SFL Round 5 Report
Provided by SFL League Management
AFTER a strong start by both teams in Saturday's contest between New Norfolk and Brighton, the Eagles came out on top and proved they are starting to get their season back on track.
Brighton finished the first quarter with an eight-point lead over the Eagles but this did not last long as New Norfolk fought back in the second quarter and then remained in front for the rest of the game.
Callen Daly opened the second quarter with a goal two minutes in, but that’s when New Norfolk came back and scored five in a row to claim the lead. Once the Eagles got ahead, there was no slowing them and they extended their lead right through until the final siren and won by 51 points.
This was New Norfolk's first win of the season and it took them off the bottom of the ladder. There were several notable players for New Norfolk with seven players sharing the Eagles' 14 goals. Clinton Curtain was the major target up forward, kicking four majors. For the Robins, Zak Bird stood out kicking two goals and Dylan Grant was named best player.
The Robins prevailed in both the Reserves and the Under 18s, with New Norfolk suffering a huge loss in the Reserves by 95 points and a 45 points loss in the Colts.
