Julie Triffett |
A spill of all elected positions on the Derwent Valley Council will occur next October with eight councillors to be elected, including the positions of mayor and deputy mayor. Mayor Martyn Evans has indicated he will not be seeking re-election.
Cr Triffett was first elected to council in 2009 and with 284 primary votes was the third most popular candidate behind Cr Evans (722 votes) and Cr Paul Belcher (396) who has also declared his candidacy for mayor.
Cr Triffett worked for many years at Royal Derwent Hospital/Willow Court Centre before establishing the Derwent Valley Council's day respite centre, Glengrey House. This service, the frail, elderly, and younger people with disabilities, was transferred to a private provider this year.
Cr Triffett announced her intentions following a councillor workshop this week but said she would not immediately be distributing campaign material.
All prospective Derwent Valley Council election candidates are welcome to send a profile and photo to the New Norfolk News.
