Glenfern/Lachlan bushfire under control

RAINY conditions brought relief for the fire crews battling the Glenfern bushfire and several others across the state yesterday. Firefighters continued to work throughout the day to contain the fires which at times were rated at emergency level earlier in the week.

There are now no fires at alert level. "Weather conditions continue to remain low across the state, with some light rain falling on most of our fires," incident controller Mark Dobson said yesterday.

"Given these conditions, the fires across the state have remained calm. Fire crews have been working to strengthen containment lines and plan for future back burning operations," he said.

"Tree falling works have commenced at the Glenfern Rd fire to make the area safe for residents. Given the current weather conditions, the Dennistoun Rd and Bluff Rd fires are being controlled and the alert levels have been removed."

Mr Dobson said the Tasmania Fire Service thanked the community for playing its part in keeping any new incidents to a minimum. "We have a shared responsibility for minimising fires in the landscape, and the community has listened to our warnings."
