New Norfolk Christmas Parade

HUNDREDS turned out to watch the New Norfolk Christmas Parade earlier today. Held in brilliant sunshine, the annual pageant had a terrific range of entries and each run of High St took about 20 minutes.

The event concluded with Santa Claus riding along High St in the Lions Club train while the Derwent Scottish Pipe Band performed outside the post office.

After the event, parade organiser Ngaire Glover announced the winners of a raffle conducted in aid of college student Leah Kelly's upcoming scholarship trip to the Los Angeles. The winners were Sandra Pullen (first) and Tracey Malone (second).

Deputy mayor Barry Lathey announced the following Derwent Dollar winners after the parade:
  • Best emergency services presentation: New Norfolk Fire Brigade
  • Best community group - New Norfolk Cub Scout Group and Lions Club Christmas Carol Train (equal winners)
  • Best community business group: Child and Family Centre
  • Best business presentation: New Norfolk Guardian Pharmacy
  • Best community activity: Derwent Valley Dance Company
  • Best school Group: Combined Schools of the Upper Derwent Valley
  • Best Overall (best expression of the theme of the parade - Peace Across the World): Combined Churches Community Leaders Group
