MyState Bank to leave New Norfolk

The present MyState New Norfolk branch at the time of its
opening in 2008. It had previously been at other locations.

THERE will be just one banking chamber left in New Norfolk by the end of this year, following the announcement that MyState Bank will close its local branch.

In a letter to customers, the bank says it will close its doors in the Derwent Valley on November 7 and will remove its ATM in January.

This will leave the Commonwealth Bank as the last bank in New Norfolk, although some banking transactions can also be done at the Post Office.

MyState head of retail, Ana Zardo-Cox said the decision to close the branch had not been made lightly. "In fact, we deliberately and thoughtfully considered a number of factors such as usage, location, proximity to other services and the needs of the New Norfolk community," Ms Zardo-Cox said.

"In recent years, we have seen a decline in transactions at the New Norfolk branch. This decline, in large, can be attributed to an increasing number of customers in the area choosing the convenience of our online and mobile banking services, as well as using services such as Bank@Post."

Ms Zardo-Cox said customers would be able to bank at any other MyState branch. "The Glenorchy branch is a full-service branch offering customers access to a range of services such as home finance, personal lending and banking specialists."

She said MyState customers were also able to conduct simple transactions such as deposits and withdrawals at Australia Post outlets using a MyState Visa debit card.
