Libs promise Glenora Rd upgrade if re-elected

GLENORA RD will be upgraded as part of a $72 million tourist roads package announced by the State Government today. Premier Will Hodgman and Infrastructure Minister Rene Hidding said a re-elected Liberal Government would take tourism in Tasmania to the next level with the single biggest investment in road infrastructure to support the visitor economy.

Locally, $2.5 million would be allocated to improve Glenora Rd for visitors and locals alike, including improvements to the surface quality, road edging and drainage. Promotional material released today says the road between New Norfolk and Bushy Park has had a major increase in traffic volume in response to the growing popularity of the Mt  Field National Park area, and is also a key access for primary producers in the region.

Officially a council road, Glenora Rd has been the subject of discussions between the Derwent Valley Council and the State Government. The council has asked the state to take ownership, pointing out that government-owned signs in New Norfolk direct traffic to Mt Field via Glenora Rd rather than the Lyell Highway.
