Between 10am and 2pm there will be a free family day with guided tours through the power station museum and opportunities to share memories with former employees and past Waddamana village residents. There also will be music from the St Andrew’s Caledonian Pipe Band and a photographic slideshow of what life was like at Waddamana in the early days. An official cake-cutting ceremony will be held to celebrate the Hydro’s 100 birthday and to acknowledge the people who built the business, as well as those who worked and lived at Waddamana.
There is no need to book - just turn up. Waddamana Power Station and Museum is wheelchair friendly and more information is available online.
Important information
- Please drive safely. The roads into Waddamana are unsealed. Conditions can change quickly on gravel roads as a result of traffic movement, weather conditions and wildlife.
- Parking will be available on the grass oval opposite the village.
- Food and drink: Home-made soup and bread rolls will be provided. There will also be a sausage sizzle and a coffee van where food and drinks can be purchased. The Hydro suggests taking your own snacks or a picnic lunch and drinking water. The closest shop is at Bothwell (42.5km away).
- Prepare for all weather conditions as the weather can be changeable! We suggest you bring warm clothes and sun protection.
- Mobile phone and internet coverage is not available at Waddamana.
- There will be a live radio broadcast from Waddamana on the day. The ABC's Chris Wisbey will present his Weekends program live from the site.
How to get there
The Waddamana Power Station Museum and Village is located 42.5km north-east of Bothwell on the Waddamana Rd off the Lake Highway (also known as Highland Lakes Rd - A5). Travellers from Hobart should turn left off the A5 15km north east of Bothwell.
