Successful Good Friday gathering

Part of the crowd at Arthur Square on Good Friday.
YESTERDAY'S open-air Good Friday service at New Norfolk's Arthur Square has been described as a great success.

Parishioners of local churches and members of the public heard from several speakers and sang songs with music provided by two guitarists.

Held at the fountain in the middle of the square, the short service followed separate gatherings in the individual churches of the town. Afterwards, a morning tea of hot drinks and hot cross buns was provided in the St Matthew's Anglican Church Hall.

Two guitarists accompanied the singing of hymns.
Good Friday commemorates the crucifixion of Jesus Christ at Calvary, just outside the city walls of Jerusalem. His resurrection is celebrated on Easter Sunday.

Participating denominations at yesterday's event included St Matthew's Anglican Church, St Paul's Uniting Church, the Salvation Army and the Kingsholme congregation from Ellendale, among others.
