Washing your hands for 20 seconds is one of the most effective forms of infection control. Do this after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing; after close physical contact with anyone who is unwell; after using the toilet; before and after eating; before, during and after preparing food; and after feeding or touching a pet.

Council election - first results

WITH about 50% of the votes for mayor and deputy mayor counted, Derwent Valley mayor Martyn Evans looks set to be returned to the top job, while newcomer Ben Shaw is the frontrunner for deputy mayor.

The Tasmanian Electoral Commission does not expect to release any results in the councillor poll until about 8pm tonight.
