Public invite to science expo tomorrow

TALENTED local children will take centre stage at tomorrow's inaugural Derwent Valley Science Expo. Student-led interactive science displays and entries in the Young Archie competition will be among the exhibits at the New Norfolk High School.

The themes for the expo are environment and nature, space and astronomy, and innovation and technology. Peter Underwood Centre aspirations project officer Stuart Thorn said the expo was a significant event on the Bigger Horizons project calendar.

“The Derwent Valley Council secured funding from the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal to employ people to deliver information and hands-on activities to interested schools, and a Hydro Tasmania Community Engagement Grant has helped to stage the Expo,” Mr Thorn said.

“University of Tasmanian STEM Outreach representatives and Young Tassie Scientists will be involved, and visual artist Antonia Aitken will be presenting awards for outstanding Young Archie entries. Each school will receive a Merit Award for a Science Investigation display, and Derwent Valley Mayor Martyn Evans will present two Regional Merit Awards.”

The doors will be thrown open to the public to attend the expo from 3-6pm tomorrow (Wednesday) at New Norfolk High School, 101 Blair St.

    Good post about the expo. The expo was great and well attended by approximately 80 members of the public from 4pm-6pm.
