New Norfolk continues great start

Round 1 results

NEW Norfolk I continued its flying start to the First Grade season with a big nine-wicket win over Rokeby at Tynwald Park on Saturday. The win came with some excellent bowling from the Red Caps, in particular 18-year-old opener Jye Lester who played his first 50-over match for his new club and bowled superbly, capturing 5-21 from six overs. In his first spell Lester took 1-19 off four overs, then in his second took 4-1 off two overs. In great support, Jordan Willoughby was just as impressive finishing with the excellent figures of 4-8 from five overs. Jason Rigby took 1-21 from five overs. There were five ducks. The Rokeby batsmen had no answers for the pair and finished all out for 139 from 39 overs, losing their last six wickets for just one run. In reply, New Norfolk cruised to victory finishing 1-143 from 24.3 overs. Openers Seb Wishart (75 not out from 79 balls) and Jordan Willoughby (57 from 65 balls) put on a 121-run partnership.

Second Grade
AFTER being in trouble early, Gretna defeated Sorell by 42 runs at home. Having first hit, Gretna I were in a spot of bother at 9-109 , but Corey Ransley held things together in a matchsaving effort with young Sam Booth. Ransley belted 80 runs, hitting five fours and seven sixes. Booth, on 10 not out, held his nerve very well to help Gretna to a competitive total of 189 from 43.3 overs. Other run makers were Ben Rainbird with 28, Zac Crosswell 15 and Brian Smith 14. In reply, Sorell was all out for 147 off 38.2 overs. Sam Booth continued his impact taking 3-30 (6). Mathew Burns took 2-29 (6) and Zac Crosswell 2-30 (8). After his big knock, Corey Ransley took 1-22 (7) while spinner Craig Cunningham did well with 1-24 (10) and Trent Grant 1-6 (1.2).

The other match between Molesworth I and Marquis at Ogilvie High School was abandoned due to rain. Before the rain Molesworth as 4-148 from 27 overs. Daniel Coppleman made 63 (11 fours) and Jamie Adams was 26no (3 fours).

Third Grade
THE match between New Norfolk II and Sandford at Wentworth Park was abandoned due to rain. The game got a start and the Red Caps were 2-79 off 23 overs before the heavens opened up. Leigh Berry made 23, Jake King 21 not out and Stewart Rice 17no.

Fourth Grade
BOTHWELL I went down to Wellington at Eady St by nine wickets. Batting first, the Bucks were all out for 118 from 37.2 overs. Nathan White did well, top scoring with 41. Opener Simon Eyles made 23 and Darren Hawes 14 not out. Wellington finished 1-120 from 22.3 overs. Nathan White got 1-26 (6).

In the other match at Gretna , the home side was belted by 214 runs. Winning the toss and batting, St Aidans made the very good score of 8-239 from its 50 overs. Pat Brosnan 3-40 (10) and Aaron Maddox 2-15 (10) were the pick of the bowlers while Wade Gleeson 1-27 (5), Tom Wright 1-37 (5) and Jake Campbell 1-56 (10) were the other wicket takers. In reply, Gretna had no answers and was bowled out for a paltry 25 off 15.3 overs. At one point, Gretna were 2-19 before the wheels fell off,
losing eight wickets for just six runs. Aaron Maddox made eight runs to be the best of the batsmen. There were five ducks.

Fifth Grade
BUSHY Park had a good fivewicket win over New Norfolk III at the Bushy Park Showground.
Wining the toss, the home side sent the Red Caps in who were all out for 137 (39.4 overs). Craig Dale kept things together with a well compiled 69 not out, hitting nine fours and two sixes. Steven
Sillifiant made 24 (two fours) and Coby Kemmler 13. There were five ducks. Geoff Crosswell was the main wicket taker, bowling very well with 3-19 (4.4) Nick Fenton was just as good taking 3-34 (7) while opener Mitch Crosswell did well taking 2-39 (10). Aaron Newbon 1-11 (2) and Jack Evans 1-29 (6) were the other wicket takers. In reply Bushy Park got the win, finishing with 5-138 from 28.3 overs. Opener Crosswell took off where he left with the ball and top-scored with 39 runs. Mitch Crosswell made 23, Jasper Gerhard Marais 17 and Shaun Fenton 16. Of the New Norfolk bowlers, opener Brad Kemmler took 2-44 (10), Nathan Heron 2-35 (6) and Craig Dale 1-25 (6.3).

Seventh Grade

BOTHWELL II had a very good day, defeating St Aidans by 105 runs at Cambridge. Having first dig, the Bucks hit up the great score of 8-232 off their 40 overs. In just his second career match, Ashley Browning batted superbly, top scoring with a fine 73. Opener and captain Anthony White mate 40. Brodie White got 28, Adam Clark 22 and Michael White 16. Playing a man short, the home side finished with 9-127 off 35.4 overs. Opening bowler Tyler White was very tight with 2-12 (5). Brodie White took 2-24 (8) and Jorden Conley 2-27 . There was one run out. 

In the other match, Molesworth II went down to Montagu Bay by 70 runs at Boyer Oval. The visitors had first hit, making 7-165 off their 40 overs. In reply Molesworth was bowled out for 95 off 19.2 overs. No other details were available.
