NEW Norfolk I recorded their first win of the season by defeating Richmond/Cambridge by 111 runs at Richmond on Saturday. The win was a pleasing one for New Norfolk with a number of players contributing in both batting and bowling. Openers Jake King (51 runs) and Dave Maddox (82 runs) put on a 106 run partnership. After three wickets fell with no runs added to the score, veteran Stewart Rice who just gets better with age made a terrific 75 runs. He shared a 104 run partnership with Maddox to help set up a score of 10 for 250. In reply Richmond/Cambridge were bowled out for 139, unable to handle New Norfolk opening bowlers Graeme and Josh Rowlands. Graeme used his many years of experience to finish with fine figures of 4-26 while nephew Josh did likewise with 3 for 17. Josh Dykes bowled very tidily with 1-28 while Josh Walsh also took a wicket.

After last week's thrashing, Gretna I turned things around with a 25-run win over Bagdad at Gretna. The home team won the toss and after electing to bat hit up the good total of 8-201 off their allotted 50 overs. Last week's 300 gamer Mathew Burns made 59 while young up and comer Jackson Ackerly made a valuable 33 as did the in-form Damien Hack with 32 in his 200th club game. Cameron Emery remained 19 not out. In reply Bagdad was bowled out for 176 in the 49th over. Mathew Burns capped off a good day's work taking two wickets. Corey Ransley also took two wickets and by all reports did a great job as stand in captain while Ben Rainbird rests a hamstring injury. In his second game for the season, Peter Jelkic bowled  1-24 off 10. Craig Cunningham bowling spinners took 1 for 33 from his 10 overs while Cameron Emery and Adam Browning also took one wicket each.   

New Norfolk II recorded their first win of the season, defeating Sorell by 45 runs at Sorell. The home team won the toss and sent New Norfolk into bat. Ashley Morgan made a great score of 79 for the visitors and when New Norfolk were 6-88 he put on a 74 run stand with T. Hanson (15no) to get the score to a competitive total of 8-173 of their 50 overs. Dylan Pearce did well and made 24 as an opening batsman. In reply Sorell were bowled out for 128, unable to handle the superb bowling of youngster Mitchell Rice who took 5-41 off his 10 overs. Mitchell is the son of New Norfolk I player Stewart Rice. He is certainly following in his father's footsteps and it wont be long until he is making some big scores with the bat as well. Ashley Morgan finished off a great day taking 2-20 of 10 overs, while Mark Thurston and L. Lewis took a wicket each.

At Tynwald Park on Saturday, Gretna II got back on the winners list by defeating St Aidan's by four wickets. St Aidan's won the toss and had first hit making 10-178. New player and former Ouse cricketer Joey Eyles bowled very well to take 3 for 38 off his 10 overs. Returning to cricket after not playing since 2007-08, his experience will be very handy to the club. Ever-reliable Darren Lennox took 2 for 32 from 10 overs as did Larry Menzie and Nick Wakefield who also captured two wickets each while Cody Eyles, son of Joey Eyles, bowled really well as the other opening bowler, finishing with very tidy figures of 1-21 off his 10 overs. In reply Gretna reached St Aidan's total, making 6-180 off 37 overs. Stand-in captain Nick Wakefield led from the front making an excellent 73 - a great effort as it was his first time as captain. Evergreen Brian Smith made a valuable 27 not out while Ben Shaw and Joey Eyles chipped in with 16 and 14no respectively.

After two wins in a row, Molesworth I suffered a seven-wicket loss to the 2nd Grade pace-setters Rokeby Wanderers. Winning the toss and batting, Molesworth were bowled out cheaply for 90 runs in the 26th over. Daniel Coppleman top-scored with 22 runs, while opening batsman Ben Eyles made 17 and was the other top run scorer. In reply the home team made 3-94 in 19.2 overs to run away easy winners. Brad Kemmler took two wickets while M.Siely took the only other Rokeby wicket.

Molesworth II travelled to Risdon Vale where they went down to the home team by eight wickets. Molesworth had first hit and was bowled out for 124. Batting at number seven, Mathew Hay made a valuable 47 not out (five 4s), well backed up by young Jye County who made an excellent 43. In reply Risdon Vale were never trouble and reached Molesworth's total in 17 overs.

In a close match at the Bushy Park Showgrounds, Bushy Park lost their 4th Grade match to the MacKillop Beltas by three wickets. Bushy won the toss and had first hit making 10-174. Shaun Fenton 26 and Nick Fenton 14 got their team off to a good start with a 44-run opening patenership, but the wicket of Nick Fenton saw two more fall with no addition to the score. Mitchell Crosswell 37 and Geoff Crosswell 43 steadyed things putting on 49 runs together. Troy Smith who has returned to the club and made 18 adding 42 with Geoff Crosswell to take the score to 6 for 150, but from here the team lost its last four wickets for 24 runs. In reply the Beltas were in big trouble early losing their first five wickets for just 33 runs. This collapse was due to the excellent bowling of Nathan Grant who cleaned up the top order, taking 4 for 16. From here the Beltas steadied the ship putting on a 107 run partnership to lift the score to 5 for 140 then finishing 7 for 177 with 2.5 overs remaining. Bushy Park have been very close to a win in the first three weeks and a victory is just around the corner.
