

YOUNG blower Dylan Grant took a bag of five wickets including a hat-trick in the first game of the season to help lead Bushy Park to a great win, thumping the MacKillop Beltas by 168 runs. Grant took all five wickets without any assistance, with three victims bowled and the other two caught and bowled. Meanwhile his brother Trent Grant picked up four wickets in a fine performance of his own, while the eldest of the brothers, Nathan Grant made 42 with the bat. All-rounder Mitch Crosswell showed early form with a well-made 69. It was a great result for Bushy Park which is now in Third Grade after a tough season in Second Grade in 2013/14.

Molesworth bastman Brad Coppleman racked up an early century to guide his team to a 85-run win over Claremont at Abbotsfield Park. Coppleman hit 13 fours and a six on his way to exactly 100 runs. Captain Jamie Adams gave great support with a fine 58 allowing his team to reach the great score of 6 for 224 off the allotted 50 overs. In reply Claremont was never in the hunt and was bowled out for 139 due to some very good bowling by the Molesworth quicks, in particular Nathan Eiszele who sent down 9.5 overs 4 for 26 and Josh Bomford 3 for 17 from seven overs, the pair giving very little to the Claremont batsmen. New recruit Jake King picked up one wicket as did Jamie Adams and Brad Coppleman who capped off a great day's cricket with his ton earlier.

Moving up to Fourth Grade, New Norfolk II had a close win over Lindisfarne. Making 146, New Norfolk had a total to defend. T. Smith and returning player N. Heron top-scored with 24 each. In reply the home team fell just five runs short, giving the Red Caps a great first-up win. Heron capped off a great day picking up four wickets to be the best of the New Norfolk bowlers while Adam Nossiter got three. Lindisfarne didn't help their cause by bowling 40 extras.

In First Grade, New Norfolk I went down to a good Claremont outfit at Tynwald Park. The visitors had first hit, making the good score of 7 for 229. For the Red Caps, Josh Rowlands put in a good effort taking three wickets while new recruit Aaron Drew took two in his first match for the club. Josh Walsh also bagged two. In reply, New Norfolk didn't really get going and was bowled out for 118 with Leigh Berry top scoring with 26 and Josh Rowlands again contributing with 23. The Red Caps may have lost their first match in the higher grade, but I'm sure there will be wins ahead as the season progresses.

In other matches, Molesworth II went down to Dynnyrne. Talented youngsters Jacksyn Mann and Jye County did well for their team. Mann made a terrific 66 not out and took two wickets while Jye County made a good 35 and bagged 3-33. Captain Brayden Hodge also picked up three wickets.

In the other Third Grade match, Gretna II went down to Campania by seven wickets. Having first hit, Gretna made the small total of 92. Bruce Emery made 19 and Brodie Gleeson 11. With the ball Adam Browning and Luke Crosswell tool one each in Campania's total of 3 for 97. Congratulations to Gretna's two debutants, twins Zac and Luke Crosswell. Zac is the 290th player and Luke the 291st to play for the club since the 1977/78 season.

In the other Second Grade match, Gretna I went down to Montagu Bay at home by six wickets. Having first hit, Gretna was bowled out for 124. Vice-captain Corey Ransley top scored with 18 and Rhys Browning and Todd Jarvis were next highest with 15 runs each. In reply Montagu Bay reached the total off 36.2 overs to claim the Ashes trophy the two clubs have played for over the past few seasons. For the Gretna bowlers, all tried hard with Jackson Ackerly, Brock Nichols and Craig Cunningham taking one wicket apiece.

THE Salvation Army's Communities for Children program wants to hear from parents of children aged 0-12 in the Derwent Valley as it goes through the development of a four-year strategic plan.

Information collected through an anonymous survey or confidential discussions will help the program to identify the strengths and needs of local communities.

Valley fruitgrower honoured

TWIN valley fruitgrower Reid Fruits will represent Tasmania at the 52nd Australian Export Awards after recently being named the 2014 Tasmanian Exporter of the Year. Established in the Huon Valley in 1856, the business also has 100 hectares of cherry orchards in the Derwent Valley.

Parliamentary Secretary for Small Business and Trade, Adam Brooks MHA, said he had been delighted to present the state award to Reid Fruits. The business also took out the Agribusiness of the Year award.

"Reid Fruits is one of Australia's largest cherry exporters and employs more than 80 people in regional Tasmania," Mr Brooks said. "They have recently modernised their cherry picking facility in the Huon Valley with the latest fibre optical and infrared packing equipment. This innovation and strategy has allowed the company to deliver premium quality cherries to over 20 different export destinations, meeting the specific consumer and cultural expectation of each market," he said.

In the past year Reid Fruits has launched two new brands – “Gold Kangaroo” and “Red Kangaroo” –and these have been well received by export markets. These premium products have their own gilded and embossed cartons. Fresh cherries from Reid Fruits in Tasmania can be on supermarket shelves in China, Japan or the USA within four working days of harvest.

The 2014 Tasmanian Export Awards were run by the Tasmanian Government’s Department of State Growth. All category winners progress to the Australian Export Awards presentation in Sydney next month.

Cricket season under way

THE Southern Cricket Association's 2014/15 season is under way this weekend and it looks like being an interesting season. Some players have moved on and others have arrived and four of the seven Derwent Valley teams have changed to a different grade from last season.

BUSHY PARK CRICKET CLUB has moved from Second Grade to Third and will again be captained by Troy Smith. They will be much more competitive this season with the inclusion of new player Shaun Grant and the return of Shaun Fenton who will join is former team mates in December. Bushy hasn't lost any players and rumour has it Jarrod Oates maybe having a hit with them. All in all, it looks a positive season ahead for Bushy Park.

David Maddox has been appointed coach and after winning the Second Grade premiership last season, the side has been elevated to First Grade and will again be captained by Rohan Heron. Its a big step, but with Stewart Rice still in the team anything is possible. New Norfolk II has also moved up, slotting into Fourth Grade and again captained by Stephen Nichols. The club has a number of top new players. Kendall Bluett from Campania will be a handy pick up, while pair Aaron Drew and Trent Smith have arrived from St Aidens. Leigh Andrews from North Huon also looks to be a handy player.
