Junior and senior cricket washed out

WITH continuous rain Friday and Sunday all Southern Cricket Association Round 5 matches were cancelled. So let's take a look at the ladders heading into the Christmas break, and talk about club news and coming events.

Club news
The Molesworth Cricket Club has appointed Khan Stokes as its coach for this season and 2018-19. Stokes, who previously played for the Forest-Stanley Cricket Club in the North-West, has plenty of experience. He captained Forest-Stanley to the A Grade premiership in 2009, was captain of the B Grade team for several seasons, and made many representative sides. The new coach, who moved to Hobart two years ago, will be a big boost for Molesworth.

Christmas parties
The New Norfolk Cricket Club Christmas Party will be held at Tynwald Park on December 17 from 10am to 4pm. A life members versus current players T20 match will kick things off at 10am, followed by traditional Christmas lunch. There will be a jumping castle, face painting and a visit from Santa. All sponsors, players, supporters, family and friends are welcome.

Gretna Cricket Club will hold its Christmas party at the Gretna War Memorial Oval on December 16 from 4pm. There will be a jumping castle for the kids, Santa will be making a special visit and the annual raffle will be drawn. A barbecue will be provided and refreshments will be available at bar prices. If you would like your child to receive a present from Santa, please bring a wrapped gift worth no more than $20 and drop it off at the canteen. All players, sponsors, supporters, family and friends are welcome.

Bothwell Cricket Club will hold its Christmas party at the Bothwell Recreation Ground this Saturday from 4pm. There will be a barbecue and a visit from Santa, and the Fifty Club and Christmas raffles will be drawn. All are welcome.

Junior League
Wet weather meant all Round 7 Junior League matches were cancelled. After two weekends without cricket, the kids will be extra keen to play this weekend. Congratulations to Gretna Under 15s player Jacob Blackwell for being awarded the Hurricanes Junior League Player of Round 5. Jacob received a $50 gift voucher from the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre. Well done, Jacob!
