Derwent Valley matches
FIRST GRADE - Sunday
New Norfolk I defeated St Virgils by the good margin of 50 runs at Tynwald Park. Winning the toss and having first hit, the Red Caps made 10 for 158 off 40.3 overs. Wicket-keeper/batsman Glenn Williams 37 (7x4s) and captain Rohan Heron 36 (4x4s) put on 57 for the opening partnership. Richard Graham and Adrian Eiszele were the next highest scorers with 12 each. In reply and after some great bowling, St Virgils was bundled out for 108 off 33.3 overs. Spinner Ashley Morgan led the way with excellent bowling taking 4-24 off nine overs. Stewart Rice bowled great line and length, containing the batsman and raking 3-26 (10) while Aaron Drew claimed 2-6 (1.3). Although the Red Caps can't make the finals they have done a great job in their first season in First Grade and a win this weekend against fourth-placed Campania would end their season on a high.
SECOND GRADE -Saturday
In very warm conditions at Sandford on Saturday, Molesworth I handed Sandford a 155-run thrashing. Winning the toss, the home team sent Molesworth into bat to make the good score of 10 for 246 off 46.3 overs. Nick Piuselli has had a few runs in Fifth Grade of late, and returned to Second Grade to make a fine 64. Brad Coppleman did his usual thing, scoring yet another half-century with 51 which included 9 fours. Brayden Hodge batting at number 10 made 34 with 3 fours and 2 sixes, while openers Jake King 30 and Cody Neads 24 also played their part. In reply Sandford was bundled out for 91 and this wasn't helped by playing one player short. Doing the damage was Chris Slater who finished with fine figures of 4-24 from 10 overs. Brad Coppleman has had a great season to date and got 2-16 (6) while Josh Ransley and Brayden Hodge got one each. With one round remaining, Molesworth is looking to play a big part in the Second Grade finals.
In the other Second Grade match, Gretna I gave up its chances of a playing finals cricket with a five-wicket loss to Claremont at Abbotsfield Park. The home side won the toss and sent Gretna into bat, resulting in them being bundled out for 105 off 32.3 overs. At one stage Gretna was 9 for 57, but thanks to a last wicket partnership of 48 by Daniel Browning 25 (4x4s) and Adam Browning 14 not out (1x4) the score got over one hundred. The only other player to score double figures was captain Ben Rainbird who made 17 (2x4s). In reply Claremont reached the total with the loss of five wickets. Corey Ransley 2-27 (10) and Adam Browning 2-20 (5) were the main wicket-takers while Daniel Browning got 1-21 (6). Congratulations to Claremont opening bowler Don Dykes who took 5-22 (10) in his 400th match for the club, not a bad effort from a 57-year-old.
THIRD GRADE -Sunday
Playing at home, Bushy Park got back on the winners list with a six-wicket victory over fourth-placed Runnymede. The visitors won the toss and elected to bat, making 10 for 131 off 35.5 overs. Dylan Grant was Bushy Park's main wicket-taker with 3-50 (10). Trent Grant 2-10 (3.5), Blake Howlett 2-15 (3) and captain Troy Smith 2-32 (10) also did well. In reply, the Park lost just four wickets in the run chase, finishing 4 for 133 off 23 overs. Keeper Shaun Fenton led the way with a good 43 not out, Mitch Crosswell did his bit once more with 30 while Troy Smith 16, Dylan Grant 12 and Nathan Grant 10 all chipped in. Bushy Park has now locked in a double chance for the finals and with one round to go is looking a good chance to go all the way.
Gretna II had a good 82-run win at home over the MacKillop Beltas. Winning the toss and batting, Gretna made the good score of 9 for 192 off its 50 overs. This total was mainly due to the ever-reliable Brian Smith who made 56 with 10 well-struck fours. Opener and captain Damien Hack made 21 (3x4s) as did Jordan Hastie while Luke Crosswell got 14 and debutant Ryan Emery made 13. In reply, the Beltas were bowled out for 100 in 32.5 overs. At one stage the visitors were 0 for 45 and looking the goods, but then came some fine bowling from the Gretna attack. Jackson Ackerly led the way ripping through the top order claiming 6 for 25 off 10 overs. Luke Crosswell got 2-22 (10) and Brock Nichols 2-29 (10) in what was a great effort. All though Gretna got the win, a finals berth is now out of reach. Congratulations to Damien Hack on playing his 250th club match for Gretna. He has given great service to the Gretna club for many seasons and let's hope we see many more. Well done also to Jordan Hastie on playing his 50th club match for Gretna on Sunday. Meanwhile a big well done to Ryan Emery who played his first senior match for Gretna and is now the 293rd person to play for Gretna since the 1977/78 season. Whats more, Ryan's father Bruce also played on Sunday and his number is 193. Ryan's older brother Cameron (number 239) has also played with the club.
FOURTH GRADE - Saturday
New Norfolk II went down to Marquis by five wickets at Tynwald Park. After winning the toss for the first time this season, and after a little dance, captain Josh Walsh elected to bat. After the first wicket fell with just 6, Mitchell Rice 25 (1x4) and Jarrod Browning 56 (7x4s) put on a great partnership of 95. Josh Walsh 38 (3x4s), (1x6) and Nathan Rice 19 (1x4) also put on a good partnership of 67. 14-year-old Nathan Rice did a top job batting for 30 overs. Brendan Skelly made 17 (2x4s). In reply the Marquis Tigers chased down the total finishing 5 for 194 off 42.1 overs. After his good stay at the batting crease, Nathan Rice bowled very well to take 2-33 (6) while Kendall Bluett 1-31 (7.1) and Brad Kemmler 1-39 (10) got the other wickets and there was one runout. New Norfolk II can not make the finals, but it's been a top effort by this side which came up from Fifth Grade last season.
FIFTH GRADE - Saturday
After winning their past four matches, Molesworth II went down to second-placed Knights by 26 runs at Pontville. Winning the toss and batting first, the home team made 8 for 146 off its 50 overs. Six of the seven Molesworth bowlers used took wickets with Josh Bomford with the best figures of 2-16 (7) and Jacjsyn Mann 1-10 (6). In reply Molesworth gave it a good shot, but was bowled out for 120 in 38.3 overs. Sam Triffitt 25 runs (2x4s) and Jake Foster 23 (1x6) were the leading run-scorers and Jacksyn Mann 17 and Tyson Gray 10 not out were the next best.

Final round before finals
IN the Under 13s games on Sunday, New Norfolk 8 for 102 was defeated by Lindisfarne 4 for 165. Jordan Gittus had a great match making 21 not out and taking 1-17 (4) in a very good all round effort. Tatem Lovell also did well making 14 runs. Josh Cantrell 1-13 (2) and Coby Kemmler 1-21 (4) bowled very well and this young side has done a great job this season.
In the other Under 13s match, Gretna 8 for 50 off 20.2 overs went down to South Hobart/Sandy Bay 4 for 145 off 25 overs. Tyler Scanlon made 18 (2x4s), Jacob Blackwell 6 (1-4), Tyron Bailey 2-6 (3), Brodie Scanlon 1-19 (3) and Brayden Butler 1-24 (2).
In an excellent match at the Glenora school ground the Gretna Under 15s defeated New Norfolk by 59 runs. This match was not short of highlights. Having already taken two wickets and made 19 runs for New Norfolk II in Fourth Grade senior cricket on Saturday, 14-year-old Nathan Rice stepped things up on Sunday to take 3-30 (7) then went about making a superb 104 not out which included 20 boundaries. Another feature was the excellent 92 by Gretna captain Grant Booth who hit 11x4s and 4x6s and shared a 150-run partnership with Sam Booth who made 22 (3x4s, 1x6). It was a great innings by Booth who has shown much improvement this season. In other highlights for Gretna, Blake Eyles made 45 runs (4x4s, 2x6s), Josh Eyles 24 (5x4s), while Jake Campbell did very well taking 5-28 (8). For New Norfolk, Dylan Morgan made 20 (2x4s, 1x6), Cody Morgan 15 (2x4s), while bowlers Jye Bearman took 2-37 (6), D. Keleher took 1-17 (3), Rhys Franklin 1-29 (7), Cody Morgan 0-4 (4). With this standard of cricket from our juniors, cricket has a bright future in the Derwent Valley.
In the other Under 15s match, Molesworth II had a nail-biting 8-run win over the Kingston Crows at Queens Walk. Molesworth won the toss and had first hit making 10 for 168 off 35.4 overs. Opening batsman Jayden Wilton batted superbly, making a fine 62. Ben McRoss made 24, Colby Evans made 11 while Jeremy Nichols made 10. In reply the Crows were bowled out for 162. Unfortunately the Molesworth bowling figures weren't available. It was a great win by Molesworth which has had a great season.

Derwent Valley Community House: During Mental Health Week 2014, the Long Lazy lunch provided food, games, activities, information, fun and laughter to more than 100 members of the Derwent Valley community at no cost.
Lions Club of New Norfolk: The Lions Club of New Norfolk has been holding an All Day Morning Tea annually for more than seven years. Funds raised supports the Cancer Council and Derwent Valley community projects. Morning teas are provided to patrons at the Lions clubrooms and delivered by members to workplaces in the Derwent Valley.
Corumbene Nursing Home: The My Journey program preserves the oral histories of the residents and celebrates their significant contributions to the community. This program provides a stronger link between residents of Corumbene and the community.
St Brigids Catholic School: Students in the Chronicle Group are active participants in Corumbene Nursing Home’s My Journey Program, with students visiting Corumbene on a regular basis and interviewing residents about their life.

Round 10
IN a great team effort, the New Norfolk Under 13s had a great win over New Town on Sunday. With all players having a part in the win, the team restricted New Town to 7 for 64. In reply New Norfolk made 3 for 92. In some great spells of bowling, Tatem Lovell got 1-1 (2), Teagan Kemmler 1-5 (2), Coby Kemmler 1-9 (4) and Jordan George 1-12 (4). In the batting for the young Red Caps, Coby Kemmler did very well making 26 not out, Jordan Gittus was 15 not out and Riley Higgins chipped in with 12 not out.
The Gretna Under 13s also had a great win, defeating Clarence Maroon at Clarence High School. Clarence had first hit, making 8 for 84 off 20 overs. All the Gretna bowlers did very well with Callum Rogers taking 2-6 (2), Bailey Wheeler 2-9 (2.3), Tyron Bailey 1-4 (3), Sam Jackson 1-10 (2) and Aiden Featherstone 1-13 (3). In reply the Gretna boys made 89 with the loss of just three wickets. Zac Wheeler top-scored with a fine 28 not out, hitting four 4s. Jacob Blackwell also did well with the good score of 20 not out including three 4s.
In big turn around in form, the Gretna Under 15s were totally outclassed by the Kingston Crows at Kingston. Gretna had first hit and was bundled out for just 35. Hannah Mann was the only player to get double figures, making 10 runs with one 4. In reply Kingston made hard work of it and lost six wickets for 38. Blake Mayne again put in a superb bowling performance to give his team a chance finishing with 3-9 off five overs. Blake Eyles also did well taking 2-4 from three overs.
In the Molesworth Under 15s v St Annes match, Molesworth 3 for 91 off 19 overs defeated St Annes 8 for 88 off 26.2 overs. No other details were available at the time of writing.
The New Norfolk Under 15s had a bye.

FIFTH GRADE - Sunday
With some great individual efforts from its players, Molesworth II continued on its merry way with an excellent 148-run win over Bagdad at Bagdad. The visitors won the toss and had first hit, making the good score of 10 for 227 off 41 overs. This was due to some very good batting from Jack Evans who knocked up a very good 54 including eight well-struck fours. Batting at number nine, Chris Slater showed his experience making an even 50. He found the boundary three times and hit over it with four sixes. Jye County hit four 4s on his way to 39 while captain Jackson Mann made 29 with three 4s. In reply Bagdad had no answer to the excellent bowling from Jye County who sent down eight overs to finish with 6-30. County continues to shine with both bat and ball looks to be the x- factor come finals time in a few weeks. Aaron Triffitt chipped in with 2-22 off 6 while Jack Evans capped off a great day getting 1-0 off just two balls. Molesworth is now outright second on the Fifth Grade ladder and just three points off top spot. A win over third-placed Knights this weekend could well see them take that spot.

In a very close affair, New Norfolk II went down to Montagu Bay by two wickets in a 48-over match. The Red Caps had first hit, making 10 for 133. Captain Josh Walsh led the way with a patient 31. Opener and birthday boy Aaron Drew made a solid 25 and Trent Mayne scored a confident 18.
With just five balls remaining and two wickets in hand (technically one wicket as one player had left for work) Montagu Bay secured the win. The Red Cap bowlers did very well in the bid to defend their total. Spinner Nathon Heron landed the ball well, picking up 2-23 from his 10 overs while Aaron Drew swung the ball claiming 2-30 from 10. Josh Walsh picked up two early wickets finishing with 2-34 from 10 overs. Mitchell Rice took 1-20 off 6 overs. A highlight of the match was the debut of Under 15 players Jye Bearman who got an awesome direct hit run-out which really pumped up the team. Nice work!

Molesworth I climbed onto second spot on the ladder on percentage by defeating St Aidans by 51 runs at Boyer Oval. In a reduced 37-over match due to rain, the visitors won the toss and sent Molesworth into bat for the good score of 3 for 172. This was due to a great captain's knock of 88 from Brad Coppleman. This talented cricketer has an average of nearly 50 runs and has scored 696 runs so far this season. Jake King made 30 with two good sixes while Nathan Eiszele remained 19 not out and Jamie Adams made 17. In reply St Aidans just couldn't take it up to the home team and was bowled out for 121 off 32 overs. Youngster Josh Ransley bowled extremely well taking 4-13 off 6 overs in a great spell of bowling. After his match high 88 with the bat, Brad Coppleman took 3-16 from 4 overs to cap off a great day. Brayden Hodge 1-13 (7) and Dean King 1-26 (7) also did very well with the ball.

The visitors won the toss and had first hit making the very good score of 8 for 232. Gretna used eight bowlers with youngster Daniel Browning taking 3-33 from three overs while a wicket each went to Tom Gregson 1-22 (1), Mathew Burns 1-25 (9), Craig Cunningham 1-27 (9), Ben Rainbird 1-27 (3) and Aaron Maddox 1-29 (7). In reply Gretna just couldn't find the knockout blow and was bowled out for 166 off 38.5 overs. Captain Ben Rainbird got his team off to a good start with a well made 42 (3x4s, 3x6s). Rainbird was well supported by Rhys Browning with 30 (1x6, 1x4). Todd Jarvis made 23 and Craig Cunningham 10 but it just wasn't to be. Gretna has slipped out of the top 5 on the ladder by just three points with the winning side Old Beach taking its place.

Archaeology field school at half-way mark
TEN Flinders University students and their archaeology professor are half-way through a field school at the Willow Court historic site in New Norfolk. The group arrived last Thursday and Friday and had a familiarisation session on Saturday before getting under way on Sunday.
The Willow Court Project is one of four being pursued by the university at present, alongside the MacKillop Memorial Park Project in Penola, South Australia; Archaeological Traces of the Seven Stars Hotel in Mallala, South Australia; and the Calperum Station Project, also in South Australia.
Expected to be the first of a series of annual field schools at Willow Court, this initial course is not conducting excavations. Instead, the students are mainly cataloguing items that were retained when the hospital closed in 2000, as well as material found during the current restoration work.
The field school ends on Saturday.

THE monthly meeting of the Derwent Valley Council will be held at 6.30pm this Thursday in the courthouse in Circle St, New Norfolk. The meeting is open to the public and the agenda documents are available online and in hardcopy from the council chambers.
Formal council meetings are generally held on the third Thursday of each month. Informal workshops are held at 6.30pm on the first, second and fourth Thursday of the month and the public is invited to attend for the first 30 minutes of each.

New Norfolk I went down to Sorell at Sorell by 25 runs. The home side won the toss and batting first made 7 for 207 from its 50 overs. Ashley Morgan was the best of the Red Caps bowlers taking 2-46 from 10 overs. Jamie Maddox also tried hard with 1-20 from 8. In reply New Norfolk gave it their all, but just missed out being bowled out for 182 from 47.4 overs. After claiming two wickets, Ashley Morgan batted very well at number seven for a well-made 55, hitting five well-struck fours. Richard Graham made 30 with 5 fours. Opener and captain Rohan Heron got 28 (1x6). Josh Dykes made 17 while Jamie Maddox got 15 (1x4).
SECOND GRADE - Saturday
In temperatures of 34 degrees plus, and with only three roster matches remaining, Molesworth I got back on the winners list by defeating second-placed Sorell at Boyer Oval by four wickets. The home side won the toss and sent Sorell in to bat. In no time at all the visitors were all out for 77. The damage was caused mainly by the experienced Dean King who finished with the excellent figures of 10 overs (five maidens) 4-13. All the other bowlers also did very well, Nathan Eiszele 2-12 (7), Martyn Evans 2-13 (6), Brad Coppleman 1-12 (7) and Josh Ransley opened the bowling taking 1-22 from 5. In reply Molesworth made hard work of it, losing six wickets before getting the win it was after. Wicket-keeper Cody Neads top-scored with 36 (2x4s), while young Josh Ransley at number eight did well remaining 17 not out.
At Sandford, Gretna I kept its winning run intact and climbed into the top five with a 50-run victory over Sandford. Winning the toss and batting first, Gretna made the good total of 198 from 41.5 overs. Captain Ben Rainbird opened the batting with a very good 64 which included (7x4s and 2x6s). Corey Ransley did his usual thing with a quickfire 32 hitting 2x4s and three very big sixes). Jack Gregson got 28 with 4x4s while brother Tom chipped in with 26 (3x4s and 1x6) and Todd Jarvis made 18. In reply Sandford was bowled out for 148. Rhys Browning was the main wicket taker, claiming some late wickets taking 4-14 off 3.4 overs. Corey Ransley again bowled well finishing 2-18 from 10 as did Daniel Browning 2-22 from 8. Aaron Maddox and Craig Cunningham finished with a wicket each. Well done to young Ryan Browning who was 12th man. He did a great job and took an excellent catch low down to dismiss the last batsman. Congratulations to Mathew Burns on playing his 250th match for Gretna I.

Bushy Park was completely outplayed in the battle for top spot, going down to Derwent by nine wickets at New Town. Bushy Park won the toss and elected to bat, but was skittled for just 106. Nathan Grant top-scored with 27 while Damien Madden got 22. Shaun Fenton made 15 and Troy Smith 12. Chasing the runs, Derwent was never in trouble, losing just the one wicket which went to Mitchell Crosswell 1-42 off 6. Bushy Park is now 3rd on the ladder but should bounce back against St Annes this weekend.
In the other Third Grade match, Gretna II went down to Runnymede by 99 runs at Gretna. Having first hit, the visitors made 9 for 187 from its 50 overs. Jackson Ackerly bowled well taking 3-35 from 10 including a very good caught and bowled. Brodie Gleeson showed good signs taking 3-48 from 10 while Darren Lennox and Tom Allcock claimed one wicket each. In the run chase, Gretna never really got going and was dismissed for 88. Brian Smith again to-scored with 26 (4x4s) while Zac Crosswell 12 (2x4s) and brother Luke 10 were the only others to score double figures. Wade Gleeson was out LBW for a golden duck on a hat-trick ball. You can't win them all.

New Norfolk II suffered a 243-run loss to Hobart at Tynwald Park. The visitors won the toss and had first hit, knocking up the big total of 5 for 314 of 50 overs. Captain Josh Walsh tried hard for his team and finished with 3-57 from his 10 overs. Walsh had bowled Hobart's opener J. White for two runs, but the bails failed to come off and White went onto make 123. Nathan Rice 1-33 (6) and Brad Kemmler 1-35 (10) were the other wicket takers. Well done to Cody Morgan-Coleman and L. Dootson for bowling their first overs in senior cricket. In reply to the huge total, New Norfolk was bowled out for 71. Brad Kemmler top-scored with 19 while Nathan Rice again showed good signs remaining 11 not out. With nine players under the age of 21 in the team and four under the age of 14, this team showed great fight and spirit and has a very bright future ahead.

Playing some great cricket of late, Molesworth II made it three wins on the trot by defeating Derwent by five wickets at Boyer Oval. Derwent had first knock, making 10 for 110 off 38.5 overs. This small total was due to the excellent bowling by all the Molesworth bowlers, in particular captain Brayden Hodge 4-26 (10) and Azza Triffitt 3-34 (10). The pair skittled the Derwent batsmen with little fuss. Chris Slater also did well with 1-15 from six while the other two wickets were runouts to keeper Tyson Gray and Jack Evans. In reply Molesworth finished 5 for 113 off 30.4 overs. Jye County top-scored with 32. Jacksyn Mann also did well with 24, while Jack Evans made 10. With this win and just three matches remaining before finals, Molesworth II looks to have all but sewn up a finals spot.

Water out at Norfolk North
SOME parts of New Norfolk North are presently without water or on a limited supply due to a burst water main. The affected area is around Southview Crescent.
TasWater crews are on site undertaking repairs. Anyone urgently needing water for health reasons can phone 136 992 for assistance.

Molesworth motorcyclist killed
A MOLESWORTH man lost his life in a motorcycle crash just south of Bothwell this morning.
"At approximately 11am this morning a fatal single motor cycle crash occurred on Hollow Tree Rd, just south of Bothwell," a police spokesman said.
"Police and Tas Ambulance Service attended and the 57-year-old male driver of the motorcycle from Molesworth was pronounced deceased at the scene," the spokesman said. "No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash."
Condolences to the family and friends of the rider.
MONDAY UPDATE: Police would like to hear from anyone who may have seen a blue 2004 Kawasaki motorbike which was travelling towards Bothwell around 11am yesterday. Contact police on 131 444.

"Police and Tas Ambulance Service attended and the 57-year-old male driver of the motorcycle from Molesworth was pronounced deceased at the scene," the spokesman said. "No other people or vehicles were involved in the crash."

Police investigators closed the bridge for a short time around 9.30am, leaving a trail of yellow markings indicating the direction in which a person suffering major bleeding appears to have been walking. No information has been released by the police at the time of writing.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted high to very high fire dangers in parts of Tasmania. The elevated temperatures will mean fire permits in Southern municipalities will not be issued on Saturday, February 7. Municipalities include: Brighton, Derwent Valley, Hobart, Sorell, Central Highlands , Glamorgan Spring Bay, Huon Valley, Southern Midlands, Clarence, Glenorchy, Kingborough and Tasman
TFS deputy chief officer Gavin Freeman said anyone with a fire on their property in the Southern municipalities must ensure the fire is completely extinguished today. "Hot weather is predicted for Saturday and even though we have experienced rainfall recently, finer bushfire fuels across the state are quickly drying. The East Coast, Midlands, Upper Derwent Valley and South East districts are all forecast to have Very High fire danger ratings. Bushfires will start easily and could very quickly develop into large fires that are difficult to control. People need to be ready to act, especially as the temperature and wind increase," Mr Freeman said.
"People heading off camping and bush walking over the weekend are asked to take their gas cooking equipment and avoid using open fires. There have been a number of fires in past years which have started as a result of campfires not being completely extinguished. These fires have resulted in significant damage to peoples property, the environment and endangered lives. People who light campfires must ensure the fire is never left unattended and they need to turn the coals over and use water to ensure the fire is completely extinguished before leaving it unattended," he said.
"If you are holidaying or a visitor to our state and are enjoying our wonderful natural bushland remember that Tasmania is one of the most bushfire prone areas in Australia. You should monitor the local radio stations or visit TFS website to keep up to date with any fire information that may be near you.
"With the very dry conditions in many areas, extra care must be taken when using machinery that emit sparks, such as mowers, slashers, grinders and other cutting tools, as this type of activity can start fires.
"Tasmanians living in and around the bush need to ensure they have an up-to-date Bushfire Survival Plan, and be prepared to implement that plan if required. Farewell Charlie Gilbert
THE life of the Derwent Valley's best known Salvation Army man will be commemorated at the funeral of Charles Henry Gilbert later this week. Always a familiar site with his collecting tin in High St and at the football, Charlie Gilbert died on Saturday, aged 86, after a lifetime of service to the Salvos. The funeral will be held at the Salvation Army church at 79 Hamilton Rd, New Norfolk, at 1pm this Friday, February 6.

THE New Norfolk Under 13s had good 59 run win over North Hobart when Youth League cricket resumed last Sunday. New Norfolk hit up the good score of 107 and bowled out the opposition for just 48. Coby Kemmler did very well with the bat making 23 not out, while Riley Higgins gave good support with 10 runs. Jordan George did extremely well with the ball, taking 2-3 off 3 overs, while Coby Jemmler 1-7 off 4 and Tatem Lovell 1-2 off 2 also did very well. Well done to the young Red Caps this was a great win. Spare a thought for Tegan Kemmler who was hit in the face with the cricket ball and ended up losing half a tooth and getting a very swollen lip. Let's hope all is OK now.
In the Gretna Under 13s v Lindisfarne match at the Glenora school oval, Lindisfarne had first hit and made the big total of 204 from its 25 overs and lost just two wickets along the way - both of which were run-outs. In reply Gretna hit up the good score off 7 for 106 from its 25 overs. Tyron Bailey batted extremely well to make 41 hitting 7x4s. Tyler Scanlon also did well making 16 while Brodie Scanlon remained 7 not out. A great match all round with over 300 runs made between the two teams.
In the match between New Norfolk Under 15s and New Town, New Norfolk had first hit and made 116. Jye Bearman again batted well for 31 not out and Nathan Rice who has been doing well in fourth grade in the SCA made 21. In reply New Town lost five wickets chasing down the Red Caps total. Cody Morgan bowled well and finished with the excellent figures of 2 for 16 off 8 overs. Nathan Rice capped off a great game finishing with 2 for 12 off 6 overs.
In the match at the Glenora school ground, Gretna Under 15s had a good four-wicket win over St Anne's. The visitors made 108 before being bowled out in the 35 over. Craig Cunningham made 37 while Corey Ransley also chipped in with 33 (4x4s). In reply St Aidan's was bowled out for 192 after 43 overs. Craig Cunningham again got amongst the wickets, bagging 5-29 from 10 overs while Aaron Maddox took 3-56 from his 10. Congratulations to Mathew Burns who has now racked 350 club matches for Gretna. Burns has now played the third most matches at the club since 1977/78, ahead of him is Anthony Jarvis on 357 and Mathew's uncle Joey Hack on 397. One team that has left nothing behind is Bushy Park which again on Saturday showed it is a team on the march. Hosting the Weily Park Rockers, Bushy Park lost the toss and was sent into bat, making the very big score of 6 for 294 from 50 overs. Captain Troy "Wizard" Smith only just missed out on a century, making a fine 97 well supported by Dylan Grant who hit 67. The pair put on an excellent 159-run partnership. Nathan and Trent Grant both made 25 while wicket keeper Geoff Crosswell made 20. In reply Weily Park was all out for 155 off 48.4 overs. Young Blake Howlett continues to impress and did very well claiming 4-28 off 5.4 overs. Trent Grant also bowled well taking 3-23 off 9. Brother Nathan Grant wasn't far behind with 2-17 off 10 overs while Troy Smith picked up one wicket finishing 1-18 from 10. This weekend sees Bushy Park take on ladder leaders Derwent at New Town. If the Park boys can get another win they will take top spot.
In the other third grade match, Gretna II kept its finals chances alive with a big 103 run win over St Anne's at Cadburys 1. Winning the toss and batting, Gretna hit up the good score of 6 for 223 off its 50 overs. The ever-reliable Brian Smith top-scored with 76 including ten well-struck 4s. Todd Jarvis showed great patience with 38 (4x4s and 1x6) while Brock Nichols remained 35 not out (4x4s). In reply St Anne's was bundled out for 120 off 35.3 overs. The wickets were shared around with Luke Crosswell the best with 2-21 off 9.3 overs.

For the Red Caps, Zane Nossiter bowled very well taking 6 for 19 off 7.3 overs while with the bat the visitors only had two contributors in Stephen Nichols who batted very well making 53 (5x4s and 1x6). Nichols took an absolute screamer of a catch in gully earlier and was well supported by Trent Mayne's 23 runs, the pair putting on 72 for the seventh wicket. This was a brave effort by this pair considering no other batsman reached double figures and there were five ducks. Well done.

In fifth grade, Molesworth II kept its finals hopes alive with an 89-run win over McRobies Gully at Boyer Oval. Having first hit, the home side made the good score of 10 for 192 off 41.2 overs. Aaron Triffitt top-scored with 35 not out, while Jye County was next best with 32 (3x4s) and Brad Ransley made 29 (2x4s, 1x6). Martyn Evans chipped in with 27. In reply the visitors were bowled out for 103 off 29.4 overs. Of the six Molesworth bowlers used, each took at least one wicket each. Jye County, Martyn Evans, Brad Ransley and Josh Bomford all claimed two each. This young Molesworth team is really starting to gel at the right time and will be hard to beat in the coming weeks.

Lovell to lead the Eagles board
THE New Norfolk District Football Club elected a new leadership team at its annual general meeting last Friday night. Retiring president Adrian Graham did not seek re-election after his two years at the helm.
The club awarded playing life memberships to Jon Murray, Josh Clifford, Luke Browning and Bradley Chaplin and a honorary life membership to David Banks.

Vacancy at the House
Located in Willow Court at New Norfolk, the Derwent Valley Community House provides a range of activities, training, classes and programs as well as leading wider community programs such as the Community Garden, Drive Time, Tree2Sea Boat Building project, Thriving Communities - Healthy Families Outreach program and Eating with Friends.
The co-ordinator position is for 32 hours per week, reporting to the chairman and management committee of Derwent Valley Community House Inc.
