The New Norfolk bowlers were again on target. Maddox took 4 for 32 off his 10 overs while Ashley Morgan claimed 3 for 29. Josh Dykes picked up 2 and Stewart Rice capped off the day taking 1. This is a huge win for the Red Caps who are in some excellent form and I notice that Mathew Smith had a run in the team. If he can produce the great cricket that he is capable of, then New Norfolk will be even harder to beat.
New Norfolk II capped off a great weekend on Sunday with a 9-wicket win over Molesworth II at Boyer Oval. The win was mainly due to the superb bowling of Josh Walsh who took 6 for 45. Walsh skittled through the Molesworth batsmen who were dismissed for 111. New player Chris Pearce picked up two wickets while up-and-comer Mitchell Rice took 2 for 24. Of the Molesworth openers, Dean King did well making 34, while Mathew Hay again did well for his team with 28. In reply New Norfolk II had little trouble reaching the target, losing just the one wicket. David Maddox scored 56 while Leigh Berry remained 25 not out as did wicket-keeper and opening batsman Dylan Pearce with 23no.
Bushy Park sure are making a habit of keeping the opposition to very low score of late. This time they cleaned up McRobies Gully for just 52 runs. The Bushy bowling attack sure have been on fire. The Grant brothers Trent and Dylan were very miserly, with Trent taking 3 for 9 and Dylan 3 for 10. Mitch Crosswell was just as good with 2 for 9 and Troy Smith who has slipped back into the team well after about five years off took 2 for 21. In reply Bushy had no trouble in scoring the runs finishing 1 for 55 off just 6.1 overs. Mitchell Crosswell made 26no and Geoff Crosswell made 16no.
Molesworth I had the closest match of the weekend when they tied with Richmond/Cambridge at Richmond. The home team won the toss and elected to bat, making the modest total of 10 for 167 with brothers Daniel and Brad Coppleman being the main wicket takers with three each. In reply Molesworth made 9 for 167 off their 50 overs. In the dying stages they were 9 for 145 with still 22 needed. New player Aaron Triffitt and Ricky Neads batted well together to give the team a chance of victory, but it wasn't to be. Following last week's report I have been informed that it is just Molesworth's junior teams that are called the Stars.
In the other second grade match, Gretna I easily accounted for the Montagu Bay Sharks at Geilston Bay on Saturday with a six wicket win. The Sharks won the toss and elected to bat, making 10 for 152. The opening bowlers for Gretna, Corey Ransley and Aaron Maddox, did well picking up three wickets each. In reply Gretna took little time in accounting for the runs, finishing 4 for 153 off just 20.3 overs. Mathew Burns has batted well for his team so far this season and made 77. His innings includes eight 4s and three 6s. Glenn Blackwell made a quickfire 55 not out. He hit eight 4s in his time at the crease and also got three catches for the day in his usual role as keeper. Jackson Ackerly also made quick work of it, scoring 12no with two 6s.
Gretna II suffered their first loss since round two, easily beaten by 210 runs by Hobart at Risdon Vale. Hobart won the toss and batted first, hitting up the big score of 9 for 326. Adam Browning was the main wicket taker for Gretna with three while captain Todd Jarvis and Josh Farrow got two each. In reply Gretna was never in the hunt, bowled out for 116. Nick Wakefield made 35 while young Josh Farrow made 24 including two 4s. Brad Prentice made 16 and Jordan Hastie 10. It was great to see Josh Farrow and Nathan Eyles play their first senior matches. Josh is a fourth generation player at Gretna and did really well with both bat and ball and also got a run out. Nathan made the first 100 for the Gretna juniors a few weeks back and has a lot of talent. His Dad and brother both play with Gretna II.
