A GREAT time was had at the Derwent Valley Concert Band's annual HopFest on Saturday night, with about 100 people in attendance at the New Norfolk War Memorial Hall.
The night celebrated the music of the 1920s-40s, played and sung by members of the band with great enthusiasm. Photos and a video from the night can be seen here.
Paul Beresford reports: Saturday was certainly not "The loneliest night of the week"
at the New Norfolk War Memorial Hall where Jewel and myself plus about
150 others enjoyed a "Big Band Boogie 1920s-40s style" evening.
Music by members of the Derwent Valley Concert Band and visiting musicians and singers kept everyone tapping
their toes and dancing till late in the night. Lessons were given in the Charleston and other dance styles and the happy crowd
enjoyed great canapes followed by a selection of hot main courses
and a wonderful variety of desserts. Yours truly got into trouble
from Jewel because I spilled my bread and better pudding down the
front of my dinner shirt!
Thanks to the members of the Derwent Valley Concert Band for the
fantastic efforts that went into making this a great night out in
the valley.
