Men’s One Day matches
Round 12
February 9-10
ROUND 12 of the KSCA was played on the weekend and although rain interrupted some matches, only one was washed out.
One player bagged seven wickets and some teams played short, while others had wins with very low scores.
A group of Gretna I players made good use of the down time during the rain interruption at Richmond on Saturday, retiring to the dressing rooms for a game of euchre.
FIRST GRADE
In the battle for second place on the ladder, New Norfolk I pounced on the opportunity with an excellent six-wicket win over Wellington at Eady St. After the home side made the good score of 7/233 from its 50 overs, the Red Caps chased down the target, finishing 4/236 from 46.5 overs in a superb batting display. When the first wicket fell - Jordan Willoughby for 26 - fellow opener Rohan Heron 54 and Matthew Bowden 60 steadied the ship, putting on a match-winning 120-run stand to set up the innings. Seb Wishart 30 and Jordan Banks-Smith 46 not out, kept things going with a 50-run stand. Earlier with the ball, Captain Jason Rigby was the best of the bowlers taking 3-34 from his 10 overs. Richard Graham 1-28 (8) and Jye Lester 1-35 (7) gave great support as did Jamie Maddox 1-22 (5) and Jordan Willoughby 1-27 (6). With two matches remaining, New Norfolk is well placed in the campaign for back-to-back flags.
SECOND GRADE
Molesworth I got back on the winners list, defeating Derwent at Boyer Oval by 104 runs. Batting first, the home side posted the very good total of 8/273 off 50 overs. Captain Brad Coppleman led from the front, making a fine 88. Daniel Coppleman made 57 and the brothers put on a 97-run stand. Keeper Brad Ransley made 36 and put on 59 with Michael Murray who made 23. Josh Ransley made 11 and Liam Triffitt remained 11 not out. In reply, Derwent, batting one short, finished 9/169 off 35.5 overs. Janie Adams was the stand-out with the ball, finishing with the good figures of 4-34 (10). Larry Menzie was also good taking 3-34 (6) and Daniel Coppleman 2-25 (4.5).

Thanks to a seven-wicket haul from paceman Josh Walsh, New Norfolk II easily defeated Campania by 144 runs at Tynwald Park and maintained its unbeaten status so far this season. With rain shortening the match to 42 overs, Campania, playing one short, was set the target of 198 for victory. With their openers putting on 32, things were going OK, but first-change bowler Josh Walsh ripped through the visitors attack like a wrecking ball, claiming the magical figures of 7 for 7 off 5.5 overs including three maidens. Walsh was at his scintillating best, bowling every batsman. At the other end, young Nathan Rice continued the pressure, taking 2-15 from five overs. Rice kept the trend going by bowling both his victims, and Campania was all out for 53 off 24.5 overs. Club president Jamie Hill stuck to his word and bought each player a beer after all batsman were bowled. Earlier with the bat, the Red Caps made 7/197 from 42 overs. Aaron Drew top-scored with a good 47 not out off just 28 balls. Cody Neads, who became a father of a lovely little girl last week, made 44. Captain Jake King got 36, Jye Bearman 31 from just 18 deliveries and Stewart Rice made 18.
FOURTH GRADE
Playing at home, Gretna II recorded its second win of the season when it defeated Claremont by six wickets on Sunday. Having first hit, the visitors made 10/111 off 44.4 overs. Opening the bowling, Zac Crosswell did very well snaring 3-27 from his 10 overs, as did young Jake Campbell who finished with the same figures. Spinner Pat Brosnan was very tight with 1-14 (10) as were Josh Whitford 1-20 (10) and Sam Booth 1-17 (4). In reply, Gretna got the job done, finishing 4/115 off 28.5 overs. Batting fifth, Tom Allcock made a return, top-scoring with 29 not out, including two fours and a six. Keeper Brian Smith made a handy 18, captain Jordan Hastie made 14, and Jake Campbell remained 9 not out.
At Risdon Vale, Bothwell I went down to Hobart by 25 runs. Batting first, Hobart made 10/199 off 48.5 overs. Of the Bucks bowlers, three batsmen took three wickets. Stuart Eyles 3-15 (5.5), Kelvin Eyles 3-23 (7) and Tyler White 3-39 (10) all did very well. There was one run-out by Joey Eyles. In reply, Bothwell tried hard with only 10 batsmen, but fell just short on 9/174 off 47.5 overs. Tyler White had a good day and top-scored with 36. Nathan Eyles made 30, Josh Eyles 27, Brock Nichols 23 and Joey Eyles 12.
FIFTH GRADE
In a low-scoring match, New Norfolk III recorded its fourth win of the season with an excellent 33-run victory over top-four side St Anne's at Tynwald Park. Batting first, the Red Caps were dismissed for 106 from 38.1 overs. Steve Sillifant top-scored with 27, while captain and opener Nathan Heron made 14 and Brad Kemmler 11. To win, the New Norfolk men had to bowl well, and bowl well they did, dismissing the Crows for just 73. Coming out of retirement, Graeme “Snowy” Rowlands answered the call, taking 3-18 from six overs. Spinner Nathan Heron gave his all, taking 3-26 (7) and Liam Kalbfell bowled 1-0 (1). There was one run-out and the home side pulled off an unlikely victory.
In another low-scoring affair, Bushy Park went down to Brighton by six wickets at Pontville. Having first dig, Bushy Park was bowled out for 98 off 31.2 overs. Opener Troy Smith top-scored with 24. Captain Mitchell Crosswell made 17, while Allan Van Luxembourg made 13 and Geoff Crosswell and Dylan Grant made 11 each. In reply, Brighton finished 4/101 off 31.4 overs. Dylan Grant bowled very well, taking 1-9 (6). Aaron Newbon 1-25 (6), Geoff Crosswell 1-11 (3) and Darren Crosswell 1-2 (0.4).
SEVENTH GRADE
At Lindisfarne, Molesworth II made it two wins in as many weeks when it defeated Montagu Bay by 71 runs. Molesworth batted first, making 10/175 off 36.2 overs. Opener Sam Percy showed his team-mates how it’s done, hitting up an impressive top score of 79 runs. At number 10, Jye County made a good cameo and remained 19 not out, while Anthony Murray made 15. There were 40 extras. In reply the Sharks were bowled out for 104 off 25 overs. All bowlers did their job. Captain Sam Triffett opened the bowling, taking 3-24 (8), while Daniel Williams bowled just the one over to snare 2-1. Shayne Upton took 2-23 (5) and Anthony Murray 2-39 (6). Sam Percy made the run out. The good win now puts Molesworth in third position.
In the match between Bothwell and St Aidan's at Bothwell, play got under way for much of the day, but was eventually washed-out. The Bucks had first hit, making 4-192 from 35 overs (reduced from 40). In reply St Aidan's was 1-45 when play was stopped. No other details were available.
