Locals win league awards

Charlie Lovell
TWO New Norfolk Junior Football Club players made their mark this season by taking out best and fairest awards for their age groups in the Southern Tasmanian Junior Football League.

Charlie Lovell had a stellar season as a midfielder and vice captain of the New Norfolk Under 17s. After finishing fourth in the same award last season, Lovell took out this year's league Under 17 girls best and fairest award with 26 votes. This was three votes clear of A. Clark of Claremont and 13 ahead of H. Baldwin of the Kingborough Tigers. Lovell has been a fine leader for her team and was named one of the best players in last Sunday's grand final win over Kingborough.

Bailey Wheeler
Bailey Wheeler is the other champ in the making. He took out the Under 14C best and fairest award by five votes from Jackson Roberts of the Central Hawks. The ever-improving midfielder has had a number of people talking about his ability this season, which has stemmed from last season when he made the state Under 12s team. What's more, Wheeler plays a year above his age which says a lot in these early years. He finished runner-up in the NNJFC Under 12s best and fairest last season.

Well done Charlie and Bailey, it’s a very fine achievement by you both. Congratulations from all at the NNJFC.

Congrautlations also to NNJFC president and life member Chris Lovell who was made a life member of the STJFL at the league awards night. Lovell has been a tireless contributor to both the STJFL and NNJFC over many years. Congratulations Chris, this honour is very much deserved.
