A COMMUNITY open day will be held at the Willow Court historic site this Saturday to enable the public to learn more about the archaeology field school presently under way.

A small group of archaeology students from around Australia is at the half-way mark of this summer's field school at Willow Court, which is the fourth held since 2014.

Associate Professor Heather Burke of Flinders University said the open day would be from 10am to 4pm this Saturday (February 17). The students' archaeological work will be on display and tours will be available.

Entry is free and visitors should look for the marquee on the lawn in front of the barracks building at Willow Court (enter via the gates off The Avenue at the Agrarian Kitchen Eatery), for directions to points of interest.

"We’ll have a display of clothing and other ephemera found underneath the Ladies Cottage and will explain the past two years of archaeological work on the site," Associate Professor Burke said.

In related activities earlier this week, history teachers conducted their own dig at Frescati House in the Willow Court grounds to continue last year's search for traces of an outbuilding. Early results of this survey were shared with the field school students on Sunday.
