Round 2 Preview
ROUND 1 certainly provided its share of upsets and Round 2 may prove no different whilst Brighton and Claremont host their second home game in a row, the dusters will be out at Pembroke Park, Shark Park and Anzac Park as Sorell, Dodges Ferry and Lindisfarne all host their first home games of the season.
After near perfect conditions for Round 1 during day and night heavy rain early in the week and further forecast showers may see players having to adapt to significantly different conditions in Round 2.
If you had asked a fellow football follower last week who would be in the top four in the Senior competition I wonder who would have picked a top four of Huonville, East Coast Bombers, Cygnet and Claremont? Needless to say that last year’s Grand Finalists New Norfolk and Lindisfarne would be in the bottom half of the ladder.
It’s great to see a really even and balanced competition and it makes all football club members and supporters eager for Round 2 to get under way.
Brighton v New Norfolk at Pontville at 2pm today
The Brighton Robins will front up at their home ground again this weekend and after dropping their first game against East Coast Bombers, the supporters will expect a much improved performance. However, the task gets no easier against reigning premier New Norfolk.Coach Jamie Ling will need to draw on Claremont’s first up victory over the Eagles and give his players the confidence that they can compete with a list full of star players from the Valley.
Keep an eye on Nathan Ross who bagged 4 on return to the Eagles and watch out for 2012 leading goal kicker and William Leitch medalist Michael Thompson who will be hungry for a big haul. It’s expected that the Eagles will be too strong and register their first win for the season
